Hi! I am Cristina and I am havingmy lapband done on november 19th 2009. I have battled my weight almost my entire life. Funny this is that after having my first child I went to a very healthy weight and this was so hard to believe because I was young and ate totally wrong durring that preg. I slowly began putting back on the weight and then my second child came along and my husband made sure I ate all the right things and I ballooned. I went to 189 and stayed there for the most part. Yo YO diets etc. My best effort got me to 168. Today I am weighing in at 202 lbs and I am having many health issues due to my weight, sleep apnea, high cholest and on my last blood check we found i was becomming insilin resistant. My first 2 grand children were born in 2007 and 2008. They were placed into my custody the early part of this year for about a month and a half and my daughter was here with them about 2 mo prior to that. This is when I really realized I had to do somthing about my weight. I was so tired after a simple day with my grand daughters. I am fortunate enough I did not have to work just take care of them nap time came and I was out they got to bed for the night and I was out. My husband if he came home before or during bath time was asked to please do it I am so tired. Any way becuase of the situation with my granddaughter and not knowing if I will Have to take care of them again at any given moment, I knew I needed to look seriously at my weight. I had looked at gastric bypass and didnt like that even watched a friend who suffered with the after effects, I knew about the band but it was so new. I did a lot of research on it and then one day a friend told me she had it done. I had no idea that was how she lost all her weight. We talked about it alot and I was ready to take that step. I called my insurance company and asked if they covered it then checked to see if my friends surgeon was on my plan and sure enough he was. In about 2-3 weeks I went from checking out my insurance to being scheduled for surgery on October 19th 2009. I was not required to do the 6 mo medically supervised weight loss. I have heard my insurance Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield no longer has that requirement, but all other bcbs does. I am so happy about my decision, while I am not that over weight waking up in the morning with out my cpap machine hooked to me would be a great thing. Knowing that I can play with my grand daughters with out getting tired or my back or feet aching will be the bomb. I am worried about the all liquid diet because I really love food and was raised you can't live if you dont eat. If I make it through this phase I will be ok.
