I waited about a month and I've been fine with wine and martinis. No beer though, my doc says absolutely NO carbonation.

I actually haven't had any tacos yet, but I did have a burrito for lunch the other day (pre-fill). My fill was 1.2 cc in a 4 cc band. Today was my first day back on solid food and I was able to eat a half of a turkey wrap (wrap was more like a tortilla) and a salad with no problems. I still have to remind myself to eat more slowly and take smaller bites. I've heard that some fills can take a week or two to actually start working...maybe that's my problem?? I'm definitely eating less than I was last week and I'm not as hungry. Even before my fill I could eat anything...bread, dried fruit, any kind of meat. We'll see what happens...

I have been fine with lettuce so far. I had a fill on Monday and I feel some restiction. I can still eat about a cup or so at a time, but I feel full for longer periods. Everyone is doing awesome! Don't worry about stalling a few weeks out. I was stuck for 2 weeks and now with my fill I've already lost 3 pounds. Keep up the good work!

Welcome to LBT Cathy! Good luck getting your surgery approved.

Kristi I had my first fill yesterday and it's been fine. I haven't had a feeling of getting stuck or a PB, just feel fuller for a longer period of time. You'll be just fine!

That really sucks about your unfill Jodi, but hopefully they will find out if your galbladder is ok. Let us know!

I have Aetna as well and my policy didn't require having a comorbidity for a certain amount of time, just that I had some. I have Aetna Managed Choice, which seems to cover more than Aetna HMO. I also had my primary care doc write a letter that said she supported and recommended Lap-Band and that I had several comorbidities. Good luck!!

I would definitely get a copy of the specific criteria your insurance requires in order for the surgery to be medically necessary. And when you call the insurance company be sure to make a note of the date and who you talked to in case you have to fight them later. My insurance wanted a medically supervised diet for at least 6 months. I had been doing that loosely for over 2 years with my primary care doc. All I did was send in my records that suggested I eat low carb or that we talked about weight loss and prayed that they would accept it. Luckily, that was all that was needed as far as the diet. I have Aetna, but I'm sure that all insurances are different so make sure you get eveything (and then some) together before you submit it to your insurance. Good luck!

"is it normal" please help!!!
JDru replied to MELANIE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first three days were the worst for me and it took about a week to start feeling better. Each day gets a little better, you just have to make it through the tough early days. Let us know how you're doing! -
So I had my first fill today and it was pretty painless. Since I haven't had any problems eating anything and I'm hungry they gave me 1.2cc. I'm just on liquids tonight so I can't really tell a big difference yet. We'll see over the next few days...
-
I have my first fill today too! Mine is in about and hour and half. We'll have to compare notes. I'm definitely NOT restricted and I'm eating too much lately. I'll let you know how it goes...

Organic Food Lables (Poll for school paper)
JDru replied to soniacan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I always buy organic dairy products, sometimes veggies and fruits if they're on sale. They definitely taste better and I feel like I'm helping the farmers by buying stuff with fair trade label. I remember seeing the USDA label, but I don't look for it specifically...just if it says "organic". I should start looking more closely! I also try to buy things without hydrogenated oils so I find them at Wild Oats. We don't have a Whole Foods out here yet, soon I hope. -
I use Benefiber in my oatmeal or protein drinks and it seems to help. Good luck!

Family thinks my surgery will "ruin" Christmas
JDru replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
By a week after surgery I was doing much better than the first few days. I went to a wedding exactly a week after and I was ok...the only problem I had was sitting for a long time hurt my incisions. You will have a great Christmas! -
Good luck with your research! This site is a great resource for information and support.

The first 3 days were really hard for me...lost of pain and nausea. I didn't have dry heaves though. I was on clear liquids for the first 5 days and by the 5th day I was not OK with drinking another mug of broth. Ha ha! But as I was able to add pudding, creamy soups and yogurt I felt a lot better. Just hang in there for a few more days and you will start to feel better. By a week after my surgery I was feeling much better and 2 weeks out I was almost 100%, I just didn't have a lot of energy. I hope you feel better!

That is great progress!! Keep up the good work.

When you call the insurance...what do you say?
JDru replied to Plusizeteen's topic in Insurance & Financing
Like ReneBean said, your insurance may cover lap-namd generally, but make sure that it is covered under your specific benfits. My insurance didn't ask for a CPT code. The person I talked to looked up the specific criteria for people who qualify for bariatric surgery. I have Aetna and they required certain blood tests, BMI of at least 35 with co-morbidities, psych test, nutritionist eval and a medically supervised weight loss program for at least 6 months. I also had to get copies of a lot of medical records and that was the most difficult thing. I swear it's like pulling teeth to get records. Also, make sure you make a note of the date you called and who you talked to in case you have any problems with approval later on.
