Slow weight Loss...is this normal
kll724 replied to reaperofharvest's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are doing real good! Slow and steady wins the race! Your surgeon should be able to reach your port. Wonder why it is so deep. Good luck, Karen -
I was told no caffeine during healing. I love coffee, caffeine free tea wasn't doing it. So as soon as I was not on clear liquids I added a cup of coffee in the A.M. with a little skim milk. I am still drinking it, and am now into my 20th month after surgery. Good luck, follow your surgeon's guidelines. Karen

I hit the 2-year mark August 10th
kll724 replied to Cherishthepast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Read your story, incredible is all I have to say. I am 63, have lost 100 lbs, and am in maintenance, now. I will have my 2 year anniversary on Oct. 30. It is a wonderful thing to be thinner, but I don't want plastic surgery. I will deal with the apron and such. Good luck to all and enjoy your new bodies! Karen -
Okay, here is my 2 cents worth! You were only banded 2 weeks ago. Why are you in such a hurry to try to eat what is not recommended? You should not be eating and swallowing as normal. I know that is a tough thing to hear as a mother of 3 little ones, but you need to take a baby spoon and eat little tiny bites, and chew, chew, chew. Practice that! Small portions on small plates are what you are trying to achieve, not what you can eat, but what you should eat. Drink plenty of fluids and get bak to your surgeons guide line, then you will start loosing again, and you will not be embarrassed to go back to the surgeon for your 1st fill. Good luck. Karen

How long where you on liquids post-op?
kll724 replied to JoJo22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My son had his surgery on Aug. 5th. He was on clear liquids for a week following surgery. He was on full liquids for the last 4 weeks. He started mushies, yesterday! If you are eating mushies at 2 weeks, be thankful! Karen -
Woohoo! Congrats, it is onderful when we hit the 1's!

Trying to get protein levels up-protein shakes?
kll724 replied to jolizziejones's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think you would do any harm. I have a protein smoothy for breakfast most days. I have met goal and lost my weight doing so. I use a blender and add fruit, protein powder and milk. Others drink Muscle Milk and the like. You will probably be fine. Karen -
Hi, I'm worrying if this is normal?
kll724 replied to msaprildawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will feel gas, but if you are fearful, call your surgeon's office. Usually the gas settles in the shoulder, causing much pain. Walking will help that. Take Gas-x for other stuff. Good luck. Karen -
I am at goal! But, my goal was lower than my doctor's goal. He said 150, because of my age, 63. He said older woman(he by the way is around 65), look bad if they loose too much weight. I am hovering around 140-145. That keeps me in a BMI of normal. I feel great, and never thought that I would meet goal. This is the 1st time I met goal in all my weightloss programs. You need to determine what you want to loose. If you are happy at weighing 180, and still being overweight for your height, then set that as your goal. Good luck, Karen

I agree with Dave! You have done it before, you can do it again! Mostly, forgive yourself, because you don't want to wallow in self pity. Good luck! Karen

:lol:Good luck, and congrats at onderland!

Not sure. They might. I would give you my surgeon site, but I can't find his card to give you the information. Sorry! Karen

Hi Maryjo, welcome to the site, too! I am glad to hear that Lakeland is finally getting lapband surgery. Dr Grossbard was trying to work with folks here to get it started. In fact, he gives seminars here at the library. I wish you much success with your lapband, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Karen

Wow! Ebby, I am super jealous! I only wish that my husband would do the surgery. He claims to have gained 10 lbs in 1 week. He has super slow metabolism, and he has finally started to try a liquid diet. But, he doesn't eat much, he is just a major couch potato. He has lots of co-mortibities, so he would be great candidate . I wish you and your hubby luck, you sound like the two of you will have much success. Good luck, Karen

Hi Lvgirl, Good luck on a quick approval. Welcome to the board. I am on here several times a day to read peoples updates and to update myself. It has been very helpful to keep me on track; plus, there is a lot of helpful people and information here. Karen

Welcome, and good luck.. I am sure that you can do it. But, you probably need to see a food psychologist to discuss your problem with food. My daughter, and I, both know what is good, bad and nutritious, for us. We both have had to have wls. It is easy to know what to do, but not a easy to do it. My number one thing was learning to only eat when I was truly hungry, not when someone told me it was time to eat. I still am battling that problem, after 2 years. hopefully. someday, I will win. Good luck, again. Karen

Woo hoo! I now weigh less than I have in 5 years
kll724 replied to theodoru's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea! and congrats. You are doing great. Your in the same boat as I was before weight loss surgery. I was the type that got bored with dieting and would stop or slow down. I had lost 40 lbs with WW and then went on vacation for 3 weeks cross country traveling. I think I gained 20 lbs that trip. Yipes! so I am now, for the 1st time in my life, at goal. You can do it. This "old" lady of 63 did it at 60. Good luck. Karen -
HI, I am, also, in Florida. I live in central Florida, Lakeland. Where do you live in Florida? I go to Dr. Grossbard out of Zephryhills. He, also, has done my daughter and son's surgery. Yes, we have a tendency toward overweight. I am at goal, my daughter has lost about 50lbs so far, and my son just had surgery on August 5. Good luck to your journey! Keep us up to date on it. Karen

Approved...after putting my foot down!

Some times a little perseverance and persistence on your part works wonders. Congrats, I will bet that the surgeon's office will be a little more careful who the PO next time! Karen -
New to Lap Band Talk, but not to the lap band
kll724 replied to hoosiergirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Teri, Welcome to lapband talk. Congrats on your weight loss. I,, too, am in maintenance. It is hard, almost, harder than the original weight loss because of the fill problem. I was banded Oct. 30 2009. Good luck, you sound as if you have made it! Karen -
Yeah! and congrats on all your NSV's. Have fun on your future trip. Karen
-
Woohoo! No, usually the only people that get their operation this quick are self pay. Good for you, and good luck. If I could ever talk my husband into the surgery, he would have to be a quick acceptance, too, as he would be to impatient to have to do a 6 month diet.

Until you are used to taking little bites, try using a baby/toddler spoon and fork. Also, using a dessert or salad plate will make you more used to the size portions you should be eating. Good luck. (PS: I. also, am not the best chewer, it takes practice.)Karen

Poll: What was your longeest "episode"?
kll724 replied to sdpressl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The last time I had a fill. Went in for a fill on Wed. I started being sick around Thurs., by Friday I called the surgeon's office. Someone advised me to hold out, maybe it would be better. Could barely get out of bed over weekend, but waited until Monday morning, called and they said come in. Surgeon said you could have called over weekend, we would have seen you! I had 1/2 cc removed, and was better right away. Don't wait, if you need help! I did and it was very bad. Good luck. Karen -
When can you have salad?
kll724 replied to cat lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i don't eat it! My daughter, who also has lapband, has no problem. I find the lettuce is hard to chew up; try baby spinach, also, tomato skins are bad. I am not telling you to not try, but be aware! You should not eat salad on mushy diet, tho'. Karen
