I am a small business owner, and I am lucky to have insurance. I'm not saying that everybody who does not have insurance is sitting in their butts. I'm merely frustrated at the people who are too lazy to get a job that will take advantage of this program, and that us taxpayers who do work (including those who can't afford insurance) will be paying for the lazy ones.

I ride and show American Saddlebred horses. Every time I get on my horse, I automatically sit up straight like I am supposed to. And I even walk with my back straight. But why is it that when I sit down I don't sit up straight? lol

How long did it take?
TN_girl21 replied to sandralee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a self pay also. My seminar is Tuesday (YAY!!!), so it shouldn't be too long until my surgery? A friend of the family had the band done by the doctor I'm going to. She went to the seminar and 3 weeks later had her surgery. She set her surgery date up at the seminar. Has anyone else done that? -
Getting Banded 12-4-09, New to this site, Looking for some advice

Rachel, I am close your age so I thought I would give my opinion on telling people. I am not scheduled for surgery yet, but I am a self pay and have my seminar Nov 10 (hope to have it before Christmas!). I have told my closest friends, my parents, and my husband, and my mother-in-law & father-in-law. I have had one negative response. And it was from someone I didn't expect it from. She seemed to be very disgusted by the fact I was resorting to WLS. Oh well, she is skinny and doesn't understand. Otherwise, everybody else is so happy for me! To be honest, I can tell a difference in myself because I know that soon I will be starting a brand new life. You will know in your heart who you really want to tell. Trust me, I want to shout it out, but I know not everybody understands. lol That's why I stuck to certain people. I'm sure you and I both will have huge success!!! Good luck!!!!! -
I'm full of questions, but I know someone can answer this for me. lol I'm going to be a self-pay. I'm wondering, from any of you who self paid, how fast did all of your appointments go and how fast you were scheduled for surgery?

I am also using him. If you didn't already know, if you go to Memorial in Chattanooga to have your surgery by him, it is not an outpatient surgery. But if you have it done in Dalton, it is an outpatient surgery. Just some info for ya! :blushing:

I think I would be able to resist all the food during the holidays. My reason is because I am in the process of opening an upscale shoe boutique in my town, and we shouldn't have any merchandise coming in at that time, so I won't have to worry about lifting any boxes.

Thanks yall! I have my seminar on November 10 and then I make the first appointment with the doctor. Let me ask your opinion...I am thinking about having the surgery right after Christmas so I am not down for the holidays. What's yall's opinions?

The "pretty face" comment will always be the one of the most hated comments of overweight people. I know it's one of mine! And yes, people who are not overweight do not understand totally why we are getting the LAP BAND. I know some people can do it with diet and exercise, but that's not for everyone. I know I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, so it is hard for me to lose weight. I am 5'6 and right under 250 lbs. I don't mind taking pictures, but then I see them and I'm like "ugghhh..I'm such a fat cow". Tina, you will do great on your journey! Just keep telling yourself that you are beautiful, everything about you is beautiful!

I am going to a seminar on November 10. I have to before I can make an appointment with the surgeon. My question is I weigh 250, and I'm 5'6. I am pre-diabetic, insulin resistant and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Do you thinkI will qualify?

I hope it all goes fast. I wish I was having the surgery tomorrow! haha Cathy, I have been to Conyers many times. I show horses, and come to a horse show there every year in September!

What to tell family and friends about your decision for WLS
TN_girl21 replied to bandstarr430's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been to a surgeon yet (just now signed up for a seminar). But some people already know. My husband is so very supportive! And my mom is supporting me (and paying for it! I thank God for her every day!), and my dad is understanding too! I'm going to tell my sister, and probably just my 3 best friends (because I know they can keep secrets)! I'm wanting to keep mine private because I am from a very well known family in my town. And another well known man in my town had it done, made it known, and people laughed about it. I do not want to put myself through that. Maybe once I've lost quite a bit of weight, I will confess that I have the LAP BAND or I may not. lol -

Thanks, kiz! I'm so excited for this journey! And yes, I am so so blessed that my mom is doing this! I don't know how I will ever thank her enough!

My insurance plan doesn't cover anything with obesity. So luckily, my mom has agreed to pay for it! I'm so thankful! The BMI calculator says it is 40.
