After 4 Years I'm Almost To My Goal Weight!
kll724 replied to sharmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hurray, Sharmon, and welcome to lapband talk. Please stay awhile and enjoy our group as we are mostly friendly and pretty helpful and supportive! Best wishes on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Karen -
Thanks all for the birthday wishes! And yes, you are right, it would have been a meal for me with breadsticks, salad, soup, etc...and then a big birthday cake! I am glad that I am so past that! Best birthday and bandiversary wishes to all of us! Karen

Thank you for your comments, I have believed for a while that a lot of IBS is gluten intolerance. My children and grandchildren all have a gluten intolerance. My son has been diagnosed with celiac disease. He does fine following a gluten lapband diet because we can't eat much bread anyway! Good luck, Karen

Good luck, don't get overfilled. Restriction is tricky!

If you have coke, make sure that it is out of the draft. It might have a lot of fizz at 1st, but it will go flat quicker. My hubby, son, d-i-l- and I share a pitcher of diet Pepsi when we bowl, it goes flat quickly, but it quenches well. You are pretty new to the lapband, so if I was you, I would stick to the above suggestions, tho'. Good luck, Karen

I can eat broccoli crowns, very tender, and I can, also, eat asparagus tips. Just remember to chew well and only the crowns will do for me! Best wishes, Karen PS: I can't eat much salad, most lettuce gets caught!

I had my worst time when I was on the pre-op liquid diet. As was said earlier, liquids in liquids out. But I promise you, it will improve as your diet improves. Take care! Karen

Down 10 Pounds Two Weeks- But Gaining When Eating Food
kll724 replied to Carpe Diem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight gain after 2 weeks liquids is normal! Hey, my nephew laid in a hospital bed without food for 2 weeks, and no liquids and did not loose anything! But, that is neither here nor there. anyway, it is normal because you are now eating, so gaining little is normal. But you have done fine and will start to lose. If I lost the 1st 2 weeks, I don't remember. But I did gain a lb or 2 after I started to eat. I was on liquids for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after! Bets wishes to all , Karen -
Congratulations Shoshanna! You have done great, college weight! Woohoo!

You can do this, you are a strong person. You have come this far and don't want to go back. Good luck, and enjoy your vacation! Karen

A lot of times, the surgeon can unfill, and it goes back into shape. After my 2nd slip, the band did not go back, so I was also scheduled for surgery. He was afraid he would have to remove it and make me wait for a month to have it replaced. But,(thank you God), he was able to reposition it and did not have to remove it. I have had no further problem s since and that was back in November 2011. I hope that you are as lucky. Slips can happen from a lot of vomiting. Mine, like AmyD102, happened from a stomach virus, and I was also, dehydrated. Best wishes to anyone who might get a slip. Karen

Hi, I hope that you are feeling better. My gallbladder attacks were in the middle of my chest right below my breasts, sometimes between my breasts. It would hurt like I was being stabbed with a HOT knife thru to my back. Now, back to the question at hand. When you have a slip, you will ore than likely have night coughs and reflux. You will not, usually, be able to keep down cottage cheese, or any solids. Water will usually go thru, but coffee might come up. Call your surgeon if you are still in pain! Best wishes, Karen

Banded A Week Ago -- No Appetite!!
kll724 replied to JewelsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine as long as you take in your fluids. I had no appetite either. But, try to take in some nourishment. I know they say sugar free, but, I think that you should or could drink some Gatorade or the like. Best wishes. Karen -
Best wishes to all you newbies, surgery isn't taking the easy way out, but for most of us it is the last straw and chance. Keep us informed of your progress! Karen

Losing Weight During The Pre-Op Diet
kll724 replied to funnyfacebeauty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed, strictly, on liquids and only lost 6 lbs in 2 weeks. Don't go hitting yourself in the head or comparing your loss to others. Everyone's body is different and so everyone's losses will be different. Best wishes on your journey! Karen -
I Have No Idea What I Will Look Like
kll724 replied to yourshoesareuntied's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good attitude! I bet you will be damn sexy and great looking, too! My son had surgery almost 1 year ago, he looks a smaller version of himself. He hasn't looked as thin since maybe his high school pictures,(or jr hi). I 'll bet you will love the new you just fine,(and so will the ladies)!!!Best wishes, Karen -
Hello Folks, today is my 64th birthday! I can't say that I am the happiest I have eve been, but I am content. I am not the smallest I have ever been as an adult, but I am good with my size and weight. I can wear minis if I so choose, mostly my skorts and culottes are above my knees, but my dresses are at knee length. If I wear longer dresses, I feel "frumpy". I have lost 100 lbs and have maintained for about 1 year. I had surgery on Oct 30, 2009. I chose lapband because I was the fattest lady I knew! I have since referred 3 others to my lapband surgeon! Good luck to all and best wishes for our futures! Karen

This is a great NSV!!!You probably deserve a new pair or 2. Best wishes,Karen

On the other hand, mine told me hard candies were fine! So its whatever YOUR surgeon says. I sucked sugar free candy and mints like they were going out of style. Also, I ate sugar free popcicles and pudding. Very low in calories, both. Best wishes. Karen

Oh my goodness, Stace! You look great! What a wonderful NSV as to see your own pictures and realize how far yu've come! Congrats to you, keep up the great work. Karen

Hello El_Cid, my son had his surgery last August 5th. He has lost about 95 lbs. he started at 320, and is to 225-220 somewhere. He loves restaurants and eating, but he has done real good, hang in there, you can do it too! Our surgeon's ofc has a protein drink to mix with milk, water or juice. I would suggest trying to find something like that at the health food store. Best of luck, also, we have a Florida group, join us if you like. Karen

Greetings And Finally A Group That Will Have Me And Am Glad To Be Part Of!
kll724 replied to Winsane's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What Ilene said! Best wishes to you, but you do have to change your eating habits. Baby steps, 1st! My trick (and my nutritionist's) is to use a small plate, kid size if you have them. I use salad plates exclusively. I, also, use small forks, dessert, I guess they are called. I share at restaurants, being a senior citizen it s easier. But, don't try to eat until you are full, eat only what your nutritionist says is portion size. If you haven't had to consult a nutritionist, do so! (meat the size of your palm, or deck of cards)etc. You can do it, just have faith in yourself. Karen PS: As Ilene said, also, get a support group! -
Can The Band Reposition Itself After A Slip?
kll724 replied to marfar7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, a band can reposition itself. Usually, it is after the fill is out. If you can eat and have no reflux, I would say that you are okay. But, if you are in doubt, call your surgeon's office and ask. I don't blame you for not wanting to drive the 6 hours for a "yes" answer. Best wishes, your body, your decision. Karen
