    December Delights 2009

"I feel like I have to burp, but nothing comes up, then I feel pain. This was worst over the last two days, but seems to be much better today: tbird, This sounds like what I'm feeling too - more so yesterday and today - than before. I described it as a 'heartburn' feeling. I'm pretty sure it's normal but will ask about it on Thursday. You're definitely on the road to recovery!

Thank you! I'll ask about it on Thursday when I have my first post-op appt. That's WAY better than the medicine I was prescribed for nausea!... which I had a hard time... umm... taking. Don't ask. You don't want to know. Anyway, thank you.

IMO, Chest pains = call your doctor... pretty much always. It could be nothing, but it could be something and if it's your chest, then there's a chance it's your heart, so it's worth the call. *As a reference (and if it helps), I stll feel a little bit of pressure when I breathe in. And it's only been over the past couple of days that I've been able to breathe-in deeply. I have yet to hiccup, but sometimes I feel like I have heartburn after I drink something too fast. Best of luck to you...

Thank you. I was slacking on my obligations there for awhile! But I'm feeling really good now. And no problem - you've been moved. Congrats on the 8 lbs! Keep up the good work! fyi - I'm on clear liquids right now and am totally fine with it - not at all hungry or missing food. This is very rare for me... but it's something you can look forward to. :sneaky:

I moved your name, so it isn't next to a date, but I didn't remove it completely. That way, when December's over, we'll still think of you and send positive thoughts your way for a successful banding...whenever that turns out to be.
  6. I'm so glad you're feeling better! And let me know how you liked the movie. .. I heard the same thing (about the kleenex), but haven't seen it yet. I went Christmas shopping today and spent way too much money. I must be feeling better, right? I'm back to my old Christmas buying habits! My incisions itch, but the pain is minimal. I actually think I'm ready to go back to work tomorrow, but think I'll stay home one more day just to be sure. Heck, maybe tomorrow I'll go and get my nails done. :)

    December Delights 2009

I quit smoking in September and saw my (second) surgeon in October for the first time. When asked if I smoked, I was honest and said, "No, I quit on September 12th". It never came up again. The night before the banding, feeling very anxious about the whole thing, I took a few drags from a cigarette (okay fine - I smoked half). I give myself the option to have half of one per day, if I need it. But not the night before surgery... that was weakness, nothing more. Anyway, I was soooooo scared that I was going to be tested the next day. As soon as I got there, they said I had to give them a urine sample. I couldn't think of why they might need that, with all my testing done and up to date. I was holding my breath til one of the nurses came over to tell me that I "wasn't pregnant." Huge sigh of relief. I haven't smoked since then and don't plan to - it's a challenge every day, especially since I had to stop taking Chantix too (per my doctor, a week before surgery because of the nausea it causes if taken without food). Anyway, that was MY experieince. Please note that all doctor's are very different.

Oh no! That's rough! I hope you stayed strong and thought about your pre-op appointment... and your band. All the holiday parties are going to be a difficult temptation. Tis the season for desserts (my personal weakness). But you're not going to care about Brownies and toffee AT ALL pretty soon here (okay, maybe small bites ) and you're wcertainly not alone. So hang in there!

    December Delights 2009

Stop me if I've shared this one with you, but on Saturday morning (surgery was Friday at noon), I got out of bed determined not to lay there all day. I didn't feel all that great, but I didn't feel all that bad either (not yet anyway). I thought it would be a good day to take out Christmas decorations and start sprucing-up the place for the holidays (very ambitious). So... my husband and eight-year-old son took-off to a get a tree while I stayed home to rest and go throught the bins looking for tree lights, etc. It occurred to me that I needed to get some walking-in, so I went out to the garage where my rarely used treadmill is, and turned it on. My husband came back in for something (gloves?)... and asked me what I was planning on doing. I said, "Honey, it's okay, remember the doctor said that walking would help with the gas pain?" He thought it was a bad idea. I kept talking, convincing him that it was good thing and eventually he just shook his head and told me to walk reeeeally slow and to get off of it if I didn't feel good cause he wouldn't be home to help me. I agreed. About one minute after I had gotten on the thing (and he had driven away), I had to jump off of it and run to the kitchen sink. I got sick. And getting sick with nothing in your stomach isn't a fun experience. I ended-up having to lay down for much of the afternoon and our eight-year-old had a field day with the Christmas decorations. I'm still cleaning-up the mess. So... I haven't been on the treadmill since (it's not time yet). And of course, when he got home I had to tell him that "he was right.... yadda yadda." If there's a moral to this story, I guess it's this: Sometimes being overly enthusiastic isn't a good thing. And sometimes I don't know everything.

So glad to remove your "tbd" and unitalicize you! I work from home on Fridays myself, and am not supposed to be working today but have my work laptop open "in the event that"...something comes up. I feel fine - better than fine. I actually feel really good today. And I'm excited about the next day and the next day and the next... But, fyi, I did feel lousy and sick and sleepy from Friday evening to Sunday evening. I guess it's a necessary evil, and relatively short-lived all things considered. No regrets. Best of luck to you!
  11. ARe you SERIOUS?! That's amazing!... YOU'RE AMAZING. Ohmygosh, I'm so proud of you! See?? You knew you could! ;) I will very happily re-update that list I just posted.

THANK YOU. I read your post at just the right time... when I was feeling really bad (sick) and seriously questioning my decision. Now I am well, looking forward to the future... motivated and inspired. Thanks again for brightening my day.
  14. Thinking of you! No worries... the surgery will be a breeze and you will feel great in no time. *You'll feel icky at first, but that will pass.

  15. I'm feeling remarkably good today (perky even), how 'bout you?

  16. I just wanted to thank you for thinking of me... it really helped knowing that. After a couple of "yucky" days (suzy's word - it totally fits :)), I feel wonderful today. *It looks like there are new December Delights, so I'll post a new list soon!

    I'm back.

  17. I just said a prayer for you Larry and I'll be thinking about you all day! Don't worry, the surgery will go smoothly. You might feel icky for a couple of days afterwards, but that will pass and you'll be on your way! Good luck and hang in there!

    Family Wedding ~ June

Great picture!... and what a little cutie pie!
  19. Thanks ali!...

I'm feeling great today. I wasn't feeling so good for awhile there... did a lot of sleeping and pretty much stayed off the board. But the worst of it is over, and all things concerned, the icky feeling went by quick. I'm excited now and looking forward to the holidays. Thank you for thinking of me. You know, for some reason, it really helps to know you're not alone.

Hi Roro, I feel pressure and tightness when I sit and lay as well. Keeping my torso stretched is the most comfortable. Standing and walking are good, if only I wasn't so pooped! I had a tiny bit of brothy soup last night, but other than that and a little lite apple juice and isopure yesterday, I haven't eaten food since Wednesday. I don't have a whole lot of energy. And I'm not hungry either (still swollen, I guess). I just can't wait to be healed. The surgery itself was no big deal - it's the recovery that's hard. If you're uncomfortbale to the point that you can't bear it, you should call your doctor. All my best to you... K

Hi Terri, There's a lot of pressure, yes. It feels like someone's pushing on my front AND back. I keep taking deep breaths in now that it's a little more comfortable to breathe deeply - its still not easy to breathe. I can drink fluids - in small sips. I've had water, crystal lite and decaf coffee. Mmm loving the warm coffee. I'm up and dressed and pulling-out Christmas decorations. But I am starting to feel a little nauseous (burping and such...? Today's supposed to be a difficult day but it's okay so far. I keep reminding myself that I was in surgery yesterday. Hang in there - it gets better, Karyn
  23. I'm home and fine though feeling a little yucky too. :) Not horrible... just yucky (good word).

  24. Everything went well. I woke-up this morning feeling a little more sore than yesterday though, so I think I'll take some pain medicine and lay down for a bit. Glad to hear everything went smoothly with you too! We're banded :)

  25. I'm good! I'm sore and I'm sleepy... but I'm banded! My back hurts (lungs, I think) and there's soreness at the incision sites, but other than that, I feel okay. It went perfectly. I'll stay in touch...
