I'm Fricken Freaking out! I was banded 12/4, lost 11 pounds in two weeks, and now I feel no restriction! I went to my 2 week follow-up, and my doc said not to worry, and that when my band is filled on 1/17 I will feel a difference. I'm still freaking out! I can eat! The only issue is that I get the hiccups everytime I eat. I don't want to GAIN weight! Help! I feel like I could still eat. I don't feel like eating bad, in fact all I crave is Chicken. But I did this so I could feel in control, and now I'm not so sure. Am I crazy?

I'm so excited! I was banded 12/4, 6 days ago, and I've lost 8 pounds already! Amazing! I wasn't required to lose any weight before the surgery, so these are my first pounds lost! I have really had such an awesome experience. I was back to work Tuesday, 4 days after being banded (I'm a nurse), and I feel great. I was supposed to stick to a liquid diet for two weeks, but yep I'm a rebel and started solid food after 4 days. I've been able to tolerate it fine. I never had any nausea at all either. I took the pain meds for 3 days, and then just tylenol. And I only had to be on liquids starting 2 days before surgery. I really am sorry for those who have a had a harder time, but I want others to know that it's not always that way. Initial Consult, Psych Consult, Nutrition Consult, EKG, labs..............10/16/09 Banded.........................................12/4/09 Starting BMI 40 Staring Height - 5'3" Starting Weight - 225 Currently - 217 lbs

Forgot one thing.......A few coworkers who have been banded told me that I wouldn't be hungry or even care about eating right after the surgery. WRONG! Seriously, as soon as I got home I felt like eating Mcdonalds. Didn't of course, but I still get hungry. Hopefully when I get to solids, I won't feel this way. I'm not digging the liquid diet at all.

I was banded Friday, 12/4 and I'm doing good. It took me a bit to find a comfortable position to sleep the first night, but found one thankfully. Two pillows under my head and one under my knees. And thank goodness for Vicodin! I had a little left shoulder pain on Saturday, but mostly just soreness on my tummy. Today has been a bit of a challenge, as I've had the gas pains in my chest. Feels like I have to burp. My hubby went out and got me gas pills, which help a little. I've been overdoing it a little too (cleaning, decorating), cuz I feel pretty good. It catches up to you for sure. I've been taking long naps, and watching lots of TV. As for eating, it's soups and protein drinks. I bought the Isopure fruit punch, but I don't like it at all. Sticking to EAS with 17gms of protein, yum! The surgery was a breeze, and the incisions are so small! I too had a hiatal hernia repair, which I didn't know I had. I'm staying home tomorrow, but my plan is to go back to work Tuesday....we'll see. Now my journey really begins!

My surgery date is December 4th, yay! I had my initial consultation on October 16th which included the psych and nutrtional eval, my paperwork was submitted to my insurance company (UHC) on 11/9/09, and I got a call 11/17/09 that I was approved. my BMI is exactly 40 with no co-morbidities. I was shocked at how quickly it happened. I'd heard about the 6 month wait, etc. but there's no wait. I am so excited. Current wt 225lbs Goal wt 130lbs
  7. I'm new to this site, and my surgery date is December 4th, yay! I had my initial consultation on October 16th, my paperwork was submitted to my insurance company (UHC) about a week ago, and I got a call yesterday that I was approved. my BMI is exactly 40 with no co-morbidities. I was shocked at how quickly it happened. I'd heard about the 6 month wait, etc. but there's no wait. I just wanted to share my experience with UHC, so others won't be discouraged. Good luck to you all.
