Insulting questions. We are not alone!
TracyNYC replied to honk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Excellent answer Betsey! People are stupid... -
Tofu Shirataki (Low Carb Pasta) by House Foods Has anyone tried these? I have a few recipes for them from Hungry Girl. I am concerned about the consistency, like will it get stuck like Pasta can. Not worried about taste, if it is gross, I will throw it out. Though I have had some pasta as long as it is "wet" with a sauce I can handle it.

I suspected as much  I may try it and just see what happens....darn -
I just wanted to share that yesterday was my 1 year band anniversary and I had a check up today. I am down 66 pounds in total. 71 would have put me at the 60% of excess weight gone mark, so I am pretty close. Had a slight unfill since I have had reflux frequently. BOO, but am down 16 since the end of August. I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel if I squint really hard.

Thanks! I know it is mind over matter, but I am suddenly hungry tonight after the un fill. (only .5 of a cc) LOL Looking for my next thing to inhale....

What has being fat kept you from doing?
TracyNYC replied to MountainMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am guilty of many of the things posted by others. The list can go on and on and on... But, I was wondering how many of these self-imposed limits really were needed. I wonder if people really are THAT critical of us. Yes, I have been the butt of jokes and rude comments, but looking back those incidents were in the minority compared to the many people I interact with daily. Those negative things are the things that stick with us the most. Just pondering this along with the other mysteries of life. -
What has being fat kept you from doing?

Great story! The biggest things that I feel fat felt me from doing are standing up for myself and dating. -
I just flew on Friday and had no issue. Well, they stole my 2 tiny fruit cup cans. I guess they felt I might hurt someone with a piece of pineapple. LOL

Halloween Challenge
TracyNYC replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lost 1.8. Pretty good considering I was traveling this weekend and at a wedding. Ate more food Saturday than in the last month combined. LOL Good Luck all! -
Wow! I only get a needle and a cup of Water. No freezing spray, no flouro, no barium. It does seem very extreme. The newbies should NOT be scared. That is not a typical approach to fills.

I licked the butter off the knife! WTF!?
TracyNYC replied to candy rain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the idea of banding our heads. That made me laugh. I licked the cinnamon off am apple fritter 2 weeks after surgery. We were at a farm pumpkin picking and they were hot and fresh. My sister and my friend looked at me like I was crazy. I survived and so will you. Look at the big picture. These things still tempt me now a year out, and sometimes I lose, but many times I resist. It gets better. Hang in there. -
Whats the longest we know of anyone having a band?
TracyNYC replied to BobBigBoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, only 5 years? That seems odd..... I agree w/Jachut...we all know people with other foreign objects and no one questions it.... -
Is anyone offended when they find out you've had Lap Band surgery?
TracyNYC replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't say "offended" would explain the reactions. More like horrified. My good friend repeatedly says she would NEVER do the band (She is very heavy) as she has done it herself and wouldn't take the easy way out. She also says she has no food issues, just likes to eat. (yeah...OK) Someone else said that I should just diet. I think the aunt's jealousy has to do with the insurance paying and hers not. -
What is the best/favorite tip, trick or secret you have picked up since being banded? Mine was from BetsyB: Put FF SF pudding mix in with the Protein shakes. Makes them sooooo much better. I also make them w/ the vanilla Almond Milk instead of Water, and I think this was her tip too. Before Betsy's tip I was not drinking them, as I could not tolerate the thin, icky consistency it had. Now, I love to make this for Breakfast or as a treat for myself.

Can you prepare it like a side dish like rice? It does not get stuck or thick like rice? It seems like something that absorbs other flavors around it. Will look for it. Interesting.

Some good stuff here. I will try anything for the Protein shakes. The blender makes a world of difference over those shaker cups. Graham crackers sound delicious as do the syrups. Thanks all. Looking forward to more tips and tricks.

Lab Band & Birth Control
TracyNYC replied to theskinnyme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have wondered this too. I am on the Depo Provera shot and have lost at an OK rate, not great though. (Down 62 in a year.) Both my GYN and surgeon say it has little effect. Maybe 3-5 pounds Water weight. I don't get my period either, but some months feel the symptoms. (a little bloaty, irritable, etc.) I can only listen to the docs and do a little research on the net. I guess we all have different reactions to these things. -
So emotional today
TracyNYC replied to Melissa4773's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. It should pass. Like everyone else said here there is an emotional letdown. Whether it is the surgery itself or the mourning of our dear friend food, or a combination of both, there is def a "crash" period. If it does not subside, you MUST mention it to the doctor. Stay focused! Throw a small scoop of FF SF chocolate pudding mix in the shakes. It kills the taste and is really yummy! I got this tip from BETSY on here! Delish! -
Have you guys watche Too Fat For Fifteen?
TracyNYC replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This will be an unpopular opinion, especially since I am not a parent: Parents with children that obese should be held to the same legal standard that a parent who underfeeds their child would be. Of course their pediatrician should intervene and monitor progress at first, but ultimately, those parents are killing their child just as surely as if they were withholding food. My weight was not out of control until I hit college, so in no way do I blame my mother. The addictive personality comes from my alcoholic father. As a teacher, I often wonder when parents will be held "accountable" for their children. If the kid is obese and dies in gym class, it is the school's fault, the nurse's fault, etc. Just my opinion. Will def check out the show. -
Huge Milestone!!!

When does the weight REALLY start to fall off?
TracyNYC replied to zeniada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 20 the first month after surgery and then slowed to about 3 lbs a month. Until I got my 3rd or 4th fill which was about 7 months after surgery. I have been doing well. Since May I have lost almost 30. Seem to have hit a slow down right now, but have awesome restriction still. -
I have been doing so well lately: little hunger, moving more, dropping nice and steadily as I have had great restriction since May and had a teeny fill in August. I even joined the Halloween challenge and lost almost 5 lbs. this week. Well, yesterday and today the restriction seems gone. (not really) but I have been able to eat and eat. I actually had hunger today too after eating a bit more than usual today. It was a normal dinner time hunger though not a crazy "I have to eat" head hunger. I wonder what happens that causes this and I hope it goes away soon. I doubt I need a fill as I can feel that I am tight, but just been able to eat! UGH!
-
I have had this since my last fill in August. It even happens when I am 'full', I think that is air. It has gotten a little worse since being back to teaching. I think it is the air from all the talking. LOL I feel like everyone can hear it.
