Well I will be all done and back home by January 23 just a month from now. Its all very real now, plane tickets booked, pre diet worked out and nerves starting to make themselves known. Hope to drop 10 lbs before heading to Juarez, Mexico.

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

We have the same day !!! I am going to fly from Cayman to El Paso on the 20th and will check in that night to the hospital. The will do the procedure on the 21st. I am a little lighter than you at 250 and 58 years old but I know exactly what you are talking about. I really want to use this as my guide for future life. Had a ball most of my life and it shows but time to get into control for the rest of my hopefully long life.

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Hi Con B You know it is so true that once you make the actual commitment and get your date you start to freak out about what you are giving up. At the same time you give yourself a little break from the low carb diet or the exercise because mentally you are soon going to have a miracle cure to being fat. No matter how fat. Whoa. I caught myself sliding on the weekend with some "favorite foods" thinking its okay whats a couple of pounds .......... REALLY ..... that can't work. So I guess it goes right back to why I have been fat for 30 years ........ I always give myself too much leeway, permission for too many second courses and of course my worst enemy: gobble it down fast it tastes so good ..... woops bloated again. I can't imagine a half cup meal that you spend 15 minutes eating. I have tried the chewing to literally liquid .... to see what it is like and the gravy got cold !! That is going to take some practice ......... so start early. But I really want this to work and I am going to do what ever it takes. I remember quiting smoking after 40 years and so many "attempts" that just did not stick. Not enough will power .. sound familiar. Then one day, after I had to start cpap for sleep apnea, I decided to use every tool I could get my hands on to quit smoking. I did the patch, the pills and the gum all at once and all I could get on and in me. It still took tremendous control ........ like going to play golf without your buddy or losing your friend, your comfort after a stressful day. After 4 months of persisting it finally worked and that is how I feel about the lap band ........ it is all the tools at once provided I stick with the program. I know it will work. So hang in there and make the effort every day to stay focused on control. We only have two months to go !!!!!!!!!!!! and soon the wonder of science will give us the tool to make it over that hump if that is where we really and truly want to go. I am sure you want the same thing I do.

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

I am getting banded in Juarez Mexico at Hsopital Angeles on January 21, 2010. I am 58 and diabetic with sleep apnea so I really need to do this for a number of reasons but mostly I think I want to do it for me. I have struggled with weight for 25 years and when I quit smoking in 2005 I gained another 30 pounds substituting mint ice cream for Kools. That is when I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. I used to be able to take off about 10% of my body weight with strict diet and excercise and then say okay I am in control but as I get older it seems to much harder and lately not working at all. I love to "gobble down" a good juicy steak with a rich Cab Sav and I am scared sh.......... less about giving that up or going to the tiny portions but I will be sixty in two years and need to be back in shape and healty so "here goes". Would love to stay in touch as we go through.
  8. I am new to lap band discussion so don't know if this is a proper enquiry but here goes. Has anyone had the procedure done in Hospital Angeles in Juarez? I am self pay and planning on going to Mexico. I have to travel from Cayman Islands so I'm looking for easiest connection location for operation and fills. The Houston to El Paso air flights are fairly straight forward so looking at Juarez. The surgeon is Dr. Arturo Valenzuela Zorilla but I can't find out much from Google on him so thought I would see if any one out there has been to that facility. I appreciate any feedback. Thx.

    Well here goes.

I am seriously considering Hosptial Angeles in Juarez just across from El Paso. But I am certainly open to suggestions.
  10. I am going to do it. I am 58 and have med problems and 100 lbs over weight and I know it can all be much better if I lose the weight. Been trying to do that for many years. Just never get full. I am self pay ...... has anyone had it done in Juarez Mexico?

    Well here goes.

Thank you for your input. I have really thought about this quite a bit and the reality is that no matter where I get the band done it will cost me to travel for either medical attention and for fills. When you live on an island any kind of specialized medical treatment typically involes travel and expense. That was part of the reason to check out the Mexican connection. If I have to do six fill trips it will cost me about a $1,000 bucks a pop for airfare and fill and hotel to stay over to make sure it is not too tight. But I am going to have to do that anyway even if I go to Miami or Tampa or Houston for the band and then follow up. It certainly does make financial and really practical sense to me to go to Mexico ........... I am only wondering if the health care is up to standard. Thank you again for having taken the time to give me your advice. Bandit

    Well here goes.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. My problem is I live in the Cayman Islands so there is no up the street option. No matter where I go the flight cost is going to be high so it is kind of tough.
