Good article. I read the whole thing and agree with it. It is hard to get to the point hat the article wants us to be. We have learn to know our own bodies. Good luck to us all! Karen

2 years ago, both my daughter and I had just had our lapband done. She was still in full liquid stage. We went out to eat at a nice restaurant that was serving for $15.00 a plate. We had enough leftovers to take home 8 boxes. And we each had 3 meals. This year, I am scheduled for a fill day before Thanksgiving. I plan on being a great hostess and making sure everyone has their fill. Unfortunately, this year their are 3 of us with lapbands! I will have to think about reducing the amount of food prepared! Good luck to us all. Karen

The ULTIMATE Compliment!!!!!....????

Yah! That! -
Jachut is so right! Plus she has been on this path longer than me and most of us. Heh! I told my surgeon I was taking a cruise in 3 weeks and di dnot want a fill tis time. he said ok, wait until you get back. I have an apt for a fill the day before Thanksgiving! I guess this year I will be inhaling smells and being a real good hostess, but not eating. My surgeon requires 2 days of Clear liquids after a fill! But, life goes on! You should be able to have pasta, at times. I can eat crunchy lasana noodles. You, also, have the option of eating your meatballs with out the speghetti, just sauce. Learn to enjoy, it will be okay! The 60s -- the greatest decade to grow up in!
kll724 replied to SassySenior's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I lived in the middle of nowhere North Dakota as a teenager, but when I was 19 moved to Maryland. As a young teenager I had a chance to see CC Rider, but the boy who wanted to take me was unacceptable to my Dad, so I didn't get to go! I did not go to many concerts. Many of the people you saw, Katie are some of my favorites too! Do you remember mini-skirts up to here, and short shorts? I still had a figure during the late 60's and 70's, so I could wear that stuff. As, long as I was with my husband, it was ok. He was very jealous of me and other men looking at me! Haha! I am alomst back to where he will start getting jealous again!!!! I remember the day that JFK came to my home town. My history teacher was my homeroom teacher. She says to us," I can't giv eyou permission to go, but if I turn around, and you are not here, then I don't know anything! " So, a group of us walked from our school up to the university campus to see him. He was the only president that I ever felt that close to! God rest his soul! Come on folks! Give us some more memories! Karen -
What ZONE do you think I'm in???
kll724 replied to Carly246's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that you are possibly in the "red" zone. It sounds like you might be best with a slight unfill. You should not be having to resort to slider foods and or find it uncomfortable to eat 75% of the time. Goodluck. Karen -

The 60s -- the greatest decade to grow up in!
kll724 replied to SassySenior's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okay folks, I will try to remember back in "the old days"! I graduated in 1966. I remember the "British invasion" ! I was in 10th grade when the Beatles came to Ed Sullivan show. But.... I also, remember when A fellow named Elvis made his Ed Sullivan appearance. My poor Grandmother had come to visit us a we had just had our tonsils taken out and needed a caregiver. She was horrified when she saw him. Thank God that they blanked out the bottom half of the screen. HAHA! My 1st concert was Paul Revere and the Raiders. I was so in love with Paul! I did not go to Woodstock, I babysat for a couple that did though. I met my husband when he was a Marine. He had just returned from 3 tours in 'Nam. He left eh MArine when they wantd to send him for a th tour. He has a hard time understanding the several tours to Afganistan and Iraq! Later folks! Keep this going. Love it! Karen -
I don't have a potassium problem, but I add a banana everyday to a fruit smoothy. You could try that, too! Check with your surgeon though for advice. Karen

2nd day out and not sure what is going on
kll724 replied to amanda_leigh78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Loved having hot and sour Soup from the local Chinese restaurant. I strained it and let my husband have the stuff I couldn't. It is a break from the normal broth. I, also, did not drink it but used a spoon. Also, try Special K Protein Water, it is dry packet to add to regular water. It has about 3 protein per packet. Good luck, you can do it! Karen -
Hi Kati.pea, welcome to the forum and to the 60's group. Hopefully we can get that forum to be more active!

I have an Allergen, 10 cc band. I never had GERD before lapband. Infact, even when I was pregnant back in the 70's no heartburn. But, I have always had a problem with queasy stomach and used to think I had an ulcer. I did not. I had my gall bladder taken out in 2001. I am very happy with my band. I tried for years to loose weight, only to regain like many other people. About the clear liquids, no I wasn't starving. You really get very inventive after awhile. My favorite was hot and sour Soup. I strained it, and my husband ate the rest of it. I ate a lot of pop cycles, and sucked on hard candy as it was ok'd by my surgeon office. I am now on the full liquids until Friday. I don't regret getting the surgery at all. My son, 36, just had it in August. he has already lost 57 lbs. He is using me as his model, but knows the problems I had, so is much more careful than I was! Good luck. Karen

Hi Ladies, I think that not many people check this site anymore because it got real slow. I do sometimes, thats how I found you. Good luck to everyone, and welcome to this site. There are actually quite a few women and men in our age group, too! I had my surgery on Oct 30, 2009. I am almost 2 years out. I have been at goal for about 10 months. I had slippage and had to have a readjustment on my band on Friday, Oct.14. It appears that my problems started from GERD, and continued when I got a stomach virus. Vomiting(real stuff not productive burping), was probably the real culprit. Anyway, I am good, but can't wait to get back to real food. I have been on clear liquids for a week, and now, full liquids for another week. Welcome to lapband, and good luck. Keep in touch, Karen

Surgery on Oct 17 and feeling really hungry- Should I eat more?
kll724 replied to lisa123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have some ice pops, jello etc. But don't start the mushie stage until surgeon recommends. I agree that following drs orders are important for success. Good luck to you! Karen -
Wow! Hurray for big sales! You did have an angel this morning. Someone up there loves you! Great going! Karen

I, also, have 10 lb restriction. I just had an adjustment. I am waiting 1 1/2 weeks. If i find it too difficult, I will "blind" myself after the 1st game. But, talk to your surgeon, he/she will give you your answer, best! I am only restricted to whatever I feel like I can do as far as activity. But, I have been banded for 2 years, and am at goal! That might make a difference in the answer, too! Good luck, Karen

HA! Sounds good to me! My husband says I look at least 10 years younger! 20 sounds even better, but then I would be younger than my oldest daughter! :oB) -
No, but my daughter had runny bowels after banding due to liquids in, liquids out! Good luck to you, hope that you get your answers. Karen

Haha! I love it! Last May, I went to Arizona for vacation. We wanted to go to Grand Canyon. So, since I live in Florida, I hit the GoodWill store in Az. I found some nice looking jackets and such. I was able to wear them once or twice in Az mountains. I got home and hung them in the back closet, as it was now summer. I tried them on last winter, too big. I had to give all my Goodwill finds back to Gooodwill here in Florida. Oh well, someone else got to use them. Good luck on your search. Don't spend too much, you might only get one season out of them! Karen

Oh, let us know what happens. I just had to have my lapband adjusted with major surgery last Friday. I was like you, but could get liquids down. My major problem was that I coughed all night long. And, vomited phelem. I then started not allowing anything to stay in my band. I hope that he is able to help you before it gets to where I was. By the way, I feel great now, but it has been a week of clear liquids and now a week of full liquids before starting on real food again. Good luck. Karen

kll724 replied to SassySenior's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Ladies, I just read this. Slow, sometimes! Brenda, you have done marvelously! And Kati, where are you on your progress? I was 62 when I got my band. I have lost 100 lbs and feel great! I have been at goal for about 10 months, now. I am not going to tell you it was all a bed of roses. But, I feel great, and look better! I love shopping as my new addiction, not food! My husband is still a pusher, but, he used to push food. Now, he pushes clothes shopping! He always liked me to dress nice, but at 250 lbs, it is hard to find nice looking clothes that look nice on you. Good luck to both of you ladies. Karen -
Getting back into this after LIFE happened
kll724 replied to gMommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I so agree with the ladies above. Don't let a man mess with your progress. Also, my fills were never whether I lost enough weight. My surgeon gave fills IF I didn't loos enough weight! I think a punching bag sounds like a great idea. You can take out agression on it, and stay away from eating as an answer. Good luck! Karen
