- Wow. Your story is very compelling and interesting. A fighter. wow for you girl. I had my surgery last Wednesday. I had a little struggle with my blood pressure in the HP. couldn't keep the liquid down. It is all good now. Found out I was sick due to the pain meds. I got on the scale today, am down 8lbs. I am still on a soft diet. I hate mushy vegetables, but squash tastes great. I feel good physically. Have several holes in my stomach. the wrap came off fo one today and it is healed. So I am on the road to recovery. I went outside for a walk today. It is cold but it felt good. I am just looking forward to getting the weight off. I want to loose 80 lbs. The Dr said 70, but, It is mydecision. I will see when i get there. I started at 228. Keep in touch, Mary.

Margarita,
I am preparing for the diet. Is your big day still the 11th? What is a good liquid drink? I have not liked many I have tried.

Where are you? I mis-understood you. I thought you lived in NY. Utah is one of my favorite places. I cannot imagine living anywhere more beautiful. I am just getting to hate the winter. It has been very cold and windy the past few days. Miserable and snowy. Skiers will love it.
Tell me how much weight do you want to loose. My Doctor recommends I loose about 70 lbs. I am thinking more along the lines of 80.
How old is your child and is it a boy or girl?

Part III:
The great thing about bypass that worked for my mom is that it tends to "cure" your diabetes. Because she cannot absorb most of the nutrients, sugar, nor fats my mother diabetes disappeared.
I'm not diabetic nor do I have any comorbidity so I chose the less drastic solution. If I did have diabetes or high blood pressure I would have chosen bypass. Either way its a tool. You have to choose the right tool for you.

Part II:
My biggest problem is portion control. I eat pretty healthy but I just consume soooo much food because I am always hungry. So I need to be restricted. Lap-Band?? restricts you from consuming too much and too fast. Yeah, it's slower weight-loss for your body but its better that way if you have a lot of weight because it gradually comes off and gives you time to tone and build on muscles. With Bypass it's restrictive and does not allow the food to absorb most of what's eaten, thereby, you'll have to make sure you take vitamins. I am also vain--I did not want to lose my hair nor have a scar.

Part 1:
Hi Mary
I was the same way 2 weeks ago. I had decided that I was doing the gastric bypass but I could not sleep. My mother had it and it was successful for her but something told me that I am taking a bigger risk than I need to. I have baby boy and I couldn't imagine something happening and I'm not there for him. With any surgery runs risk but the cutting and re-attaching scared me. I kept thinking about how invasive it was. I search youtube and came across skymoon (something like that). She was motivating and lost a lot of weight with the lap-band?.

Hello Alice, I am trying to decide for sure between the band and bypass. I have to make my final decision by Monday. Surgery scheduled for the 11th of Nov. I am not comfortable with such a drastic measure such as bypass. Would you do it again? Is it comfortable. How do you like having the port? Mary.

Hi,
got your message. I am having a struggle. I can't decide if I want the band or bypass. I am very nervous about the bypass. There is a slight mortality rate. That concerns me. I am going to give them the final answer on Monday. I am almost sure it will be the band. Less invasive. Have a great day. Mary

Hi Mary,
Thank you for commenting on my blog. This is exciting. I am starting my liquid diet on October 26, 2009. I am glad to come across someone who is being banded in the same month as me. Keep in touch.
BTW I'm 28 years old.
