Acanthosis Nigricans....Anyone else have/had it?
jahair replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
MyPOV, You have certainly got a lot on your plate! I did a quick little search for information and found two links that might give you more information. The summary is: the symptoms might fade if the pre-diabetic condition is managed Very little weight loss can move a person out of the pre-diabetic arena Click here: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: Acanthosis nigricans Click here: NDEP | Diabetes Prevention If you are in the pre-banding stage, you probably have been encouraged to lose as much weight as you can before you get banded. It will be difficult. (I know, that's why we are all banded!), but the incentive of lightening the "dirty neck" area could possibly be used as a incentive. Please check back in, I'm very eager to hear about your progress. Jo Ann -

Tamiko, Ditto to all who tell you to get away from this woman as soon as possible. Tell her nothing more personal about your life than, "looks like rain today." I like to think the best of our fellow humans, unfortunately, there are people who get themselves into a competitive mind set and it all becomes a game where they only win if they can make you lose. You are taking big steps in managing your life and getting yourself together. Turn your face to the sun of a new life and your steps upward and onward and don't look back. Best wishes, Jo Ann

Wheetsin, your co-worker told you true, but check to see if the store you are thinking of has the sizes that will work for you. And if you have anything more than a wide and flat rear end be sure to go up a size. Someone made a suggestion that you get them on E-bay where it is cheaper, but if you need them for Monday, you won't have that much time to wait. Lane Bryant does carry them. I don't where you are located, so here's the link to other retailers that carry the brand. A quick call will let you know if they have plus sizes. Click here: SPANX - Retailers Best of luck! Jo Ann

What a lovely thing to hear! I'll bet you looked like a cat that has fallen into a plate of fresh cream and those words had to be music to your ears and heart. Congratulations! Jo Ann

Spivak and Spiegal - Tell me more
jahair replied to cpbaby's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Deede, First my sympathy for all you and your daughter have had to go through. You've been scared so many ways it is not funny! I can only imagine your stress levels. Here's what I would do if this was my child/young adult. I would not contemplate another band for her unless two things happen: She gets into therapy with someone who is experienced in counseling young people about food issues. She needs better insight into what is triggering her self destructive actions. She finds a way through part time work to pay for a portion of the new band. If it were my child I would want to see her show some ownership of the new band by making a contribution on her own behalf. I can't presume to tell you what you must do with your family, I can only let you know what would be important for me. I hold you and your family in prayer. Please let us know how things are going. I was cleaning out my files and came across this beautiful tribute to aging parents. Mine are both in their early-mid 80's and I am so grateful to still have them. Enjoy! Click here: PARENTS' WISH Jo Ann

I hid from my family for the first 4 days at meal time, because whatever they were eating made me very queasy. Eventually. it passed. With regard to the roller coaster emotions, don't underestimate the long lasting effects of the anesthesia. Remember, we were put under "general anesthesia" and it is a BIG deal to the body. You might find that your memory is worse than usual, that your emotions are very close to the surface, etc. Best of luck and don't hesitate to call on us if you need support. Jo Ann

It's going slowly for me 7 pounds so far. While trying not to get discouraged, I've decided to focus on getting my Water in and exercise time. I'm wondering if solid food will allow me to get enough Protein in at one time to have the slooooow release until the next time to eat? Right now, I get hungry in about 3 hours. Jo Ann

Yes, the difference between bake and broil on the electric oven is which heating elements glow (top or bottom). Your advice to your BW is correct. Good luck, Jo Ann

I went looking -- according to one site the product is discontinued, but another site shows they have some: When you open the page, click up on the top right corner where it says "view all products" Click here: St. Ives - Popular Brands Good luck and I hope this helps. Jo Ann

I cold turkeyed in 1980 at one pack a day. Two things really helped -- I never told myself that today I'm quitting -- the anxiety would get too high to manage. Instead, on that fateful day...I never had the first one of the day. The other thing that helped was something I heard or made up...the strong urge/craving to smoke only lasts 4 minutes at a time. If you can hang on for 4 min. the urge will pass. For the first couple of days those 4 min. urges seemed to come right on top of each other, but I just asked myself to hang on for 4 min. They began coming farther apart and soon after, I knew I had made it. Best wishes on quitting! :clap2: Jo Ann

Howdy from the TexasBandito

Way to go Joe! I live in Sugar Land and was banded in late Aug. Not much happening with the scale right now. I keep telling myself this is the healing period. But happy to hear about your progress. Jo Ann -
Awesome! I can't wait. I just wear slip ons.

Spivak and Spiegal - Tell me more
jahair replied to cpbaby's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
This was exactly the kind of thing I feared when I couldn't even coordinate the dates of the information seminar with Spiegal's office. I was afraid that if they couldn't get that straight what would communication be like if there were a problem? Thank God her mother was willing to do what was necessary to get her treated!
