I can't believe...it has THAT many calories
Erin Marie replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, it's sad but true... The FDA doesn't require manufacturers to say their products have calories in it if it's under five. As a result, they will tweak their servings so they can get away with saying the magical zero. -
Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!
Erin Marie replied to Scorpioqt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Last week- 197 This week- 197 I figured as much! I got a slight unfill on the 22nd (.25) and I can eat so much easier now. This current weight isn't counting Christmas cookies from an early family dinner, lol! Oh man, when I'm bad I'm BAD. Hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful day full of family, friends and good food! -
Lolly if you are sliming and experiencing chest pain that is the definition of too tight. Being tight increases your chances of erosion and you should call the doctor's office the day they open and let them know so they can schedule a slight unfill for you, stat. I know because I was exactly where you are from October to December 22nd and though I had terrific weight loss, that is no way to live and not worth losing my band and health in the long run.

PBing is not at all like puking. Puking is the burn of bile and the heave of your entire body rejecting something liquid. PBing is like a burp. When I'm stuck, I know it immediately, but I fight it anyway. I pace; I just feel like it helps for whatever reason. I know I need to PB when swallowing my saliva increases the feeling (like I need to burp and can't). When it happens there is no bile, hence no burning, and it's painless. Just spit and the one bite I had last. And that's it. Nothing to be afraid of; maybe a little gross, but not afraid. Don't let fear hold you back from using this amazing tool to its complete potential. Talk to your doctor and nutritionist about your fears; they can answer all questions and soothe all your fears much better than I.

Banded 11/30/09 - Not full
Erin Marie replied to Dawnana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The reason why you had restriction toward the beginning of your surgery is not because you had adequate Fluid in your band. It is because of swelling from the IV fluids, the surgery itself and your initial post-op diet. Now that your body is winding down and losing weight, everything is, for lack of a better term, looser. So yes, completely normal. Unless you're experiencing persistent pain I would also bet nothing is wrong. You just need your first fill. Also, as a preemptive strike I want to let you know that your first fill will be much like your current situation. It will give you a week or two of restriction and then you will find yourself starving and finding it more difficult to make healthy choices. Just hang in there, do your best and look forward to your next fill. -
Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!
Erin Marie replied to Scorpioqt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Last week- 201.2 This week- 197.0 I'm past my halfway point AND under 200 for the first time in memory! I can hardly believe it... That being said, that's a little too much weight loss for one week. I had finals this week and I have no doubt stress accounts for half of it. Here's hoping for a more gradual week with no bounce back. Congratulations carriemc78 on also being past your halfway point! Hang in there everyone, you CAN lose weight through the holidays . -
Bones & "squishiness"
Erin Marie replied to sweetbean70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been fat since age 8 so I'm definitely experiencing the same thing! About a month ago was playing with my knees and noticed a little notch right below the knee cap. I couldn't stop poking it in wonderment. My roommate laughed at me, haha! I also love lying on my back and feeling my hip bones and ribs. I used to have to dig to feel them and now I can glide right over them. It's a nice feeling. My butt is so flabby ;__;. I almost miss my bigger, but firm, tooshie. Almost. -
Exciting news I just have to share
Erin Marie replied to Mrs.Deering's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! Isn't going down a size just the best reward? Almost better than seeing that number drop on the scale. Size 12 here you come, baby! -
What have I done to my band? Please pray for me.
Erin Marie replied to lapfish's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It sounds like you know what you need to do and what you need to be eating. Get on it! Stop cheating yourself and slowing down the healing process. This band only works when you make it work, otherwise it's useless. I know you can do it! You sound like you want to and all you need was a kick in the pants to get you started . OH. And be completely honest with your surgeon and nutritionist! If they don't know you're struggling how are they supposed to help? Let them do their jobs! -
Southern Indiana though my surgeon is in Columbus, IN. I don't mind the drive, Dr. Lee is worth it.

Gaining weight to so insurance will pay for Lap Band
Erin Marie replied to mondk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, according to my doctor and the surgeon, I needed the Lapband. And yet, for whatever reason, my insurance denied me for six months. The Center had to call in an attorney to tell them that "YES, it is medically necessary." Just like some people might say she doesn't weight enough some people were saying I was too young. But why should I wait till I'm thirty to get a procedure that would help me NOW? What I mean is... sometimes even those that really need it, even they don't get it right away, if at all. (I was 5'5" and 290 pounds when I submitted my first insurance packet. At a BMI of over 48 they turned me down, hard and flat). -

Michelle, I'm so sorry you came to this site looking for support and were met with viciousness instead. Ironic that they don't believe in karma, isn't it? Whether it's ten pounds or a hundred most people struggle with weight and I don't see how one is any more important than the other. They both have an effect. I hope everything works out for you and that one way or another, you lose your unwanted weight! Take care. -
Frustration..anybody else having surgery in Portland, Maine??
Erin Marie replied to nhverve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So wait. They scheduled surgery before you got the go-ahead from your insurance? How is that supposed to work? Yes, sometimes insurance takes a week or two and you get processed right along. Then there are cases such as mine where they rejected me for six months till the Bariatric Center got an attorney involved on my behalf. I hate to be pessimistic, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for January 15th surgery. -
I ate Nachos!! :( I'm 4 weeks post-op
Erin Marie replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, hon, you could have done much worse. My nutritionist told me about one woman who had come back for her first post-op checkup and had written down KFC Original recipe for the day RIGHT AFTER surgery. And I had been feeling guilty about eating fruit ahead of schedule! You're aware of your bad habits and what you need to do to avoid them. That's a lot more than most can say. Keep trying hard and good luck . -
Return to basics. Whenever I'm struggling, I get out my ten golden rules and check them off in my head. Am I drinking all my water, taking my suppliments, exercising, and not eating more than my alloted ounces? If I can't answer yes to even one of these, I pick it back up and within a week I see weight loss. I'm not sure if it'll be the same for you, but I'm almost positive (seeing as we do have the same first name and all that <3).

feeling like a failure
Erin Marie replied to jnic9761's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't know in whose book 55 pounds is failure. You're being way too hard on yourself. I have to ask some obnoxious questions to help you out now, so hang in there. Are you journalling what you're eating? Are you exercising? And most importantly, are you at restriction? Can you eat more than 6 ounces at a sitting? Oh! And are you getting your 64oz of fluids and Vitamins? When in doubt, when struggling, return to basics. Get out your golden rules and start following them to the letter. If doing this for two months, honest to goodness doing it, doesn't get that scale moving, I'd be shocked. -
That's all well and good, but I'd still like to see your sources for our unsustainable debt. Also, specifically, what things is the Obama administration spending money on that is unnecessary? On second thought, nevermind. You're more than entitled to your opinion, as am I. So I will continue to be happy with the direction Obama is going, debt and all.
-
That statment is hilarious considering the massive amount of money spent during the Bush administration. Spending Under President George W. Bush | Mercatus What are your sources for this unsustainable debt? And anyway, gotta spend money to make money. Any entry level business class will tell you that much. But considering that I've had friends killed in Iraq and family currently stationed, you can imagine that money and or debt is, surprisingly, not the most important issue to me :willy_nilly:.

I unfortunately can't tell you what exactly has happened but you need to go to your surgeon's office immediately and let him know. Your stomach is probably incredibly swollen at this point from all the retching and blockage and he might want to unfill you. Also all the more reason to go if it feels like slippage.
-
Way to miss the post of my post entirely. For the first time in my LIFE there is a president in office that I am proud of. I can go to a foreign country now and not pretend to be Canadian. Obama has completely put a standstill on the rapidly falling unemployment rate and has purposed and put into motion a complete revision of the healthcare system (death panels my ass, anyone who calls it a death panel didn't read the actual purposal). I am proud to be American. For me to be able to say that is incredible, because I thought my country would never make me proud until Obama.
-
I am completely still on the Obama train. I'm so proud of how he's healing our image and relations with other countries and is setting an example for everyone with his beautiful wife and girls. If he did nothing else in his administration, and I mean nothing, I would be content. But I know he's not going to stop, he'll keep pushing down walls and I will continue to proudly say I voted for him.

Pre-New Year's Resolution...No Holiday Weight!
Erin Marie replied to MrRiceGuy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Haha, well Jenibeni, I only have, like, a pound and a half to go. I think I shot so low because I'm so close to being in the 100's for the first time (in my mind). Maybe I didn't think it was actually going to happen. So, yes, things are going well. New goal is definitely 195. 6.2 pounds to go till Christmas. -
Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!
Erin Marie replied to Scorpioqt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Glad you're doing better John! Last week- 203.8 This week- 201.2 I can taste Onederland. It's so close and I'm so excited to be on the verge. Next Friday is also the day I'm done with classes for the semester, so let's make it an especially amazing day by meeting my first goal! -
Is salad a slider food?
Erin Marie replied to pookiemp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find salad to be a slider food also. I attribute it to the dressing, but I really don't enjoy them without. I can eat so much of it, it messes with my head a little. I actually try to avoid them now because I like creamier dressings and croutons are my kryptonite, I swear. It's really difficult for me to say no to those oily crunchy delicious little buggers. So yeah, slider in my opinion. Edit: And for the record, my salads usually also have broccoli, carrot, bellpepper, grilled chicken and almond slivers. It still seems like I can eat way more than I should be able to, hence why I consider it a slider. -
What do I do? In the morning I have a protein bar, high fiber cereal or a glass of 1% milk. I try to start my day with protein so I don't get hungry right before lunch and eat too quickly. For lunch I have grilled chicken and a vegetable, or pork tenderloin. There is also the stir fry option, chicken with lots of vegetable and brown rice. I might have a string cheese for a snack or a handful of unsalted almonds (like right now!) or a piece of fruit like an apple or a handful of grapes. For dinner it's much of the same as lunch. Some form of lean protein and some form of produce. I also have a starch every other day or so, like potatoes or beans. I understand how busy life can get, but try to stop eating out. They cook their meat with a lot of oil and salt so it will never be healthier than what you can make at home. The salad can even be dangerous territory... are you using the balsamic or non-creamy dressings? If not, try out some lower fat alternatives. Raspberry Vinaigrette is wonderful .
