Self-Fill are you doing this?
kels764 replied to TQUAD64's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
LOL! these responses are cracking me up! Ive often wondered why they didn't connect the band to a pump instead of a port.....then all they'd/we'd have to do is pumppumpump! filled! -
Frustrated. Not getting any answers...please help!!!

I had my 3rd fill a couple of days ago. Im having really really severe stomach pain and have been very worried I have made my lapband slip or something. Ive taken a laxative (effective) and gas-x. My question is about measuring....Ive asked my dietitian and she blows me off so Im hoping I can find an answer here. When you measure do you measure out 4 oz. by weight or by a measuring cup? Example: a granola bar says it is 1 oz on the bottom of the package....(remember this is just an example not what I actually eat!) so could I eat 4 of those to equal 4 oz? Or do I break it apart and measure it in a measuring cup? 4 oz. in a measuring cup of large marshmellows is a lot less than 4 oz. of say...cheese dip. So how do YOU measure? am I eating too much by going by weight? I weigh out (using a digital scale) 2 oz. of turkey and 1 oz cheese and then 1 oz crackers....am I eating too much since Im not using the measuring cup? Im probably repeating myself a million times. Im just freaking out... -

thanks so much for everyone's input! I definitely wouldnt eat 4 granola bars, that was just the only thing I could think of at the time that had 1 oz. at the bottom of the package:tongue: Did most of yalls doctors tell you to eat 1 cup? mine just told me 4-6 oz. I think my stomach pain was just gas.....plus a little paranoia thrown in -
I know youre probably tired of hearing this but it does get better! It is normal to feel like you made a mistake, or you want the lapband out of you....I went through a period of "what have I done?!?!" but Im 3 months out now and it gets better! hang in there!!!!

I had my surgery on december 16, 2009. I am due for my 2nd fill on February 11 but I feel like I can eat as much as I used to! I dont, of course....but Im ALWAYS hungry! always! Will I always feel this way?

thank yall all so so much for all of the support and encouraging words!!!! Im glad to know Im not an oddball or some crazy mishap and this feeling is normal!

For the past 2 days I have been experiencing some pretty bad stomach pain....it ranges inbetween my navel and right under my breasts. It gets worse when I lay on my left side or back....does this sound like gas/constipation or something worse (band slippage?) ? I am kind of paranoid right now..

my surgery was the 16th of december...I plan on calling the doctor in the a.m.

Need some encouragement...

My doctor told me to start out my day with a hot beverage to help loosen the tightness of the band ...maybe you could try some hot chocolate or hot tea or something? -
My steristrips stayed on for 2 whole weeks and when I went to the doctor the nurse said "I dont know why they tell you not to take these things off before 2 weeks...they harbor so much bacteria!" and they pulled them off and I was healed. I had one nurse tell me to leave them on until they fall off and the other to tell me when they start peeling up at the edges to go ahead and take them off.

I will be 2 weeks post op this wednesday. For the past two days I have been able to eat a small piece of catfish (chopped up, baked, chewed 30+ times) and then today I ate some chicken (baked, chopped up again, chewed 30+ times) I feel soooo incredibly guilty because I am not supposed to start foods like that until around 5 weeks postop. I am so scared I have stretched out my pouch or made my band slip by jumping to this phase so quickly. I have yet to feel nausious...i stop when I am full, and Ive been measuring out about 4-6 ounces like I am supposed to. So my question is.....how do you know if youve stretched your pouch or your band has slipped? do you have to feel nauseous or vomit before youve actually filled your pouch up too much? I have my 2 week checkup tomorrow and I am a nervous wreck. Help

What were your first few days post-op like?
kels764 replied to terrimj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow im so incredibly glad i read this! I had my surgery on the 16th and have had several crying fits and get this out of me! moments....it does get better, im still in a lot of pain though -
Tomorrow I will be a full week post-op. Ive had ups and severe downs and today I feel better than I have been. Ive lost 32 lbs since 12/2/09 (which includes my preop diet) I feel great! But I do have some questions.... Is it normal to get to the point where youre like "just get this thing out of me!!!!" Im still having issues with gas....Im eating gasx strips like candy, basically....what do you guys prefer for constipation....todays been the first day I havent needed to take my Lortab...Ive been relying on Tylenol....which will help the constipation, but is there any other tips or tricks to get rid of gas/constipation? Ive been walking up and down my hall several times a day. Also, my port site hurts pretty bad....is that normal?? when I lay on my side it feels like something is pulling down on the site or something? its hard to describe.... sorry for all the questions and the book I wrote lol! any tips or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

almost a week post-op....

Thanks for all of the tips! Theyre much appreciated! My doctor will not allow me to have a laxative because he says it causes rebound constipation. So I can have benefiber and such... but today ive been able to survive on just tylenol so Im hoping that will help my bowels....TMI: I am having small bowel movements, but theyre not solid at all. I guess because Im only consuming liquids? but it still feels like theres something in there.... My port site just feels like the fat is pulling down on it or something when I lay on my side...my butt is so sore from laying on my freaking back! Im ready to sleep on my stomach again lol... I havent had a big issue with hunger...but I am having problems with seeing other people eat and wanting it....even though I dont feel hungry. I still have cravings and everything like that... How do yall incorporate Protein in your diet? I was supposed to start protein on the 4th day postop but cannot do the shakes that I have....I bought something called "Any Whey" and am going to start mixing it with my carnation instant Breakfast. One more question and then Im done I promise! lol What Vitamins do yall take? I have chewable but theyre huge and disgusting...so I bought gummy vitamins but Im worried I shouldnt do those since theyre gummy and sticky? once again sorry for all of the questions! -
I am on day 2 of my 2 week preop diet and I am wondering if anyone knows of a DECENT tasting protein drink/shake? I am on the bariatric advantage meal replacement shake and it's disgusting! it's thick as pudding and tastes like watered down chocolate! I am almost ready to give up because I cannot handle drinking the protein shake....is there anything else out there thats better tasting? please help!!!
-
thank ya'll sooo much for the tips and tricks and recipes! My problem is that my doctor doesnt allow me to have any add-ins like fruits or anything like that to my shake...nor icecream of any sort. It has to be straight powder with skim milk or water
-
I thought I'd list the following Protein drinks that I have tried and see if there's any hope for me in finding a decent tasting one  1.) Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement shake in chocolate-DISGUSTING!!!! 2.) EAS chocolate premixed shake-tasted very very vitamin-y to me 3.) Isopure Clear in green apple-it wasn't awful but it has a very very very weird after taste like someone stated above and is very strong! 4.) Pure Protein chocolate premixed shake in the can-this was the best chocolate shake I have found, but its hard to stomach it all 5.) something sort of like Proslam-very strong, although easy to "knock back" really quickly due to it being only 3.1 oz. BUT it was pretty disgusting! So is there not a protein PILL?!?! jeeze!
-
jeeze I wonder why some doctors choose different diets than others? my diet is 14 days...the first 3 days was 3 slimfast a day and 1 Protein shake and the next 10 days are 2 slimfast (I use carnation instant breakfast) and 1 small garden salad, and 1 Protein Shake I never realized how many commercials are about food until I was starving to death lol:bored:

Today was the first day of my preop diet and I thought I was dying. I have 13 more days of this?!?!?! how will I make it out alive?! Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!
-
Good luck on your stinkin' diet too!!!:wow: I have 10 days to go....and I keep repeating "I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can!!!" haha! Thats not a bad slipup at all! I havent slipped up just yet....but Im not getting on my high horse just yet lol....that pizza my brother cooked earlier smelled SOOOO good I thought I was gonna die! Ive lost 10 lbs so far!:woot:
-
praying for a fast recovery!!! good luck!

Its gotten a lot easier! I called my surgeons office telling him I was having a hard time the first day and she said that the 3rd day was the hardest...but I dont believe that because the first day was h-e-l-l! I am now doing really good...Ive discovered carnation instant breakfast-sugar free and I can choke that down a lot easier than the slimfast. I am still having a hard time finding a Protein drink that is decent tasting....but hang in there! it really does get easier! sleep as much as you can

wow! you know I never really thought about it all being sweet but it is! I might have to try the bouillon thing! I am craving salt! thanks so much for the encouragement!
