I have been obese since age 12 or so and morbidly obese since age 20 (I am currently 51 yrs. old). I reached my maximum wt. of 420 lbs. in 1997 and when my local hospital (where I happened to be an RN & had worked for 18 yrs.) started a LapBand program. I thought about it for a while, then decided to "go for it" and contacted the coordinator and attended my 1st informational meeting to learn more about the program. Things progressed well, and I decided to apply as a candidate. The insurance my hospital provided denied this surgery at the time (1997 - Blue Cross & Blue Shield has since begun to pay for these bariatric procedures) so I made a major life decision and decided to cash out my 401K and pay for it in cash (end total about $20,000.00 total out of my pocket..). My surgery was in Sept. 2007 and I have lost a total of 220 lbs. - well I had. I have been having a terrible time recently (won't go into details but financial/work problems have made the last yr. pretty horrible) and I have gained about 35 lbs. back. I no longer have insurance so I haven't been to myDr. in almost a yr. and I obviously need a band adjustment so I can resume my wt. loss & get back on the right trail.
