Thanksgiving-How did you do?
pipedoc replied to Brigette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well I think I made it through relitivly well. I did endulge and have a couple of cocktails, but was careful of what I mixed with. Then came the endless tables of food LOL! I survived the lunch @ the inlaws by eating about 1/2dozen shrimp from a shrimp cocktail and 2 stuffed mushrooms. survived that one, Then came on the huge dinner spread. made it through that one with a small portion of turkey w/little gravy a few green beans, 1/2 of an egg that was deviled. Man, made it through that one, then came the endless onslaught of desserts! I allowed myself 2 small bites of pumkin cheesecake (awesome!) but don't think they totaled 2 tsp. combined. Then topped off the night with a shot when the group started passing those around. Not the perfect food holiday, but all things considered I think I survived pretty well and really did not feel "cheated" out of anything. I did though get to enjoy the attention of the ladies who where amazed @ my weight loss of the last couple months. -
Did anyone lose weight 6 weeks post op?
pipedoc replied to lilmissy2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 weeks post op and down 30lbs. lost about 15 in the first 2 weeks, but people tend to varry in the results. The big thing I notice, is I am noticably thinner in the face in the last 3 weeks, I had pix taken on holloween and again tonight and you can tell a big difference in just the last 3 or 4 weeks. Dont sweat it, just follow the Dr's orders and youll do fine! -
I have not tried flying yet, but 6 weeks post op and I went on a 200+ mile motorcycle ride with no issues. So I would think car trouble certainly would not be a problem.

Help! Does this incision look normal??
pipedoc replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your bruise did not look that bad, I had SEVERE bruising and swelling around my port. It was so swollen it looked literally the size of a large grapefruit and I had to wear a pressure bandage (fancy name for an exspensive girdle LOL!) for 10days for the swelling to go down. then it took 4 weeks for my bruise to disapear. Now 6 weeks post op it looks pretty normal. So don't sweat it, just part of the process. Now @ 6 weeks I'm already down about 25lbs since my surgery. give it a little time and you will be fine! -
Any book recommendations?
pipedoc replied to SumSum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
try this one its exellent, weight loss surgery, a lighter look on a heavy subject by Dr. Terry Simpson -
Both my Dr. and the Ins. co required it. I asked my Dr. why he required it and he said he had a patient who once committed suicied after not loosing weight as fast as her thought he should and the Dr. almost stopped preforming Lap band surgeries after that so that is why he requires it. I assume the ins. does for simmillar reasons.

any lapbanders have a facebook?
pipedoc replied to fatgirlnomore7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am on FB alot, but 90% of my FB friends do not know of the band. I have simply called my weightloss "the genisis project" since Genisis is the begining. The importaint people know and everyone else I just as soon not deal with them on it. -
Freaking Out A Little...HELP!
pipedoc replied to MaryfromMI's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 6 weeks post op and I have only felt pain once, and that was not from overeating, it was from eating way too quickly. I knew it was too fast but I was in a hurry and did it anyway, won't do that again too soon. I normally eat faster than I should be and I have definatly been eating more than I should, but I am very careful about what I eat. I have lost 25lbs in 6 weeks with no pain and I have not had a fill yet, hoping to get one next week so I can cut back a little on the amount I am eating, but no pain and I'm not hungry normally for 4 or 5 hrs at a time. good luck and like the other member said, dont believe everything on the net. -
anyone who gives you a hard time for the surgery does not have your best intrest in mind. Do not waste your time with them, keep positive you did this for you not them!

does anyone eat bread or pasta?
pipedoc replied to fatgirlnomore7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
have not tried pasta or rice, but bread did not go well. Tried a biscutt 5 weeks post op. dont think I'll do that again. -
tell them to keep it up and that your Dr. has plenty of more bands and they can use you as a referal when they get thiers
-
The next time either of them gives you any grief abouut your size or weight tell them if they continue to harass you that you will file a hostlie work enviorment lawsuit agaist the school as well as them personally. There are federal laws concerning harrasment in the work place. Not just racial or sexual, the legal definition of workplace harassment is "creating a hostile work enviorment" I would give them 1 more warning of this if they bother you again as well as written notifacation to the administrator at the school. They are legally required to follow up on it. You do not have to tolerate it, or should you. Be strong, you are improving yourself, not for them but for you!

What is supposed to happen if I eat food to soon?
pipedoc replied to k-statearmywife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the way the Doc explained it to me was that your band can slip down farther on the stomach requiring another surgery to replace or reposition it. From what he told me, the stomach has not gotten used to the band being there that soon and you are able to eat more than you should at this point thereby pushing up some of the lower stomach up through the band to the new stomach area making it larger than it is supposed to be, Or so he said. I started eating a few days early, but that was after 3 weeks of full liquids and 5 days of mushies, dont think I had a problem but its too early to know for sure. good luck PD -
How hard is not drinking with meals
pipedoc replied to dyingtobethin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 weeks post op and I thought it would be alot harder than I actually find it. I do have to think about it sometimes and plan my drinks around my meals, but you can do it!:tongue2: -
I cheated... on myself
pipedoc replied to Patterba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
don't be too hard on yourself. This is a journey and not everyday goes according to the road map. I am only 6 weeks post op, and I feel I have done pretty well so far, but I have had a very tough and busy weekend that has not allowed me to do everything as per the book due to very limmited time and food choices. I did the best I could under the curcumstances and tryed to stick to the protien only. I did find myself eating way too fast all weekend and I paid for it this morning with some discomfort. But I will try to get back on track tommarow and will not get down on myself. Tommarow is a new day, so live it for yourself and allow yourself a little slack now and then. If we were all perfect we would not need the help of the band. -
I am 4-1/2 weeks post op, but I have been off the meds since week 1
-
that's really wierd because since being banded so have I. Last night I had a strange one that my 14 yr old daughter called me @ work (been layed off for a year now) and told me she was in a town 45 miles away, that she ditched her field trip @ school and went shopping and spent her entire paycheck (she's 14!) and that I have to come get her and she was crying?????????????????? Every night I have been waking up about 5am or earlier with theese strange dreams and yes they are very life like and often involve people I have not seen in years??????? Anyone else?

Dr. Terry Simpson - Banded by Dr. Simpson
pipedoc replied to Mariposa2009's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was banded by him 1 month ago yesterday and it was a $1000 program fee that was not covered by my ins. I have lost 20lbs since the surgery though. -
I did not sign up for this!
pipedoc replied to Social gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3cc sounds like alot, but what size is your band? they make them up to 14cc so if you have a big band, 3cc might not be that much -
I lost 20lbs in first 30days since surgery, but I exercise @ least 45 min. EVERYDAY

Halloween Candy House of Horror
pipedoc replied to Lupe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I survived the holloween party, I did avoid all candy like the plauge. I did allow myself to have 1 small bite of cake and found it to be very sweet almost too sweet. I did have 4 cocktails, but when it came to the food I managed to get by just eating a couple meatballs (that where fantastic). Tonight we went to dinner @ my Brother in laws and they served chicken enchiladas and beans, I think I did pretty good there, but I did have a margarita there too. Better stay away from the drinks for a while, they seem to go down waaay to easy. -
Good books on lap band surgery
pipedoc replied to SPENCERBE333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope it helps, I am 1 month post op on tuesday and already down 20 lbs since surgery and 30 alltogether. It seems to work so far! good luck and stay motivated!:scared2: -
:scared2: Well I made it through my clubs Holloween bash LOL! It was my first time back around the club since being banded a month ago and I must say everyone was very supportive. Only issue I found is that I like to eat and drink, so I had to be very cognazant of that fact. I did have a few Whiskey Sour's to test my alcohol drinkin ability and I had a few meatballs that where awesome! I allowed myself 1 bite of cake (Ifound it incredibly sweet) and stayed clear of the candy compleatly. All in all it was a great comeback! hope ya'll had a great holloween too!:frown:

follow your Dr's orders and it WILL work, the fact that you have already lost 25lbs proves it! congrats and keep up the good work!
