TXSunflower: I don't have to do a pre-op diet either. I think it just depends on your doctor. Good luck!

Hi Patrick! I bought Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine. I found it on Amazon. It has lots and lots of yummy recipes! It was written by a someone who has had Lap_band, which I think is important. Welcome to LBT!

Hi everyone! I am so excited to hear about surgeries that have already happened! I'm glad to hear that everyone is feeling well, considering. It's getting me excited for my surgery. Speaking of my surgery...I had a colonoscopy and endoscpy on Thursday to try to determine where the bleeding was coming from that is causing my anemia. The doc did find a polyp (benign), internal hemorrhoids (not bleeding) and some irritation in my stomach. None of those things are causing the bleeding! So then I had to go to radiology (very loopy from the sedation drungs ha ha!) and drink barium and take a bunch of x-rays. Barium is nasty btw..it's like drinking glue. The x-rays came back normal, so we still don't know the cause of the bleeding. So now I have to swallow a pill that has a camera in it! It is called M2A (mouth to anus) capsule. It takes pictures of my intestines over a few hours and its transmitted to a monitor that i wear on my belt. Weird huh? The good news is that the doc ruled anything serious so I have scheduled my Lap-Band surgery for October 26!! Cross your fingers that everything goes well...

Thanks Julie...I'm 5'2" as well and it's nice to have the protein info for our shortness!

I bought Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine and it's more of a cookbook than informational. But it has some really tasty recipes and they're good for all stages (except clear liquids). I highly recommend that one. I also bough Exodus From Obesity by Paula Peck. She had bypass so she focuses a lot on that. But I think it did have some good info on how to work on yourself after the surgery: self-image, head hunger, exercise, eating out, etc. I do think it's a bit pricey though. Have you checked out the library?

I haven't been banded yet, so I can't give you too much advice as far as portion size. But I did find a really good cookbook that you can use in any phase (except clear liquids). It's called Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery and it's written by a woman who had had Lap-Band, which I think is important because so many books focus on gastric bypass. Here's a link on Amazon: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Eating-Well-After-Weight-Surgery/dp/1569244537/sr=8-2/qid=1159994071/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-6530083-7242308?ie=UTF8&s=books]Amazon.com: Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery: Over 140 Delicious Low-Fat High-Protein recipes to Enjoy in the Weeks, Months and Years After Surgery: Patt Levine, Michele Bontmpo-Saray, William B. Inabnet, Meredith Urban-Skuros: Books[/ame] As for being emtional, that is understandable. You've just been through a major surgery and you're starting to make a HUGE change in the way you live your life. It's stressful! But I know you'll make it through. You're lucky you have Mike there to support you; I bet he didn't realize that he hurt your feelings. Tomorrow will be better. Keep us updated on your progress!

So I went to my family doctor today to follow up on my anemia. It turns out that they found blood in my stool so now I have to go in for a colonoscopy and an upper GI scope! I was scheduled for Lap-Band surgery on October 5, but now I have to go in for this stupid scope on the 5th instead. The doc seems to think it's nothing too serious, but she wants to check it out becasue my iron is very, very low. But now I just keep thinking of these horrible diseases I could have and I'm freaking myself out! I hope things will be ok...

Pre-band worry- Will the band make me throw up???
JDru replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hi mypov! I'm not sure what to tell you about not feeling well when you don't eat. But hopefully the band will make you fee like you're full longer, so you won't be deprived. I am in SLC too! Dr. Hansen is doing my surgery on October 5. There are a few other people on here from Salt Lake too. Keep us updated on your situation and good luck on your journey! -
Hi everyone! My name is Jessica. I'm a 28 year old social worker who lives in Salt Lake City. Hopefully, I will be having the Lap Band surgery soon...I'm waiting for the insurance to approve it. I have Aetna and I've heard that they are pretty difficult to work with. I'm crossing my fingers! I'm currently at 218 pounds and I'm only 5'1". So my goal weight is between 120-130. I've already found so much helpful information on the forum! You all have such inspirational stories to tell. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Congratulations Audrey!!! That is so exciting and FAST!

That is horrible!! I'm so sorry he was such a jerk. Have you thought about the Nuva Ring? It does have estrogen in it, but it's a constant release of hormones so the side effects might be lessened for you. I've heard a lot of women like Yaz though...
-
I'm so glad you started this thread mzsmartypantz!! my surgery is scheduled for october 5...two weeks from tomorrow! I have a pre-op nutrition class on Sept 27 and final consult with the surgeon on Sept 29. It almost doesn't seem real.
-
Audrey: I'm excited that we will be going to the same place. You'll have to keep me updated on your insurance approval!
-
I'm not in Idaho...but I am in Utah (Salt Lake City). Welcome to the board, it is a great resource!
-
the patch has 2 hormones: estrogen and progestin. the mirena IUD only had progestin so people who do not do well on the patch (or pills or the ring) seem to do better with mirena since it doesn't have estrogen. estrogen is the hormone that usually gives people the most common symptoms (bloating, moodiness, nausea). hope that helps!
-
i don't have an IUD, but i used to work at planned parenthood and the mirena IUD was very popular. it definitely lightens the flow of your periods, but you might have some irregular bleeding in the first few months. i think you will be happy with it!

Hi Audrey! I'm in Salt Lake too...my surgery is scheduled for Oct 5 with Dr. Hansen. I have Aetna (managed care, not HMO) and they approved my in about 2 1/2 weeks after eveything was submitted. I submitted as much info as possible because I was so afraid of a denial. I was surprised how fast it was! I've heard United Health Care usually covers lap-band here in Utah. Good luck! Jessica

Congrats! I'm scheduled for October 5th. I'm a little bit nervous, but WAY more excited!!
