Lap Band/Gastric banding LEFT shoulder pain
BayougirlMrsS replied to JACKIEO85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fixing to ask this same question. Glad i looked first. Banded 3+ years ago and i notice that if i over eat i get terrible pain in my left shoulder. NEVER the right and always in the same spot. Not the joint area... mine is where the neck and shoulder meet. The big muscle. I did mention it to my WLS but he never elaborated. It hurts so bad sometimes i put heat and cold compresses. It does go away about an hour or two after i eat. And it's mostly at night. -

An't it funny.... How things work out.
BayougirlMrsS posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So i was just reading and responding to another post asking about how long were you out from work. It made me think about my journey and how things work out. I had worked at my job for 10 years mostly doing Purchasing and acct. Payable At 7 years in, a manger from another dept. recruited me in to the Insurance dept. So for those last 3 i did casualty claims, workers comp, medical insurance... etc. I like the job, but didn't love it. In my process of going to doctors and having all the test done, i got approved on the first letter sent to UHC. I was so Excited to start my new life. October 30th i started my two week liquid diet. On November the 5th we left on a vacation to the Tennessee on the Harley. Yes i was on vacation and doing a liquid diet... and yes it was hard as hell and yes it was cold on the bike...lol. Unannounced to me that Friday the 6th they had a Lay off at work and I was to be one of them. But because i was on vacation, mine was postponed till i was scheduled back which was the 16th. So I had LB surgery on the 10th of November and lost my job on the 16th. Point to the story: If i had not taking that vacation at that time, i would have lost my job on the Friday before my Lb surgery, would have lost my insurance and would not have had my surgery... and probably would still be FAT if not Fatter. But fate was on my side and i did have my surgery and i did lose the weight and i am soooo happy with where i am now. An't it Funny how things work out... -

Insurance Denied - Appeal? How often does it get approved?
BayougirlMrsS replied to lologard44's topic in Insurance & Financing
When i started my research i saw that my BMI was at 39 and that because i didn't have any other health issues i know i would be denied. So i purposely gained 10lbs to reach the 40 bmi. I got it to 40.8 I figured if i have to gain 10 to lose.... then that's what i'll do. My weight was 213, got it to 223.... approved. I would do it again in a heart beat to lose the 80lbs i have lost. I am not ashamed of what i did.... not one bit. i would probably weigh more than that by now if i had not had LB anyway. You would be surprised how easy it is to put on 10lbs in one month... ice cream, ice cream.... and milk shakes... lol -
Still on the Fence Should I take the jump?
BayougirlMrsS replied to cjd3161's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cj... go to a few different seminars with different doctors in your area that do WLS... You need to feel comfortable with this doctor and his staff. He/she will be what makes or breaks your outcome. I have seen may people come in and say, i wish i would have gone to another doctor... he/she won't fill me when i want or i only saw him/her for the surgery and now i have to see the RN or PA. My doctor listens to me. He asks how i feel and i'm honest and say... Doc i feel like i could eat the paint off the walls...I know i'm still losing weight, but it's only because i make my self stop and i'm hungry all the time... Ok, well lets make an adjustment and see how it goes... then HE does the fill. I did at one point have issues with one of his RN's. I told her and him that she was rude and uncaring towards his patients and needs to be more aware of how she speaks to people.... I also, lost my insurance after my LB and he was charging 250 for a fill out of pocket.... I told him i couldn't afford his prices... the RN said... oh well, he won't change them.... Well i did my research and found out that the average price for a fill in a 100 mile rad. was $150... i went to him, plead my case and ... I WON.. he now charges $150 for a fill. Some questions i would ask: What will the follow up be? How many fills are included in my surgery price? How much will they be after? Who will do them? How will you do them? What determines your decision on when to give a patient a fill? What is your % of successes? What is your % of failures? Do you have patients that are willing to talk and give advice? Do you have a support group? When and where do they meet? -

Found out today that another one of my WLS friends is getting divorced. This makes 4 out of the 6. What is going on... Is it the result of the WLS or something else. So this friend had the Sleeve done around 2007. She was at 300+ pounds now she's about 160ish. She and her husband have been together since high school. Our sons are best friends. I always looked at them with admiration at the wonderful marriage they had. He seemed to just adore her and she him. The perfect family... are so i thought. Now i'm thinking.... is this a result of the weight loss or is it just a coincidence? What do you all think? Why is there such a high rate of divorce in WLS couples?

what about the men/woman that love the new you .... but in private? What i mean by that: My husband and i have been married for 22 years. Together for 25 and in those 25 years he has seen me at my best.... 100lbs size 0 and at my worst... 223lb size 18-20. In those years we have had our ups and downs like every marriage But in the few years before LB when i got into the 200's with my weight our "private" time was almost none. Then i started losing the weight after LB and everything started coming back. Now in those years, he assured me that my weigh was not the contributing factor, but how can i now believe that when as soon as the weight started coming off... so did the clothes in the bedroom... I know that he loves me. And i know that he knows that me losing weight was for me to feel better. But for me to get a compliment from him is like pulling teeth. I pretty much have to ask... How do i look? then he will say you look great. then i get, are you going to wear that? don't you think that shirt is too tight? OR, what are you getting dressed up for, we are only going to dinner... He hates when other men look/stare at me. Of course we hang out at biker bars and well, men do stare... what does he think... i have huge breast (36G) wearing a size 6 jeans. Now we have even stopped going there. It's like he loves the new me... but only in private. I have to admit that i do LOVE the attention that i get. So i do worry about our future. I have asked him to go the counseling with me... but he will not go. I do Love my husband... i just need more attention from him...

Still on the Fence Should I take the jump?
BayougirlMrsS replied to cjd3161's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cj.... sounds like you and your doctor need to be more educated on the band. For him to say that its a cop out is just plain ignorant on his part. If all people needed to do was diet and exercise, then why is obesity on the rise? Some of us need more. Every one of us have tried probably every diet and exercise program known to man-kind. And most of us have succeed at one or more of these. Problem is, once you go back to your old habits... the weight comes back too. Having WLS i a life long commitment. Do you have any idea how bad i would love to eat a big hamburger with cheese... and on a bun with a huge side of fries and a creamy milk shake... are a big slice of Deep dish pizza with everything on it and extra cheese ...OMG... I'm sure the people doing WW and Jenny Craig... etc can... My point is, having WLS is more than just diet... it a commitment to a life of change. Changing not only what you eat, but how much you eat, how you eat, when you eat, what your doing when you eat..... None of us woke up one morning and said... Hummm today i will start taking the easy way and go have WLS. It was something we all heard about, and put great thought into. Is this for me? Why have i failed at every diet i have every tried? What if i fail at this too? How will it effect me and my family for the rest of my life? Is it all worth it? You my friend are the only person that can answer any of those and many other questions. Not me, not your wife, not your family, not your friends... and certainly not your ill informed doctor. You took the first step and went to the seminar, but i would attend a few of the support groups. Talk to some of those people. Ask question and then ask more questions. I would suggest you also make an appointment with a nutritionist and a shrink that deals with people like us that do compulsive thing like over eat, gamble drink, have OCD.. etc. WLS is not for every one. I have had friends that have had the BP, Sleeve and LB lose weight only to gain it all back. Not because the surgery fail... but because they failed. Good luck with what ever you choose to do... -

Hope you were able to keep your job... As it would happen, my friend was looking for someone to help her clean houses. She had had LB surgery two years before. So i started helping her and what a blessing because the constant moving jump started my weight loss even more. I did get the job i have now 9 months later. I really was not looking, but unemployment sent me on the interview and i had to take the job even though it paid $5 less than what i was making at my last job. But i will stay here for the time being. It will be three years in Aug.... -
time off: Lapband, i had surgery on Tuesday and was back to work on the Monday... But the day i went back i got laid off from my job of 10 years. Tummy Tuck, surgery was feb 15 and i was back to work 12 days later. Gallbladder surgery, i had surgery on Thursday and was back to work on Monday.
