    Argon's Activities

My mother once explained to me the difference between the odd numbers and the even numbers but I forgot. I think the odds might be for shorter waisted women but I am not sure. :help: Anyone else got any info?

    Dr. Phil House of Hatred

I can't see how this will help these people break down their barriers. It is just a ratings gimmick.
  3. I posted on this thread and I am a Canadian! That screws the stats up, eh. I woulda voted for John Kerry's wife if I could have voted. She looked liked she would have stirred things up. LOL

    medication VS weight gain

Some meds do cause you to gain weight. Ask your doctor if your medication is associated with weight gain.

    Molestation!!!!

I feel for you, jq. You and your childhood friend went through the same bad times as children and now he has been busted for one of the most heinous crimes possible and his lawyer wants you to stand up for him. He was, as many others have already suggested, undoubtedly molested as a child himself. It was this that damaged him. Poor guy. Nevertheless, the prognosis for curing these guys seems to be poor and even though he may have an explanation for his behaviour he shouldn't be inflicting this kind of pain, humiliation and long term damage on kids. Although I feel sorry for him I am inclined to think that he should be kept away from society because this will prevent him from hurting any more kids.

Your clothes sound great. I love Albert Nippon. The problem with us setting up a clothing exchange is that we all live so far apart. What a drag! None of my friends were as fat as me and so as I got fatter I was handing my clothes down the line. I was at the top of the food chain, unfortunately, and nobody was able to give me any good (or even bad) stuff.

how often do you weigh yourself?

I don't have a scale. I developed a phobia to the damn things when I was 25. The first time I weighed myself in recent memory was the morning of my operation. I knew I was fat because I was taking size large in all my clothes and the mirror doesn't lie. When I went back for my first fill they weighed me and I had lost 13 lbs. Yippee! I also had some NSVs. I am relying on the NSVs to tell me whether I have lost weight because I still hate getting on a scale. In a week's time I go back for my second fill. I don't know whether I will have lost any more weight. I don't feel any restriction yet though I am trying to watch what I eat. I do think that the scale can be tricky. Fat can be converted into muscle. You will weigh the same but take up less space and you will look better.

    Someone answer this????????

My clinic requires one week clear liquids, two weeks liquids, followed by two weeks of mushies. They are quite strict about this and I found that my stomach did shrink quite a bit during this period of time. Of course the light diet is so that your stomach can recover from the surgery. Anything else that happens during this period of time, such as weight loss, is a bonus. I used the time to practise eating differently. I lost 13 #. Some people lose more but I was pleased. You might want to try eating a very light diet, with very small portions but lots of snacks.

Oh, and as to the W sizes, I always think that the W means wide. I think it means that we are wider in the torso.

No, normal stores do not have W sizes. This type of sizing occurs when the store is catering to a number of different types of shopper. Winner's uses this sizing as does Cotton Ginny (although Cotton Ginny doesn't have P sizes). Some stores offer L sizes for tall women. Normal stores usually offer up to 16 or 18 max and then they might offer petite sizes for shorter women. This leaves people like us out in the cold.

Yah gotta take yer shoes off to get into skinny jeans. Sometimes they had zippers in the ankles. Of course, Teresita has a point.... lol

    A Canadian "NSV" Thread

Yah, tight pants wouldn't have stopped me from gaining weight but they would have made me hot and cranky!
  13. So much of the weight issue really is genetic, isn't it? Both my parents were slim but we had fatties in our family and some of us have inherited this problem. My niece is only 30 but she has been struggling with weight ever since she had her child. She is a big woman and she hates it. She is also a single mother, and is lonely. She feels marginalized by her size. She can't afford the operation at this time but is really curious about my experiences with the band. Both myself and my kid brother were chubby teenagers. We both managed to get this under control for awhile. My weight was manageable until I hit menopause and then I started to get fatter and fatter. My slender mother also ballooned up after menopause. The drugs that I am on for depression pretty much finished off the job. This band is a good thing.

    Argon's Activities

I think, if I remember right, size 16 is often the biggest size offered at many regular stores even though in theory the regular sizes are supposed to go up to 18. For overweight people they have sizes 14W and up to 18W and for those people who are shorter than "normal" they have the P sizes, as in 12P. Then there are the official fat sizes: 20 and up, and the Xs. One thing that I have always noticed is this: the more expensive the garment the more generously it is cut. Cheap clothes fit small. I have noticed this in shoes as well. I go up a size and half whenever the shoe is made in China. Because my feet are gigantic this is a disaster.

No, skinny jeans are ones where the legs are skinny and tapered in at the ankles, kind of like denim leggings. They used to be in during the '80s and now they are back but they are impossible to find unless you are skinny and prepared to pay big bucks for 'em. The style hasn't filtered down to the regular stores yet. They look great under boots because they don't bulge. You wear them with big sweaters and shirts. I used to get mine at Cotton Ginny and they had Spandex in them. I also had this great pair of black and white checked skinny Capris. Maybe they do have them at the Gap. I haven't been in there for years. Do they have size fat?

    A Canadian "NSV" Thread

Your mother has a point. I like to wear baggy clothes especially in the summer. My weight kept creeping up on me and then when I would try to put my jeans on...well, I couldn't.
  17. I told my family and my friends but my husband told people at work and my hairdresser! Hah! I was not amused by this. He is a lovely man but has never had an idea as to when it is best to keep one's mouth shut. My hairdresser, who is very slender, talked to my tenant about it. The hairdresser didn't get it. Fortunately my tenant is also a friend and already knew about the surgery - in fact she was the one who told me about it in the first place - told me that our hairdresser now knows. This would mean that the neighbourhood nows. Green's life is an open book. Oh well. There's nothing I can do about it now except lose weight....

    Divorce

Perhaps you should see your doc, explain about the problems you are having with sleeping, throwing-up, etc. He may be able to help you and certainly having these stress issues documented will help you legally. It sounds like a temporary restraining order may be in the cards.
  19. Green will give you Winner's hints: it is always good to visit more than one store if you can because they do have some stuff that is different at each store. The store at Bloor and Avenue Road, the so-called designer store, does not respect fat folks. *sniff* It does have nice handbags, though.:rolleyes Happy hunting...er...shopping and may your fill hit the sweet spot.

    Argon's Activities

Congrats to both Argon and Yoda on being obese! And, yep, it does sound funny saying that but we all know what we are talking about. And congrats, Argon, on your NSV with the pants. I think that the NSVs are so cool.
  21. PS: Wheezy, I love the photo.
  22. That is a very good anecdote. I think that most people who have the band have already tried dieting and found their weight going down and up again. Diet works for very few people. I tried exercise. It made me feel good but I was still fat. And while I was getting my fill I met a young and very large woman who had gone through Dr. Bernstein's Weight Loss Clinic. She had lost tons but regained it again. For many of us WLS is the only way. I might become kinda nasty with anyone who criticized me for making this choice. What about you?

    Canadian Diet Reco's.

I've been a lot more conscious of what I eat and I am eating way less carbs and cheese. The trouble is that I am down on my vegetables since they were a part of the carb and cheese fests. I used to like to stir fry vegies, add 'em to pasta and then load the mess up with cheese. I also used to like to load up a frozen pizza with fresh vegies and cheese. A lot of my fat is cheese flavoured! Now I am eating a lot of yogurt and tuna and soup. This is stuff I started eating during the mushy phase. I guess I am afraid that vegetables will get stuck.

    Divorce

When I knew that my ex-husband was playing around I immediately emptied out the joint bank account and opened up a new one in my name only. I was making the lion's share of the money anyway. He spent the next month watching all his cheques bouncing.

    Shopping!

Actually, there is one thing that I would like to buy. I would like to buy a pair of those new skinny jeans if I could find a pair in my (large) size. I wear a lot of big sweaters and big linen shirts and those skinny jeans would look great with them.
