  1. Returning back to work wasn't bad at all. I took it pretty easy for the 1st two days back. I will tell you that I thought I was going to die on the 1st day, but that was because of my bra. So I'm telling you right now, wearing a bra afterwards may be a painful thing because of the pressure on your upper abdoment. After I "unsnapped", I was a brand new woman. So far so good. I'm on the next food phase and made myself some homemade chicken soup. TASTE LIKE HEAVEN !!!

  2. Everyday is getting a little easier.

I bought a rotisserie chicken last night, cut a few pieces and put them in the blender. Who knew that pureed chicken and thin mash potatoes could taste so-o-o-o-o good.

I've lost 14lbs since 8-20-10. Even though, I can't exercise alot, I've found that if I walk just 30 min a day while on this liquid/mushie phase, the scale just keeps moving in the RIGHT direction. Yeah, ME !!!

  3. Brina: Do you exercise? If so, what do you do and how often?

  4. msdeneen2004

    8/2010. About 209lbs.

Brina, you look absolutely MARVELOUS !!!
  5. I hear ya. At one time, I was more mortified about having the EGD versus the actual surgery. It was fine. You really don't feel a thing. You'll be under local anesthesia. Your throat may feel a little funny afterwards, but you'll be fine !!!

Anyone used Dr. Titus Duncan in Atlanta?

I finally had my surgery on Aug 20th. My entire experience with Real Results and Dr. Duncan has been AMAZING !!! I would recommend him to ANYONE. He thinks of everything up front. It's been 5 days and I have not had ANY problems, no throwing up, no problems with swallowing, etc. I am sore where I was punctured. But those punctured areas look fabulous in comparison with other people's incisions/punctures that I've seen. Again, based on all the stories I've read from other people from around the country, it would be worth flying in from anywhere just to have Dr. Duncan performed the procedure. ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS !!!
  7. You're funny !!! I'm actually doing ok. I'll be returning to work tomorrow. Two things have helped me: I found a GNC protein shake mix with 52 grams of protein in it and the protein really does help in keeping the hunger pangs in check. The other thing, and probably most important: A friend of mine gave me a divine word: "Don’t let your flesh try to sabotage what God has given you to help you get healthy. You are a strong and determined woman. Each time you drink when you really want to eat tell yourself you are worth the sacrifice because you are. Remind your body that your spirit man is in control now. She makes the choices that will produce the greatest reward (health) and give you the long life you desire.

After reading that, I was truly inspired to hang on a little while longer. Hope that will inspire you as much as it did ME !!!

From the album: 6-Month Pre Op

  9. Revolver: I just personally wanted to say welcome and to tell you that the 6 mos will pass before you know. I remember being where you are in January and thinking 6 mos is so far away and I finally had my surgery on Aug 20. One of the things I did EVERYDAY was visited this site to read the stories of others to keep me motivated during the 6 mos. Hang in there, it will be worth it !!!!
  10. Hi fellow August Bandster, always exciting to meet new friends along this new found journey. As much as I love my doctor, I wouldn't mind having yours right about now to advance me on. Even though this yogurt I just ate seems to be very satisfying at the moment. The other motivator is that I've lost 12 lbs since last Friday.

Let's definitely keep in touch. Hope to be celebrating "our" success stories REAL SOON.

  11. Msscaramel, I've been on this journey since January 2010. I had to undergo a 6 month nutrition consultation, etc. Needless to say, I got thru all of that and had surgery this past Friday, 8-20-10. I'm still excited about my decision. I have not had ANY issues. I'm able to swallow, no throwing up, no pain other than what's expected as the incision sites. I've been walking since day 1. The only struggle I have right now is this liquid phase. Today is really hard, but I have to remind myself of the importance of healing properly so I won't have any issues. Lost 10 lbs since Friday, so that's encouraging. Stand by your decision, I don't think you'll regret it. When I turned 39 last year, that was my IT'S ALL ABOUT ME moment. Do the same and I'm sure we'll both be successful. Stay in Touch !!

    August Rush in bandland!

Day 3 Post-Op and all is well. No major issues at all. However, I am STARVING. Having a soft scrambled egg right now would taste like steak. However, doctor's office said NOT YET. I am really struggling. The 1 motivator, I've lost 10 lbs since Friday's surgery. I know it's because I'm starving, but still seeing the scale go in the opposite direction is a very welcomed changed !!!
  13. Brinabrina, thanks so-o-o much for the encouragement. And you are correct, I'm about ready to kill just to have a scrambled egg. However, losing 10 lbs since Friday is somewhat of a motivator, even though I know it's due to starvation. I have to remind myself of the importance of the liquid diet and that's to "heal properly". I looked at your before/afters and I'm amazed by your progress. Keep moving forward and chat soon !!!

  15. Your profile is so-o-o-o encouraging. I've been banded now for 3 days. Looking forward to more of your progress !!

  16. Wow, thanks for the encouragement. What post-op diet did your doctor provide?

    August Rush in bandland!

I was just banded on yesterday. Things are going pretty well. No major issues with gas, every now and then though, I feel the pain from my navel site. I appreciate all of your posts. It's funny how everyone's doctor is different as far as post-ops foods. I'm surviving on the usual liquids, but a small bowl of grits sounds really yummy right now.

    August rush 2010!!!

Hello Fellow August Banders: My journey officially began on yesterday (Banded and Hernia Repair). I can honestly say that I'm doing pretty good. It's almost scary. I did not know quite what to expect, especially with having the repair. I've not had any problems downing my liquids. I'm gonna add my Protein shake today and see what happens. My only discomfort is the expected soreness around my incisions, but I'm convinced that I have the most experienced and greatest Bariatric doctor in the world, Titus Duncan. I would recommend him and his office (Real Results) to anyone interested. So excited about my New Life, unsuccess is not an option for me or any of us. Here's to our NEW LIVES !!!

    help!! no support from hubby

I totally understand. With my husband and I explained to him up front that this decision is ABOUT ME for health reasons and I plainly put, I wanna look good. It has to be about you. I've know of women who lost weight and went from mediocre to GORGEOUS, and they're mean still cheated on them. So it's not about keeping them, it's about living to the fullest potential of YOU. And no I don't advocate being selfish, but as wives and moms sometimes we spend years at becoming "selfless" and I personally had to realized that it's ok to take care of ME. I wish you well...

    I just got banded...

I am so-o-o sorry you're feeling such pain. I was just banded yesterday (8-20-10) which also included hernia repair and I can honestly tell you that I'm feeling fine, aside from the soreness around my incision areas. I didn't know what to expect because of having both and I'm convinced that I had the best doctor in the world to perform this surgery, Dr. Titus Duncan (Metro Atlanta). During Pre-op he provided prescriptions for liquid pain killer and nausea to keep regurgitation at a minimum. Make sure you're sleeping on your back. Perhaps you need to give your body a little more time to heal. I wish you well and will be praying for you !!!
  24. My journey officially begins tomorrow. Can't wait !!!
