Dr. Terry Simpson - Banded by Dr. Simpson
pipedoc replied to Mariposa2009's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I believe the band is 50% physical and 50% mental. I was determined to make this work, I followed his post surgery instructions the letter and lost 35-40 lbs in the first 6 weeks. It has been a battle and a learning curve, but if you follow the instructions and go to a few support meetings it will be well worth it. I now weigh the same as when I graduated HS back in the mid 80's. I would still like to loose another 15lbs, but even if I don't it's fine. I really do have a new lease on life good luck, you are worth it and my only regret is I waited so long! -

Doctor S rocks! I was banded last October by him. !st visit I was 312lbs. 6 weeks later after following his instructions I was 299 presurgery. 13 months later I am down to 195!!!!!!!! Best thing I have done for myself in my adult lifetime! -
sounds like there might be some hidden calories in there. Try skipping the Cereal and add more protien instead. When you eat salad do you use dressing? my Dr. says stay away from the salad and stick more to protiens. Give it a try and see what happens. Also you might try the 5 day pouch test it might just give ya a jump start.(google 5 day pouch test)

when I was on mushies, Dr. allowed Jello, yougurt and mashed potatoes that about it. I have had great results eating cottage cheese(hated it presurgery) but have learned that if you add fruit it becomes pretty good and I eat alot of it.

What is your goal weight for your height?
pipedoc replied to gingerjane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5'7" currently 203 down from 312 last August and 299 presurgery in early Oct. my original goal was 196 (wt at HS grad in 1986) but I changed it to 185 about 35lbs ago. Now at just over 200 I am thinking I might like 170, but we shall see how I look after another 20-25lbs. I have not been this low since 1987 and feel great but I still need to loose a bit more. but if I never lost another lb I would still be satisfied with my results. But hey here's to another 25! -
what happens when food gets stuck?
pipedoc replied to jllybean1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
food getting stuck is 100% preventable. If you eat the correct size you will not get stuck. Now that bveing said I seem to forget this or eat too quickly and get stuck about once a month, compleatly my fault but the pain reminds me to eat slower and correct sizes. follow your Dr.s rules and you will have great sucess -
7-1/2 months and down 107lbs! pretty much say's it all. Here's to the last 20 and being below 200 for the first time since 1987

BANDSTERS~! Question about your losses?
pipedoc replied to kellyjoiii's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Oct.07,2009 down 92lbs post surgery and 107 total. I found if I stick to protien mostly the band works for me. I do not restrict myself from anything. If I want chocolate I eat it, if I want cheesecake I eat it. Thing is I try REAL hard to limit my portion to a very small one. Often if I feel the need for candy a 25cent candy works instead of the $1.29 candy bar. it is not what I eat that made me 5'7", and 312lbs it's how much of each item I eat. Do not deprive yourself, but you must learn portion control. Worx 4 me so far!:w00t: -
Banded in october--updates please
pipedoc replied to delfinajones's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
tommarow's 7th month for me, down 92lbs since surgery, and 105lbs total so far! could not be happier! hope to loose another 22-32lbs before all is said and done. I am now down to my weight of 1988 and have not and will not deprive myself of anything. I eat Chocolate, cheesecake and ice cream whenever the urge hits! I have learned it is not the type of food but the portion that counts. I am workin out of town and have limmited intenet right now so my response might be slow, but I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!! -

well just got back from a support meeting, this "cheater" is down 88.5 lbs in 5-1/2 months! I have gone from a 46 jeans to a 36 and for the 1st time in 20 yrs I can fit into a size large shirt (snug but can put it on) down from a xxl or sometimes a xxxl. I am no longer on BP meds and my BP is down to 118/65 not bad for less than 6 months and only having to "cheat"

Have a great time doin the tail, that is supposed to be one of the coolest rides in the entire USA! I have been doin well here in Sunny Phoenix (supposed to rain tommarow LOL) weathers been great, mostly in the 60's. Got a run this weekend, out to the local Chilli cookoff about 50 miles from here and I am the primary road captain on this run so WE WILL BE TAKIN THE LONG ROAD HOME LOL! There is 57 miles, but home will be more like 90-95. not too bad for a in town run anyway. I have noticed that since i've lost 70lbs my MPG sure has gone up. Gotta like that free little NSV! Keep the shiney side up and ride it like ya stole it!

How's the October Bansters doing?
pipedoc replied to heyred1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Oct. 6th, lost 63lbs post surgery and 72 total including preop diet. I had my 2nd fill about 10 days ago and it seemed like I was more hungry after the fill than before it. I was finding 1 day I was starving and the next I could barely eat. However in the last 2 dayss I have been ALOT less hungry, if fact today I had a 5oz. Cottage cheese for breakfast (most dayz) and no lunch, and 2 pork ribs for dinner. prolly 6oz or so. I did have 3 lrg coffees during the day, but I use lo-cal creamer and splenda so they are not too bad. Kind of hard to imagine that less than 4 months ago I was 300+ lbs and now I'm just over 230! I exercised 7 days a week for the first month, but have since fallen apart on that front, but I keep really busy so I think it helps. can't wait to be below 225, it will be the first time since 1990! Man I love this band! -
I say get rid of them asap. I keep 1 shirt, mans size xxxl and 1 pair of jeans size 46 to remind me of where I was when I started this journey. I am currently size 38 jeans and xl shirt and look forward to buyin my first pair of 34's and a Lg. shirt for the first time in 20+yrs. I can do it, and so can you!

October 2009 Surgery Date?
pipedoc replied to Daria77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone looses wieght differently, and I think alot has to do with how much a person needs to loose. I was well over 300lbs prior to my surgery so I have lost alot quickly, but I still am 50+ lbs over my goal wieght and probably 75lbs more than my "ideal wieght" I have hit a couple of platues and not lost for a week or two then it seems to come off again. Keep up the good work, there are many ways to judge success. I can see the difference in myself more in my clothes than on my scale. -
October 2009 Surgery Date?
pipedoc replied to Daria77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 10-06-09 and so far I have had 2 fills. I am down about 65lbs post surgery and about 9 more including the pre surgery diet for abour 74-75lbs total. I am very pleased with my results so far although I know they would improve if I start exercising more as I should be. I am pretty careful though that I only eat protien for the most part. I do have an occasional "goodie" but really try to limit them carefully and have a very small portion of whatever it is. I also eat the fruit and cottage cheese paks for both breakfast and lunch most days and it normally fills me up pretty well and then I have a good protien dinner. I have spoken to other patients from other Dr's and I think there is 2 different techniques used with the band. Some Dr's like mine put a pre determinded ammount in the band when they put the band in and other Dr's put it in empty and fill very slowly (thereby racking up lots more $$) I think this has ALOT to do with peoples early success or lack there off. If your Dr is one of the slow fillers keep the faith, when you do get to your sweet spot the pounds will come off.:smile2:
