Can't Sleep!! 1 Wk Post Op
kll724 replied to Oh-la-la's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, don't think you will do any harm sleeping on your side. If you do, then maybe your port is not attached well! Anyway, it is quite normal to have trouble getting comfortable, as others have said, try putting a pillow on your side and rolling toward it. Best wishes for some sleep. Karen -
Go with her to a party before your surgery. You can't eat Chinese 5 days after believe me. You might feel you can, but it is not a good idea, you will still be in recovery stage. Don't start your new life with that challenge. Best wishes in whatever you decide to do. Karen

Molady, I think you could wait a day or two. My surgeon recommends 2 days clear liquids. Yvonne74, how are you doing now? Stay in touch both of you ladies, we need updates! Karen

Congratulations on your bandiversary! I always have a cup of coffee 1st thing. The doctors claim that a cup of coffee is good for women. I have used coffee from the 3rd week of my surgery. I am almost 3 years. I can't function without 1 cup in am. Best wishes and keep in touch with your surgeon's office. Karen

What Do Your Meals Look Like 2 Or 3 Years Out?
kll724 replied to sjwillow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I could eat an egg and toast for breakfast; but instead, because I get a lot of protein from them, I have a fruit, with protein powder added, smoothy. For lunch I usually have chicken or tuna salad with some crackers. I usually have fish or chicken for dinner with a small starch, and a veggie. I eat very little red meat, and hardly any pasta. Bread is still a nono for me. If I have a snack, I use a ramikin and have no more than what I can put into it. I, usually, have 2 to 3 cups of coffee with skim milk during the day. -
Congratulations to all of you on the birth of your babies. Great that you are wanting to get back on track. I found pushing the baby on walks was good exercise after my kids were born back in the 1970's. I lived on a hill, it was great for the legs and was good to help in weight loss, too!! Best wishes. Can See Port Under Skin
kll724 replied to lindabug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
totally normal! Mine got more prevalent the more weight I have lost. It is funny when you can see it pop out like a turkey timer! -
I have to disagree with the google search! Most of the members of my family are gluten free out of choice due to problems with wheat allergies. The thing you must remember is that going gluten free does not mean that the gluten free foods are diet foods. If you have been tested for gallstones and egg allergies, have you had a test for wheat allergies? Anyway, try cutting out wheat,(wheat or wheat gluten are in almost everything), it is not an easy thing to do, but it is a lot easier today than it was back 7 years ago. Also, anything with MSG can cause a reaction, I can't use MSG, personally; it will cause a quick trip to the bathroom for me. Best of luck in you search for answers. Karen

kll724 replied to dj112's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon has done self pay within a 2 week period of having their seminar. That is not th eusual thing, however. Best of luck. Karen -

Third Adjustment...not Feeling Restriction Yet....help!!!!
kll724 replied to ktsped's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, you all are doing great! 27 lbs in 3 months, wow! Restriction isn't magic. If you can only eat a small amount, and then you are full, that is restriction. Remember, the band is a tool. It won't stop you from eating. It will only give you warnings, if you heed them. Like someone else said, hickcups or burping or a slight discomfort in you chest, is restriction! You need to learn to eat like a "skinny" person. Try using a small plate and eating with a small fork. If you "fool" your brain, you will feel satisfied. The idea is satisfied, not FULL! Full is what most people feel after eating Thanksgiving dinner. You don't want that feeling with the band. Best wishes.Karen -
Wow! Passive aggressive there, Doctor! I am sure that he feels his "bedside" manner is what it takes for many people to lose weight; my own daughter ran into a problem with our surgeon. He wanted to lecture, too. She finally said, look just fill me! She has been banded for almost 3 years and has lost about 40-50 lbs, but has recently gained back 7. She is now logging her food intake. You really need to go back to logging your food. It does help. He has never been the kind to force a weight loss tho. Best wishes. Karen

Calm down, folks. This is not a race. I had a couple months of no weight loss, then a couple of 1-2 pounds. Make sure that you are getting your protein. If you snack, have a healthy one. Don't have potato chips, because as the commercial says, bet you can't eat 1! Plateaus are a bugger, but you can get through them. Good luck. Karen

Living At 50 Lbs Over Ideal Weight Better Than What It Takes To Be Ripped?
kll724 replied to 1970MaleJaxFL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think if you are happy, then you have a realistic goal. My son is, currently, at 212; he will hit 100 lbs lost at 208. The surgeon will be thrilled for him to have lost 100 lbs. He wants to get under 200, which would look great on him, but will be happy with whatever more weight he looses. I hope that makes sense and doesn't come off as rambling! Best wishes, Karen -
Sorry for your discomfort. I am surprised that you have no restriction at 8 cc. I would, also, take a few more days of liquid. My own surgeon has us do 2 clear and 2 full liquids even after a unfill. You are probably very swollen. Your surgeon sounds pretty aggressive to me. My son is at 7 cc and he can barley eat anything. I can't tolerate anymore than 5 cc. Maybe, it took this bit of stress to "kick" in your restriction. Best wishes for your full recovery and weight loss. Karen

LapBandTalk Newsletter 08/05/2012

Thank you for including me in your spotlight this month. It was my pleasure to participate and read my own story! Karen -
This has been my attitude all along. I have many people who have come into my life who did not know the fatter me. They don't need to know that I had wls. If someone asks how I lost all the weight,(and they don't know me well), my d-i-l and I have chosen to say eating less and exercise. Best wishes to you and whatever you choose to do! Karen

Congrats to all who have entered into lapband world to keep off the weight loss. I, too, have done the yoyo dieting. The lapband is a new way of life. It should prevent the type of yoyoing most of us have gone through. I, also, needed something to keep me going after I get bored with dieting! My surgeon has a website that asks why you are here, the most common answer is because I get bored with dieting! Best wishes to all, Karen

Thanks Everyone for the birthday wishes. BJC1227, I know about those wedding pictures. I have been in 2 sets, even that didn't make me lose the weight. Wow! I look back at them and wish there could be a do over. I have so many pictures that need do overs! But, if that can be momentum to keep the weight loss going, great for you. I wish everyone great success. Karen

WHOOHOO! Congrats, keep on keeping on!

I want to welcome you again. It sounds like you are doing pretty good for an "old Gal". We are as young as we feel, and you said you feel good, so you are 65 years young! I started this process when I was 60 and have had my lapband almost 3 years. We have a great group of folks here on both the 60's group and the whole forum. Best wishes to you, Karen
