  1. Well, tomorrow morning I am scheduled to get banded. I am getting anxious, but excited as well. I am excited to get started on my new life! I am hungry today on the pre-op diet, but wonder how you all felt hunger-wise post-op? I am talking before mushies. I will be on Clear liquids only a week after the surgery, add Protein shakes the next week, and mushies on the 3rd and 4th weeks. I am nervous about how I will feel. Thank you all for your support and answers! Have a wonderful day!

Thanks everyone. Feeling a bit less anxious now!
  4. So, I went for my pre-op yesterday and the aftercare nurse brought up something that I had not heard much about. She said that rarely some patients cannot drink after surgery and have to come in daily for fluids, or worst case scenario, be admitted. She said, and the doctor confirmed, that this is due to greater than normal swelling in the esophagus. :bored: Have any of you experienced this and if so, how long did it last?
  5. Wow, I can't believe it! I went to my first seminar last night and called the office this morning to speak with the insurance representative to see what I needed to do next. I have United Healthcare, and apparently all I need to do is get the letter of medical neccessity from my PCP and my weight five years ago in order for her to be able to submit for approval. She said that United is typically very quick with approvals for my doctor's office, and that she felt confident going ahead and setting me up for a tentative surgery date of 11/30/09! I am excited, anxious, and nervous all in one! I am going for my pysch consult Thursday and am waiting on the dietician to call me back. I know that then I will also be receive an e-mail with a ton of other appointments to go to, including pre-op with the surgeon. Phew! So, I guess that I will plug on and work on my prerequisites and hope that everything goes as planned with insurance. I am just a bit stressed, but not in a bad way. I guess that I did not expect to get moved along so quickly, but that is a good thing!
  6. Hello! My name is Heather Branson and I am now just starting to think seriously about getting Banded. I have found this site quite informative and all of you are so kind to offer your experiences. So, thank you. :crying: I will be attending my first seminar on November 5th. After exploring this site, I am wishing that it was sooner! I have done some research, and luckily my insurance does cover the procedure, 90% in network. I couldn't ask for any better than that after reading the trials some of you have been put through. Looking forward to going through the "journey" on this forum... Have a great day and good luck! - Heather

Newbie - 10 days post op!

    Welcome, Jessica! Best of luck!
  12. I am in the very preliminary stages, but have done research on my insurance coverage. I have United and they will cover 90% of all related surgery costs. I will have my regular co-pays ($30 for specialists), and will likely pay $1,200 out-of-pocket for the surgery. I can definitely live with that!

    The Pretty Face

Hi Tina! I feel your pain, honestly. I am so tired of being told what a pretty face I have. I know, I should be thrilled. It is a compliment afterall, right? But to me it just feels like they may as well be saying "you have such a pretty face, Heather. But the rest of you...". It feels so degrading. I so long for the day when someone tells me "You are pretty" or "you are beautiful", and "face" can be left out because I am a "normal" size. Good luck to you! Keep your chin high and stick to it. I know you will do awesome! - Heather
  14. Hi! I saw a post that you made and see that we are both in our 20s and trying to lose about the same amount of weight. You look great! I would love to hear about your journey. I go to a seminar on November 5th, so I am still probably far off in the process. Best of luck to you!
