Band vs Sleeve
BayougirlMrsS replied to bloomie85's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@bloomie85 The band v sleeve debate.... it always happens. I'm a band member and for me.... i love it. that's not to say that crap can't go wrong... but crap can go wrong with any surgery. If you don't mind.... Go back and read some of the bad stories and watch how many are because THEY were non complaint.... they didn't go to the dr, they got comfortable with the weight loss and started not following the rules.... they will say things like.... I did great at first and then i started eating badly.... blah blah blah.... I have been on this site for over 7 years and have pretty much read it all. Band members will support the band... Sleevers will support the sleeve and GB will support theirs..... We all want to believe our WLS is the best. And for me... the band is the best. I have seen so many WLS people LB, Sleeve & GB all have success... but i have also seen a lot of failures. A few things i see with most all of the WLS: (just my observation).. successful (for the most part, not always) people follow the rules, They exercise, and i don't mean a few min a day for 2-3 days a week... i mean they are in the gym 5 days a week for at least one hour.... they pay attention to their bodies...when things don't feel right... they go to the dr. don't come here and ask random people what they should do.... they already know what should be done. They also see when they are slipping back into their old ways with eating badly.... I did this and when i didn't fit into my jeans... i got back on the wagon and lost the 20 i had gained and 20 more at 6 years out... so it can b done. failures (for the most part, not always).... don't follow the rules... they don't exercise... they didn't learn to change the way and what they eat (or they only change till they lose). They relied on the WLS to do all the work for them. They get comfortable and forget and start eating around the surgery..... and when they gain it back then they blame the surgery... whether its the band, sleeve or GB... They don't want to look with in and take ownership of what they did to contribute to the failure. Am i saying that there aren't legitimate complication out of the hands of the patient .... Of course there are.... Yes the band is more work... but i find that the work keeps me on track. It makes me accountable for me and my actions. It's like WW... you know you eat better when you are paying for someone to weight you and document your success and failures. With the others i find it's easier to get lazy and like WW... you do well until you stop going... and then you slip back into the old ways. In the long run.... you should do what you feel is best for you.... go see a few more doctors... get more opinions... Do more research... get to know your body and really look into why you had success in the past and what you were doing during those successes... then also look at why you failed... Look at each WLS and see which one will better fit your successes. Don't let any of use tell you what you should do.... YOU tell you what is best. Best of luck -

Band vs Sleeve
BayougirlMrsS replied to bloomie85's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@bloomie85 This question has been asked a lot... What to do? Well that's a question only you can answer. I had my LB placed 7 years ago. I unlike @ have had zero complications... I listen to my body and when i was too tight i went to my dr and he took some out. I feel great.... Some people chose to keep a over tight band because they love the weight loss.... I chose not too... When i feel uncomfortable... i fix it...... and guess what I CAN DO THAT... Ask a sleever if they can.... hmmmm NOPE they can't. Their stomach is permanently removed. I have to disagree with part of this statement (common complications and lack of weight loss success,).... I know there are places that are no longer doing the band.. this is true. But, the majority (not all) of the problems are "user error".... as as far as long term success... i know way more people that has had long term success with the band than some of the other WLS.... My self included... Nov 10 i made 7 years.... i have maintained an 80-100lbs loss. Im comfortable at my current weight of 130... the CEO of this site Alex is at 12 year...and many others. People have to remember in the beginning the majority of the bands were done in Mex and patients was not given proper follow up and instructions.... plus they were putting in a 3CC band.... that is tiny.... My sister in Law was one of these people also.... had band removed and got GB.... and guess what... she is gaining her weight back... Again there has been an influx of people doing .... Band over BP and Band over sleeve lately. Anyway.... best of luck to everyone -
I'm so glad your not offended by my honesty.... some do. Im glad you told your doctor everything.... Im with you on the accountability. and i think WW could def help you keep on track. I really think if you start moving more... and eating less you will see the difference. I would give it a try... what do you have to lose except more weight... right? Get serious about taking your life back.... i did, that's why im getting divorced. Life is too short to be unhappy and i can tell this weight is making you unhappy and you are falling into the stress/depressed eating pattern. You didn't like that PHY.... go see another one and another one till you find someone you like and feel comfortable with... someone that won't baby you, someone that will tell you what you NEED to hear and not what you WANT to hear You did it once.... I know you can do it again... YOU just have to believe in yourself.

Now if you have the money... get some http://www.strivectin.com/sd-advanced.html works great on face wrinkles too... -
You guys know im really all about being positive and encouraging.... but im going to Playing the Devils advocate here..... and how is this the bands fault? You admitted that: You are not eating correctly and are eating around the band. They way i stop over eating... I stop eating... fix what you know you should eat and eat ONLY that. Step away from the table and go do something else... Go walk, go read, go clean, go play with kids... Another way i don't eat the bad stuff... I Don't buy it. (except Mt. Dew, you all know how i feel about that, ill shank a bi*ch that comes between me and the Dew)... But, When i do have a craving, I go do something to get my mind off of it.... if that doesn't work...i get the smallest size, eat a bite or two and throw the rest away.. in the trash and pour something on top. Your exercising 30min for 3 days a week..... Girl, that is no where near enough. If your really serious about losing weight you have to do more.... I know... there are some people that lost a sh*t ton of weight and never exercised...but, look at where most of them are now... back up in weight for the same reason as you... eating more and moving less..... You have to reverse that and eat less and move more... I don't see how a new WLS is going to cure your problem... My sister in law has had two LB's and GB and is managing to put the weight back on.... Why, she never got a grip on the underlying issues on WHY she over eats and until you do as well.... NO WLS is going to work...... plus she never exercised. My friend Tami... GS lost over 100 never exercised... gaining back.... my friend Jenny had GB... Gaining it back, never exercised... I see a pattern with all WLS.. if you count on the Surgery to do ALL the work, it won't work in the long run. Were you completely honest with your new dr. that he would suggest GB? doesn't he realize... it's not the surgery's fault. When i started gaining back... i, like you realized what i was doing and stopped do it... got back on the exercise train and lost the 20 i gained and lost the last bit to reach my 100lbs lost mark.... It can be done... you just have to want it bad enough. The biggest step is .... You know what your doing wrong... and only YOU can change it.... Not the dr and not a different WLS You CAN do this.... you CAN... just have to put your mind to it... Im cheering for you.... because i KNOW YOU CAN....Never..GIVE UP ON YOU!!! Your worth every effort... When the devil hands you lemons... squeeze it in that Bast*rds eyes.. and runnnn

BayougirlMrsS replied to DylanRae's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@DylanRae so to say what everyone else said... You look great. I didn't have the sleeve i had the LB done 7 years ago. The first part of correcting the problem behavior is admitting that it's a problem (or can be). The good thing is you seem to know exactly what your doing. This means you can also fix what your doing.... I still have cravings... WLS didn't stop those for me... only helped my consumption of a lot of bad things. The thing i still do... drink Mt Dew. I love it... i have never been able to put it down. I also never logged a single thing. But i weighed myself everyday (obsessed) if i didn't lose for maybe gained a few Oz... i would think back on the day before and remember what i ate... normally it was something i should not have and set my mind to not eat it again (if possible).... When i do get a craving, i will go to the store, buy that one thing in the smallest package possible and eat a couple and throw the rest away. I'm always impressed and amazed at the people here that have givin up sugar. I just couldn't... so i embrace all the changes i made and try and do my best with the rest. Up the cardio.... when i did that, that's when the weight reallyyyyyy started to come off. Maybe get with a Personal trailer. I couldn't due to finances... but if you can, do so. Do what you can to the very best of your ability and work on the rest... came across this in an old post when I was having a bad day and one of my dear friends wrote this too me.... So im sending to you : we all have bad days. I have some really awful days where I couldn't eat healthily if you paid me to. Sometimes this lasts for a week or more. I think banders do each other a disservice if we pretend none of us have days where we fall off the wagon. Hell, even the thinnest people eat crap sometimes - you read my FB, you KNOW I eat chocolate, drink wine, eat badly sometimes if I have a stressful day. The difference though is not letting your bad day defeat you, so that one day becomes a bad week, and then that bad week becomes a bad year, and that bad year becomes your new lifestyle. It's ok to fall off the program sometimes, we're all human after all. As long as you don't give up trying to get back on program. So instead of being ashamed that you stopped, be proud that you're starting again! -

No luck. So she went to the dr and he confirmed PCOS. He also suggested WLS. She called me immediately (she knew i had LB) with a 1000 questions (well maybe not that many, but close). She wanted the LB, but her insurance paid for the GB or Sleeve. I Not really know a lot about either at the time, came here and asked. the overwhelming response was GB. You are correct in your insight. Protein rich food are harder to swallow/digest. Learned through trial and error that i can't eat over cooked meats of any kind.. so i stay away from Pork chops because i can't cook them med/med rare.... but i get my steak cooked MR and my burger (no bun) med... chicken tends to be only dark meat as the white is too dry. I also learned to cut up my meat in bite before i put one piece in my mouth the size no bigger than my pinky fingernail. Each person is different and their journey is also. Success is hard work for everyone... it's all a learning process. And yes the crunchy stuff goes down wayyyy easy (chips, crackers, Cookies...etc) but if i don't buy it, i can't eat it.
