I know that smokers can and do smell of smoke. When I was at boarding school I would sometimes be allowed to spend the weekends home with my family. My father smoked cigars. He would drive me in on a Monday morning and I would be mortified because I would become suddenly aware that I stank of cigars and bacon grease! I didn't smell it until I entered into that sterile environment of nuns and schoolgirls and general teenage unhappiness.

BJean: I know that your knees are giving you grief. What about water exercise? And did I suggest this to you before? I am not only ageing, I am also blonde, ya know....:phanvan

You state in your lengthy communique that "people put down the Bible, and blame all the problems they have created on God." In fact we do not, for those of us who are liberal-minded Christians blame individuals like yourself, the narrow-minded fundamentalists, not God, and those of us who are atheists wouldn't dream of blaming God, either, for we hold no belief at all that one exists. Indeed, for those of us - Christian and non-Christian alike - who do believe in the scientific findings which indicate that the Earth has been around for billions of years and that even mankind has a long history which predates the Bible, the 5000 years which you give us as its timeline doesn't seem all that impressive. Your opinions on homosexuality and abortion are simply that - your opinions - and other people will of course have theirs.

Right on! You have said it perfectly.

Well, I am prepared to curb my smoking around non-smokers but as for not smelling of smoke, that is a little too much to ask for. I wear expensive (and subtle) perfume and I put up with smelling folks doused with the cheap stuff. I also put up with folks smelling like last night's curry dinner, of second-hand garlic, and of an alcoholic's hangover. I also put up with screaming babies and shrieking tots. This is life as we live it when we live among other people. People are pretty interesting to be around and that is why I love living in the city but you do have to take the bad with the good. That's life.

Great (and even medicore) accessorizers - need your input

You know that we are all going to want to see photos, eh. :) -
Hey, far out! That is fantastic! That is so cool! Congrats from Green, eh.

But, Leatha, you know that folks aren't attacking people because they are elderly or pregnant or military, etc. And you must know that there are folks who are attacking other people because they like to beat up on "fags!" This attempt to add these other groups to this protected "class" was an attempt to dilute the power of this proposal and thus is deeply offensive.

Homosexual Liberal Atheists ~ What's UP with that?
green replied to paladin's topic in Rants & Raves
Yes, boys, the Green grrl is very much inclined to agree. My findings come about after years of working in a man's world and after doing a lot of reading on the subject. Of course, I kinda did have to park a little piece of my ego at the door.:phanvan (And by the way, synical chic sounds like a practical grrl. ) As for the Lear 45, my mate has been sent down to Witchita to work on this aircraft in the past and he is now once again working on the Lear 45 wing builds. Now it seems that Bombardier is going to be sending some of their aircraft work to Mexico City. An hour or so ago he phoned me up to ask me if I wanted to spend a month or even the whole summer in Mexico City. It seems they want to send him down there in order to teach the local folks how to build aircraft. The per diem is pretty good. I dunno..........??? -
Poll - Are You Attracted To Overweight People?
green replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am inclined to disagree with you that those women that you mention don't care that they are overweight. I suspect that they figure that because there isn't a lot that they can do about it they may as well try to accept themselves as they are. This would mean, among other things, that they don't talk to others about their weight issues and that they may have come to understand that the yo-yo-ing effect of dieting and then gaining back the weight which they have lost is not only not working but is also destructive emotionally and physically. The truth is that no one is happy being fat. -
Yep, I agree with the above posters. Ohio, you should not allow yourself to be thrown off this bucking bronco just because of a PM. This is our forum.

Omigawd, grrl, that white T-shirt is exactly what I am looking for. It seems that they don't import such items north of the border, eh.:cry blehhhh......... Unfortunately, Green cannot wear brown nor can she wear anything which wraps. :cry This is because I am relatively tubular in shape. I have a thick waist and comparatively narrow hips and though I have broad shoulders I am not especially chesty. An hour-glass I am not! and this is why I look best in boxy jackets and tops. I am kinda of the fatso version of Audrey Hepburn body-wise. Face-wise I have the ultra pale skin of a redhead and so don't look good in anything other than the winter colours. Summer is not my prettiest time of the year.:cry Thanks so much for thinking of me in this time of shopping sorrow. :think It is much appreciated, you know.

I believe that there at this moment two different discussions going on: one is to do with anti-smoking laws and the other is to do with the question of the smoker's addiction. Where I live has strict laws, as I have mentioned earlier in this thread, concerning smoke-free work places. As things presently stand no one is allowed to smoke inside a work place. We smokers are now accustomed to hitting the streets and the open air in order to top up our nicotine levels and this can be tough in the Canadian climate. The issue of the physical and psychological addiction to cigarettes is altogether another thing. Nicotine is a powerfully addictive substance, for some more than others, for this will depend on your particular metabolism. I once read that nicotine can be more addictive than heroin but I am unable to comment on the truth of this statement. What I can tell you is that nicotine is a government sanctioned drug. It is not illegal although it is becoming increasingly expensive to obtain. I can also tell you that we smokers are fully aware that smoking is bad for us. We know this not only academically but because we can feel some of the negative effects of this activity on an intimate level. Nevertheless, we keep on doing it until we can't stand to do it any longer. This is because smoking nicotine, just like smoking crack, is not only highly addictive, it is also pleasant. As for my own personal level of addiction, I am kinda stuck. I am on Zyban under its other name, Wellbutrin. It is one of the antidepressants which I am on. Unfortunately it ain't doing too much with respect to trimming back my nicotine habit, dammit!

All I want is the Audrey Hepburn T-shirt in size 3X! Is that so much to ask???:tired I have just come home after trying and failing once again! to find the perfect T-shirt in a size 3X. I want one with 3-quarter length sleeves, pure cotton, boat neckline, in black, white, deep grey, or a deep turquoise or periwinkel blue. What I have found are scoop necks, V-necks, long sleeves, short sleeves, no sleeves, an array of pastels, beiges, browns, synthetic blends, stuff with beads, with embroidery, and with appliques. I did discover that we now have a Land's End outlet up here in Toronto. They sell the kind of T-shirt that I am looking for but only in girlish sizes, dammit!:cry Then I started looking around me at other big women and I realised that an awful lot of them who were, well, kind of in my age group were wearing those scoop and V-neck T-shirts and they were showing some cleavage or tit-crack and I was kinda reminded of plumber's butt and not in a good way at that.:rolleyes I am fond of my country but it can it can be frustrating to shop up here at times and I live in the heart of Canada's largest city. I so regret not learning how to sew when I was young.:phanvan Knowledge really is power!

This is very true. I come from a family of depressives and I have struggled with this disease all my life. My life is a very pleasant and an interesting one but still I must take a number of medications and see a therapist in order to remain on an even keel. It is the luck of the genetic deck in my case.

While I am very pleased for you that you did manage to quit smoking, please don't preach to me about my smoking habit. It only makes me ornery. I certainly needed the assistance of the band in order to lose weight and it would seem that I am going to need some outside assistance in order to quit this habit, too! Seems that I am the addictive type.:cry Now, as it happens I do make a point of not smoking around non-smokers and I expect that they make a point of not preaching around me! :tired It's only polite.

Homosexual Liberal Atheists ~ What's UP with that?
green replied to paladin's topic in Rants & Raves
My husband refuses the lapdances or so he tells me.:rolleyes He tells them that he is married and then the girls suggest that he bring me in. He does like watching them, though, and drinking beer. He also enjoys striking up a conversation with one of the other patrons while he is there. It seems that going to the Temple is very much about male bonding. One day he took his dad and another old geezer over to our local strip club for lunch and nudity.:faint: Before I took an early retirement package I worked for awhile on Bombardier's Global jet, their answer to the Gulfstream V, and the crew I worked with were mostly single guys. They used to regularly invite me to go to a strip club with them at the end of the Friday night shift. I never did go. I am not hardwired to enjoy looking at naked women.:tired -
Yoda's Jedi Journals (aka Yoda's Yammerin's)
green replied to Yoda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You really look terrific, Yoda, but your skin could do with some moisturizer. :faint: What a change between the before and after photos! And you, Mr Yoda, will soon be joining Mrs Yoda with your own thin new look. Men lose weight so much faster than we do! Nice that you got the Demerol! I used my left-overs for going to the dentist; I have very sensitive teeth. Boy, did I ever enjoy going to the dentist!:rolleyes -
I do feel for ya but if there was a family section and an adults only section in the aircraft this could be a good thing for those of us who are old and cranky and travelling child-free.
-
Well if only there could still be an adults only section of the plane and cleaner air, whines Green, she could do without a cigarette! Afterall, there is always the nicotine patch! It's the noisy infants and the dirty cabin air which gets Green these post-smoke days!!:cry

Better to have safe legal abortions than unsafe illegal abortions like there used to be in them there good old days.

Christian Boylove Forum - It's good to see mainstream Christians loosening up a bit
green replied to marjon9's topic in Rants & Raves
Yes, a homosexual is born that way and thus cannot and should not be expected to change. Nor should he be viewed as abnormal or a sinner. This is an issue of nature. A paedophile, as with all others who are in the thrall of specific sexual fetishes or compulsions, are individuals whose sexual nature is the result of early (childhood) imprinting. This is of course the result of nurture. Some sexual fetishes don't hurt anyone and are considered to be benign or quirky. These are personal kinks or compulsions in taste which don't hurt anyone. Paedophilia is not one of these. And it seems that our current psychiatric techniques are not all that effective in dealing with this issue. This is, as I understand it, a real tragedy for most paedophiles genuinely do love children and don't want to hurt them. They are aware that they are doing wrong, are filled with self-loathing and yet seem to operate under a trance. True sadist paedophiles are, I have heard, relatively rare.
