Some doctors put a fill in during surgery. Mine did not and I lost 29 lbs before my first fill. Everyone is different. If you follow your plan you may lose weight. Don't be discouraged if you don't though because it's all about the healing process right now. Before you know it the weight will start falling off. Congratulations to you and Happy Holidays.

October 2009 Surgery Date?
Astrasmom replied to Daria77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear about your mother. As for your doctors office. Some are just in it for the money. There are few that actually care. When things calm down for you I would call them before your Feb. appointment and see if they can fit you in for a fill. Until them make sure you eat high protein foods to keep you full longer. -
Wanna get the band but nervous!

Yes it's normal because I had my fill on Dec. 3 and I still feel restriction. -

Why is your doctor making you wait so long for your first fill? It's normally 6 weeks after surgery. Some get the first fill even before that. I would call your doctor and tell him the way you are feeling. They should give you a fill sooner. -

Hi my names Dawn and I had my surgery on Oct. 23. I have lost 29lbs since surgery (as of my weigh in on Dec. 3 at the doctors. I don't weigh at home). All together I have lost 40lbs with the pre-op diet. I have dropped 3 sizes in clothing. I had my first fill on Dec. 3 and I have my second fill on Jan. 13th. I do feel restriction and most of the time I am not hungry. I try to follow my doctors plan. I weigh and measure everything except when I go out to eat. I'm sure I eat a tiny bit more then the 5oz I am supposed to but I don't over do it. Most of the time my meals that I get when I go out will last me for another 2-3 meals at home. Which is great because I take it to work with me. Over all I am feeling great. I have much more energy and I am going to the gym at least 2-3 times a week to the cardio room. I do my Wii Fit at home and I walk at least 4 miles on Sat. & Sun. Happy Holidays to everyone. -
Fills don't really hurt. A little pinch is all. Many doctors put numbing stuff on you before you get the little needle in your port. Mine didn't and it didn't hurt at all. Just a little pinch. The process takes about 5 minutes.

Your body is going through starvation mode right now. It does get easier as you go along. Keep up the good work. You are almost there. -

With the help of family and friends and by reading all that I could on here. And finally by taking with me the picture in my mind of what I will look like when I am thin again. Not to mention that I put my life in the hands of the big guy in the sky. Congratulations to you. It's normal to feel nervous. But as I keep saying it's not as bad as everyone might think it is. You will be just fine. Just think of how much better you will be in a few months. Happy Holidays to you. -
Hi everyone! I started a blog
Astrasmom replied to HiMow's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations!! And what an awesome Christmas present. It's normal to feel nervous but just to ease that fear a bit. It's not all that bad of a surgery. You will have some pain, and you will have some gas possibly. But the great thing is you have made the first step into your new life. Please keep us posted and Happy Holidays to you. -
Congratulations. Be sure to get some GasX strips incase you need them. And remember to walk as much as you can. Please keep us posted on your progress.

That's because your both feeling comfortable with each other. The motivation that I can give you alone is think of how great you would look on your wedding day to take that weight back off again and then some. Go back to controling the food. Don't let the food control you because of the stress. Take 5 minutes out of your busy day for yourself and breath. Remember this is a tool. And it's hard work. You have to keep putting in that hard work. Congratulations on the weight that you have taken off so far. That's awesome.

Can you eat a whole burger when you have good restriction?
Astrasmom replied to zuly98's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have only had 1- 2cc fill and I don't think that I could even eat that much with just a minimal amout of restriction. I think the head hunger got the best of you on that one. I wouldn't do it too often or you are taking the chance of stretching your pouch. I would call your doctor and ask them about it and see if you indeed need another fill. -

Every surgery has it's complications and risks. However being over weight has probably more dangers in itself then the LapBand surgery. -
For all of you that are on the Pre-OP diet all I have to say is HANG IN THERE. The rewards are awesome. All of the hard work really does pay off. Your almost there. Keep going. Happy Holidays to everyone

I cheated and I'm scared now. :/
Astrasmom replied to Razorgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I grew up all my life having people say "IF you eat that hamburger your going to be fat." So what it does in return is WANT me to eat that hamburger because of people constantly telling me what I should and shouldn't do. So my point being is, everyone is on the same page here. We all are here because we want to lose weight. How we get there, is our own business. We are a big family here who offers support to those that need it. The statements that others make are purely their own opinions. We are here for SUPPORT. We are not here to have people tell you "NO DON'T DO THAT." We are here to tell people, "So you made a mistake. That's ok just put it behind you and do it differently from now on." We are all human and we all make mistakes. Now anyone that can come off of heroin AND do the lapband should be applauded. That's awesome. I think you are doing a great job. Just remember "Success is in the eyes of the beholder." I wish you much success as well as everyone else. Whether your banded or pre-banded. Everyone have an awesome holiday season. -
Day 6 of 14 of my pre-op all liquid diet!
Astrasmom replied to Bobbie0918's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't sure if you were talking to me or someone else so I will answer anyway. I applogize if it wasn't for me. I was banded on Oct. 23, 2009. I have BC/BS as my insurance company an dI had to go through the 6 months of supervised diet. Which was really 6 nutrional visits. We weren't expected to lose weight but we weren't supposed to gain an enourmous amount of weight either or the insurance company wouldn't have approved us. I also had to go through 1 cardiologist visit, 1 upper endescopie, 1 pulmonary doctor, 1 phsyciatric, and a letter of support and dietary habits from my primary doctor. As for how I am doing now. I have lost 29lbs since surgery and 3 clothing sizes. I had my first fill on Dec. 3. I do feel restriction. Many people don't. I'm feeling awesome. Have WAY more energy then I did before. I go to the gym at least 2-3 times a week. On the weekends I walk about 4 miles each day. I use my Wii Fit at home. -
I started on Oct. 23, 2009. I went from a size 26 to an 18/20. Soon to move to a size 16 because I can NOT wait to be able to go into a store and pick from the normal clothing rack instead of the WOMENS sizes. It's been many years since I have been able to do that. I've already told my husband we are having a size 16 party when I get there. I've also lost 29lbs since surgery. Congratulations to you.

I am having surgery in 2 weeks and I am nervous!
Astrasmom commented on healthierdiva's blog entry in Blog 81197
Congratulations. It's normal to feel what you are feeling. It's not as bad as you might think. Just be sure to follow the plan that your doctor gives you and everything will go smoothly. You might want to get yourself some GasX strips to help with the gas pains. Make sure you walk as much as you can to help the trapped gas out of your system. I have been banded for almost 2 months now and am feeling awesome, so YES this is the best gift that you could have given to yourself. You will be amazed. Keep us posted on your progress. -
You may or may not lose the weight. I lost 25 lbs from the time of my surgery until my first visit. All together I have lost 29lbs since surgery. If you count in the pre-surgery weight I have lost 40lbs. I always feel as if I have over eaten but it's impossible because I weigh everything. Right now is your healing process. Just be thankful that you made the first step in your journey. The weight will come off as you go along. Also check your measurements because inches tend to come off faster than the weight does. Good luck to you.

Congratulations to you. I had my surgery on Oct. 23, 2009. We will save you a seat on the losers bench.

We all learn from our mistakes. You are human. This is a lifestyle change not a life change. The Lapband is not a miracle thing that is going to make you stop cheating and you aren't going to instantly drop the weight over night. It does take work, and it's not easy. It will help you on your journey though. I have learned to eat slower because I did experience that 'stuck' feeling once. It hurt and I did vomit afterwords. But it made me aware of what I did wrong so I don't do it again. You will find that you aren't able to eat as much as you did before or you will get sick. If you follow the plan that your doctor gives you then you will be a success. Just remember you ARE going to make mistakes. You ARE going to give into temptation once and awhile. Just learn from what you did and move on. Our saying is 'Everything in Moderation.' You are human. If you totally deprive yourself from every food happiness that you used to have, then you will not be successful. My surgery was on Oct. 23, 2009. I am down 29lbs and 3 sizes in clothes. I have so much more energy then I had before. This has been a life changing experience for me. One that I would gladly do all over again if I had to. Good luck to you and Congratulations.
