    I have waited

Beedo, thank you for a heartwarming story and for sharing with us! My son has just started his journey. He won't get his surgery until the summer due to the 6 month diet plan. I will be excited for him to finally get his surgery. I had mine on Oct30,2009. It was the BEST thing ever for me. I have lost 104 lbs, an dam in maintenance, too. Your pictures are truly amazing, and I know that your friends and family are pleased and proud. "don't let those jealous men at work get you down, they only wish they looked as good eating their chocolate cakes"!!!!! Love it! Karen(kll724).
  3. Congrats!! You have come a long way. Yes, I am,also, in maintenance. I will say, it is not something that I am comfortable with, just take it one day at a time. I just watch 1-2 up/down. My surgeon had told me a long time ago, that women tend to do better than most men. Men will let themselves go to about 15 lbs, but woman will stop themselves at about 5 lbs gain. Good luck. Amazing job you have done. Karen(kll72)
  4. You should be up and walking everyday. There is no harm in you going for 15-30 min walks several times a day. You should not be jogging or doing other exercise until your surgeon's office has released you do that. Usually that is about 4-6 weeks after surgery. Don't be in a hurry to do ab crunches, etc. That will have to come much later, I think several months for me. Go carefully into whatever you do, good luck, Karen(kll724).
  5. Hi, I am 62 years young. I have lost 100 lbs, and my skin is a little saggy. I think that exercise helps. But, depending on age, I think skin evenuatlly shrinks. Mine has tightened up. I agree that arms are a major problem, but seeing the scars others have, I would rather have bat wings!!!! I think at my age, I am satisfied with the way I look. My breasts sag, also, but now I can wear the cute Victoria Secrets with under wires, and they are, if not perky, not bad looking. Karen (kll724)

    Can Still Barely Swallow

Hey, welcome to Lapband land. 1st of all, it has only been 4 days since your surgery, and you wrote this on day 3. There is a reason for us to be on clear liquids for a week to 2 weeks. I was on liquids only for 3 weeks, then mushies. Anyway, you are swollen, and passing only 1-2 onces of water is normal. Taking little sips is what you should be doing. I was able to drink a 4 ounce cup in about 30-60 mins shortly after surgery. take your time! Good luck!

Support for our Spouses to Avoid Divorce

I don't have an answer for you. But, I feel for you. I try to keep my lapband discussions to a minimal. Obviously you are a loving spouse, and, maybe, you could initiate a group of like spouses when you have your Meet and Greet at your house. Bless you and feel free to spout off when you need to. Karen(kll724)

Yup! That is me! Can't miss a sale. My favorite store is Bealls. It is a Florida dept store. I think maybe have some in Ga, or Carolinas. Anyway, what I have liked is that you can buy shorts in the winter. They have fantastic sales. Last week they had buy one clearnace item get 2nd for $.01. My surgeon says, "yes, there are worse things than clothing addiction!" Hah! He is not my husband. Haha! My husband feeds this addiction, too! Miss ya'll. KAren (kl724)

how does your band help you?

My lapband works fine for me,too. I went to a nutritionist before lapband, as a requirement of my surgeon. She had me start eating off salad plates instead of dinner size plates, and that helps, too. i find that lapband controls a lot of overeating urges, too. Good luck, Karen(kll724).
  11. I just commented on your thread about Dr Grossbard. Would love to be your friend and ride this ride with you. My son is just starting, and he is going to turn 36 on Jan. 31.

    New from Florida

I LOVE DR Grossbard. He is understanding, because was a patient, too! I am 15 months out from surgery, and have met my goal. His office has great ladies working for him, many of which are or have been his patient, too. Dr G.,also, preformed my daughter's gallbladder surgery and her weight loss surgery. My son just started as his patient on Monday. I think you will be quite satisfied with DR Grossbard. Karen(kll724).

Hi everyone, Haven't seen much action here. I guess everyone is busy. I miss y'all. I made my goal of 100 lbs lost. Actually I am 101 lbs down. Surgeon said he doesn't need to see me for 2 months. He is very proud of me, and said many people don't make their goal. I am proud too, I can't gain weight as I spent far too much money on my new wardrobe! I told him I have a new addiction, it is shopping! Help!!!
  14. HI Peg, I would like to be your friend. I am 62 years old. I am now 143. My surgeon recommended me to be 150, but I lost some more. I have reached my 100 lbs goal. I hope that we can continue to our goals into maintenance. I found it strange that your surgeon said 120. How short are you? I am 5'3" and he said woman of a certain age show their age too much if they get too small. Karen

  15. I was able to see my surgeons office for the 6 month diet. He sent me to a nutritionist and then weighed me in once a month. That was all that I needed to fulfill my insurance requirement. Hope that helps. Karen
  16. Well, now I will answer this correctly. I don't know any doctors in Mexico. But, I know that one of the best is there and he trained my surgeon. My surgeon 1st had his surgery from him. He was on Oprah one, but as I said, I don't know his name. My surgeon seemed to really like him, tho'. Just make sure that you get a reliable surgeon and can find someone who is willing to fill you in the States. By the way, my daughters friend, her BFF, and her aunt all went on a weekend excursion to Mexico 2 years ago, and loved the treatment they received. teh clinic picke dthem up from their hotel in San Diego. They had their surgery adn then returened them for a 3 day stay to San Diego. Once again, I do not know the surgeons name. I believe he is the same one that my surgeon had. Okay, I looked up the name from google, His name is Dr. Ortiz. he is the same one that did my surgeon surgery, and my surgeon loved him. Karen (kll724)
  17. Thanks Indiogirl and Jachut, You ladies are both my hero. I am 14 months out, and have reached goal after loosing 100 lbs. But, I still need to remind myself that this is a life style change. And, skinny people don't eat like fatty people. (Well, unless you have the motabolism of my d-i-l)! Anyway, I, also, eat of dessert plates. And, my husband is reminding me, now, that I have changed eating patterns. I am getting another 1/2cc unfill next week. I am down to 3cc now, but I am dropping too much weight for my face. I think that everyone is different, but, 8cc in a 10cc band is a lot, and you sound like you have good restriction, just that you are not sure of yourself, yet. Good luck, and have alittle self confidence, you are doing great in your weight loss journey. Karen (kll724)

    Bummer.....

My surgeon says that steak /beef is the hardest meat for a lapbander to eat. He said that there is only one cut that we should be eating(but then he got a phone call, and lost his train of thought). I am 1year and 3 months out, and I still can not digest steak! Goodluck with your trying, and your weight loss. Karen(kll724)

    Skipping breakfast?

I usually have a cup of coffee when I get up. I don't have anything to eat or a shake until later in the morning, anywhere between 9:30-11:00 depending what I am doing that day. Lunch usually is around 2:00pm. And my dinner is around 6:00. My breakfast is usually a high protein shake or a poached egg and toast.

    Goodbye 300 pounds!!

Congratulations for making your New Years goal! That was lofty, but you did it! You are on your way, so best of luck. Keep going, "slow and steady wins the race". This is my 5 year old grand daughters new saying, so I will say it to you. Good lock. Karen(kll724)

    I feel like I'm losing a friend...

We all get used to the "old" us. Someone asked me my motivation, it was health, but truly it was that I did not want to be that "Fat Lady in the choir". Now, folks don't remember the old me at all. But, I think the "loss of an old friend" is part of the reason for the psych evaluation. I was glad to loose her, and so is my husband and family as they were afraid she would kill me! Good luck, and Happy New year and new you!! Karen (kll724)
  22. Well, nice to meet you. I have been here in Florida for 4 years, and never to Cocoa Beach. Maybe next summer, as I actually look okay in a bathing suit, now. Feel free to send to me direct, if you like. Talk to you later, Karen(kll724).
  23. Hey, Mary, where do you live? My daughter was banded in November 2009. She is 40 and been married for 9 years. She has lost only about 40 lbs, but keeps her band kind o loose. She is about 20-30 lbs from goal, now. She goes to the same surgeon as I do and lives across the street from me. She is not very active on this site, tho. Karen

    Boobies question

Mine shrunk significantly. I was 42-44 dd, I am now 36 d. I have been measured as 34 c or d, but find I prefer my underwire 36 d brs, so even buy new at same size. It was excitiing for me to go to Victoria Secret to purchase them. I haev lost 100 lbs, but noticed the size change start at about 30 lbs. Good luck, Karen (kll724) PS: I have worn good bras from Victoria Secret since starting to loose weight, I had gotten 3 for Christmas in 2009. I wore them all for 9 months, until they were way big, them gave them to Salvation Army as a donation. I didn't feel too bad about that as I got a lot of wear out of them.
