My twin sister had the lap band surgery about 3 years ago. At teh time we were similar body shapes.  I was not interested in such a "drastic" way to lose weight.  Still thought I could do it on my own.  After seeing her awesome results I started thinking more and more about it.  I knew it wasn't going to be easy but I thought it was something I needed to do for my health.  The company I worked at did not pay for weight loss surgery until you could prove for two years that you had tried other avenues. (Very odd because I worked for Covidien which is one of the companies that manufacture the lap bad!) I ended up leaving the company and the new company insurance covered the procedure but the company would not be understanding about all the time that wuld need to be missed for pre op appointments, tests, counseling, etc.  As unusual as it would sound the best thing that could happen to me was to get laid off from that company!  I couldn't find a new job so decided to look into the surgery!  I was carrying my insurance thru COBRA and spent the summer going thru the approval process.  I was still unable to fnd a job due to the economy so I decided to go back to school fulltime.  I ws able to complete the surgery process, have the procedure done and only missed one day of classes.  I have not had my first adjustment but have lost almost 20 pounds in the month since the surgery was done.  I am blessed to have my sister be my HUGE cheerleader.  She answers questions and I know a lot of what to expect because I went thru her surgery with her. I have nothing but great things to say about the surgery and I hope the 20 pounds are just the beginning!
