Hey February 2010 Bandsters!
XxMariposaxX replied to Northern Mist's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Everyone! How is everyone doing? Did everyone's surgery (so far) go without a hitch? How is the pre-surgical diet going? I'm doing fine, just some pain in the port site otherwise great. The gas was terrible but it's gone now. Still a bit filled with fluid but it's not stopping me from walking like a bandit. Has anyone had a burst of energy like me or am I a weirdo? -

not losing weight?
XxMariposaxX replied to Sarahd333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Sarah! I'm 4 days post-op and just had my first check-up last night.. I too haven't lost anything since surgery. The dr told me not to worry as long as I am getting enough walking in, because I'm still holding onto fluids. Don't worry (I know it's hard not to!) We can do it! -

Miss Seeann, it could be posible that you are allergic to something in the shakes. Talk to the nut or dr about using something different post op so you can avoid unhappiness with the throne. -

Questions about protein shakes!
XxMariposaxX replied to dontgoggilme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started "sampling" my Protein for Breakfast and found a few that I like: EAS Advantage Carb Control RTD-Vanilla & strawberry, purchased at Walmart and also available at CVS Myoplex Lite-Vanilla & chocolate purchased at Amazon.com Muscle Milk Light-Vanilla, Strawberry & banana, purchased at Amazon. The Jillian Michaels brand from Walmart is also good. -
I agree with rafa!

I too am addicted to water with Crystal Light. I have a 1 Ltr water with 1 on the go size cherry pomegranate, it tastes better to me diluted. My fiance calls it my crack. I guess it's better to be addicted to water with flavor then soda.

Question on FILLS
XxMariposaxX replied to mandyfsc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to Mexico for the surgery as well. My advise to you would be to call the surgeons in your area to make sure they will provide follow-up care for patients banded elsewhere and what they charge self-pay patients for fills. I called a few places and 1 doctor will NOT see any patients with foreign surgeries and the other 2 told me about documentation that they will need to give me aftercare in addition to their fees. Since the lap band is just a weight loss tool, the after care and fills are just as important as the surgery. I was told that I would likely need a fill every 6-8 weeks after my surgery depending on my weight loss, hunger-level, etc. -

Thank you for making me feel better about my decision Janelle. -
I went to the same site. The fees are VERY high but I figured I'll be saving money on food and my tax return will go towards that. I financed $4,150 with surgery loans, Financed $2,000 from my 401K and the rest came from stock options that I sold. I have a $178 per month payment with the loan and $50 a month to my 401K.

Kathy, please don't ever think you are alone! I have the same problem. Plus I sweat alot under my belly (between my crotch and belly button) and when I dry it with a towel it gets irritated. Does anyone else have that issue? -

#1. Surgery date? 2/5/10 #2. State you live in? New York, (Long Island) #3. Doctor/Surgery Center? Dr. Ortiz, at the Obesity Control Center in Mexico #4. Insurance or self pay? Insurance has an exculsion.. Self-Pay #5. Age and height- 29, 4'11" #6. Current weight and goal weight? 191 (lost 9lbs so far) and Goal 120 #7. What was your deciding factor for having this surgery? I want to be healthy for my future. I don't have any children (yet) and will be getting married in 2010 and I don't want to carry this burden on. Also, I have high colesterol, painful joints, high blood pressure and want to avoid taking medication for as long as possible for these issues. #7. Do you have the support of family and friends? Yes for the few I've told however, a few (of the few) are not happy that I'm going to Mexico. #8. Concerns and questions? Social Engagements in the beginning post-op stages are worrying me. Many of you may see that I want to lose 70lbs and want to tell me to hit the road but I'm only 4'11" and every diet I've tried just makes me hungry! -
FATS!! Finally Able to Succeed (Feb 2010 Bandster)
XxMariposaxX replied to Me3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Stacey! I'm Stacey too! Hey Everyone! I have scheduled my surgery for 2/5/10 in Mexico with Dr. Ortiz. A few people (of the very few that I have told) are very happy and excited for me, others are not happy that I'm going to Mexico and think that I'm putting my health in jeopardy. I want to tell them to bug-off but that wouldn't be very nice. Any advise for me on how to handle this? -

Using additional weight loss methods in conjunction with the Band
XxMariposaxX replied to fire&spice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't been banded but used Alli for a month with a low-fat diet and WOULD NOT recommend it. I went out for dinner with friends and ordered Grilled tuna with a dry salad thinking it would be a good choice. Boy, was I ever wrong... I suffered severe dumping syndrome and soiled myself before leaving the restaurant. If you plan on eating NO FAT or wearing diapers then Alli would be fine. -
