  1. Given how much my stomach growls and roils and rumbles throughout the day since banding, Jacqui's comments about food passing up and down through the band all day makes sense. I don't remember my system ever being this loud before, and since I'm eating way less than before, I couldn't figure out why there was so much going on. Must be a quantity of food thing. And the incredible, long, loud, deep belches? OMG!!! Jeez, sometimes I feel like I should be a trucker or something. LOL! Yes, Dave that was so embarrassing to get used to this! I still have to hold my stomach to get it to quiet down, especially it wants to do this in church. Karen
  2. I guess that I am lucky. I don't have excess gas. I get some when I eat spicy, but know not to do that. Mostly can take care of that problem with Tums or Gas-x. None of the other kind, that you! Karen
  3. Wow! Wish my surgeon and husband knew about this. I think it sounds like what my husband could use. He is very afraid of being under tho', so he won't go for any surgery! He needs to loose about 150lbs, too. My son is due to go for surgery in August. I guess that I have a whole family that could use (or have had) lapband surgery. My daughter and I had it in 2009. You are doing great, Curt! Good luck in loosing your weight. Come back often to update us. Karen

    NSV - Shopping

That is the best NSV I have heard. Yeah for you!
  5. Yes, and when I was able to not need a bath sheet after shower, it was exciting, too! I still buy beach towels as I am the only one in my family, (other than DIL) who doesn't need them to get around their girth. Yeah for us!

    Introducing my new life

Good luck, you are at my stage 2 years ago. I was frightened that I would not loose the weight. I had lost and gained hundreds of pounds over the years. I am, soon, going to be 63 years old and weigh what I did 36 years ago, 144. I started at over 250. I was so embarrassed when I had to go to another center to have my bone scan as the machine where I was only went to 250. You won't regret it; but remember that it is a tool and you have to work it! Best wishes, Karen
  7. I hope that you are feeling better. Yes, you probably need to stay on liquids for a day or 2. My surgeon is very conservative and says 2 days clear and 2 days full liquids after a fill. I, usually, make it 3 1/2 days before I try anything with much consistancy to it. Good luck, don't wait too long for an unfill, if needed. But, try to get by with liquids 1st. Good luck, Karen

    The carbonated drink myth

I save my soda drinking for when I am ill. If my stomach is not feeling well, and I can't keep anything down, I have a glass of Orange Crush or Sierra Mist Natural made with real sugar to get my electrolytes up and some calories in me. There is no other time that soda does anything for me. I never was a big soda drinker, but since banding 19 months ago, I can say I don't even want it anymore.

    Over 60 bandsters?

Me!!!I am you. I was 60 and had all the above! I have had the lapband for 19 months now. I have lost my 100 lbs. and have gained self confidence and an addiction to clothes because I can buy things in the misses and juniors dept without trying them on. I was a 22 or 24 w and am now an 8 misses or 9 juniors. I was 30 years overweight. It was 20 years since I was under 200 lbs. I am now 144 and loving it!!!Good luck, you won't regret it, I don't. Karen

Just found this site. Glad I did.

Welcome Ladies, both of you are starting on the journey to change your lives. I have been banded since Oct 30, 2009. I am not an expert, but am willing to try answer any questions you might have, It gets better, believe me. It is good that you are following your surgeon's orders to the T. Mine is real strict, but I try to do what he says, too. Good luck and congratulations on your journey to your new life. Karen

    is diarrhea a bad sign?

I think that you are probably experiencing loose bowels, as opposed to diarrhea. I had very loose bowels while only taking in liquids. Beef broth made me have to run. As the op said, liquids in, liquids out. I think that you are fine, but if you are worried, call your surgeon's office. Karen
  13. Congrats on reaching this important goal. I remember the great feeling, when I reached it, it had been like 20 years since I had been under 200. Good luck in your future loss. Karen

    Protein drinks

I use bananas and peanut butter and whey protein vanilla. i think they are yummy! Also, have added fresh pineapple for a variation. Good luck! I drink at least one a day for breakfast. Sometimes, if I don't have appetite for other foods I have one for dinner too. Karen
  15. I know that I was up walking at least 5x in the time I was in the hospital(had to have overnight stay per ins). I walked around the block with an assist aone i got home. Walking is important for healing, and walking upright is too. Your stomach area will heal better! Good luck, karen

    Esophageal Spasms

I had a problem last summer, it was March when I had my fill and between June and August I had a slip and had to have my port emptied. It took a month but then I was better. Take care, and hope that you will have the success after one month like I did. Karen

    Drink and Drive

Yes, learn to sip! I live in Florida, too, and I usually have a bottle of water or other liquid with me. I have never had a problem with drinking and driving. You won't be able gulp your liquid, if you do, you could have a problem, but as you get used to sipping, it should not be a problem. Good Luck, Karen

    Maintance

I find maintenance pretty tough. I can't go with too much fill, a I loose to much weight, and I can't go without fill as I gain. I currently at 3 cc, and seem to be okay with that. Good luck. I have lost 104 lbs, but maintaining at about 100. Karen

    The Unfill

Yay! You go Girl. You can do it. I will be the 1sst to tell you an empty band is scary, but with exercise and self control, you can do it. Goodluck. Karen
  20. Back n 2009, I started my 6th month supervised diet in April, I had my surgery On Oct 30, 2009. It was only about 3 weeks after the end of my diet when I had my surgery. My son just finished his 6 month diet, but the surgeon says Aetna is super slow at approving, so he scheduled my son's surgery for the 1st Friday in August. Good luck, Karen

    Aetna covers Lapband?

I have Aetna, 2 years ago they required me to have a 6 month diet, and a nutritionist. My son, also, has Aetna, he just finished his 6 month diet, and is waiting for approval, now. So, from what I can tell, they require a 6 month diet, and 40 BMI and then will determine from there. Good luck, Karen

new to forum + bmi tracker off?

Congratulations of your awesome weight loss. Looks like you just celebrated your 1st bandaversary, and are very close to goal. I think that you have a very realistic goal of 11-11-11. My only caveat is that the last 30 or so lbs go slower because you a re getting smaller and the closer to gaol the harder, it seems. Good luck. Karen.. And welcome to the forum!

    I hate when

Absoldarnlutely! Your body and you know it better than anyone else. My surgeon never questions me, now. I am at goal and know when I need a tweek either way. Karen
  24. I, also, had a big change in shoe size. I went from 8 1/2 or 9 w to 7 1/2 m. There were no 2 ways around it, I had to donate all my shoes and buy new ones. I, now, only own 1 pair flats, 2 dress sandals and 1 pair sneakers, 2 pair flip flops. I used to have at least 25 pairs in my closet. I have a friend who was banded 2 weeks ago that I advised that she would probably have to get rid of her shes, too! Karen

    eating before a fill?

I am not told anything about before a fill. I, also, recommend having something to eat because I am 48 hrs clear an 48 hrs full liquids after the fills. I would be starving by the time I got to eat. Goodluck. Karen
