Well, where do I start? I have been overweight for several years now, started back in the 1990's after I had three major back surgeries. The weight just kept creeping up. I did all he normal diets, Jenny Craig, Nurtasysterm, Weight Watchers etc. Yeah like everyone I would lose and gain it all back and more.In June I read an article on Lap Band and thought why not ask the doctor what he thinks, what he thinks was to try and go back on Weight Watchers and stick with it, It was useless, I asked about the Lap Band and he agreed to let me get a referral to see a Lap Band surgeron. Our local hospital Saint Joesph has a Lap Band Progarm and I attended the orientation, followed it thru, met the surgeon, dietician, the psych etc. Took all the requiered classes and support groups. I told myself in the begining that this was pretty drastic of a steip to lose weight but I was willing to finish up all the requirements and then make an informed descision. Besides the classes, I did alot of research online, talked with alot of people who have the Band etc. When the time came to submit my paperwork for surgery approval I was 85% ready. My approvall took only two days, a miracle they said. Well I got a quick date and the idea settled in and I started preparing myself 100 %. Our program consist of 2weeks prior, liquid protein, and 2 weeks post op, liquid protein. Those first two weeks went by and I was excited when my date came up, but still very nervous. I did not lose the entire 10 % weight loss they require before surgery, but I was down 7 lbs about, the attempt was made. When I woke up after surgery, my husvnad informed me they found a hernia and did a repair befor doing the Lap Band, I was thankful that they got it all taken care at once. I was definitely sore when I woke up, but not dying.. They like you to spend one night at the hospital and I didn't disagree with that. I was in heaven with the clear liquid broth and jello. After having protein drinks for two weeks, the broth was like heaven. They kept me the entire next day into the early evening, wanting to make sure the band was placed and not moved so I had to ungergo some flourascopy drink bariam xray. All was well, I went home.I am not going to tell you I didnt' take the pain meds, I did, every four hours at first, each day though it got better and I took less and less, now at almost 2 weeks I haven't had it but once in the last day for stomach discomfort from eating too soonnnnnnnn.Do not eat to sooooon, I cannot tell you more how a mistake that was trying to eat before I was healed. The bloated, gassy, stomach lasted over 24hrs until the food finally seemed to get thru. I was worried, I was afraid I was going to have to call my doctor and confess to get some help. Thank goodness I am feeling better today, and I will not eat another piece of food until its time next week for the pureeed foods.I am excited about the losing weight, my husband and kids are all on board, which does help...Without their support this would be hard. My 27yr old son has scoulded me more than once during this process about sticking to the plan only.... I love him for that.My daughter calls daily to check on me. Soon I will eat food again, I look foward to that. I need to learn alot about patience right now.......Good Luck to me and everyone else going thru this process, were on our way to better health....
