    Nsv!

    You go girl!
  2. Sometimes I pat myself on the back for my weight loss and the changes I've made and other times I feel like I'm not doing enough. I'm 6 months out and think I should be further into my weight loss goals. Can anyone share their motivation and the secrets they tell themselves to get remotovated? I'm not looking for a magic pill and know that I will have to work at this but just need some encouragement.

    Need some encouragement

Thank you all for the great support! It means alot to me
  4. 1. Don't be afraid to ask for pain medication. It helped me sleep because the large incision felt like it was "tugging". 2. Bring Water with you wherever you go. When I had hunger-pangs the water usually did the trick. 3. I had a strange craving for OJ after my surgery when I was only allowed liquids, the doctor told me to have it when I felt I needed it because my body was telling me something was missing. 4. When you are allowed mushy and pureed foods, go out of your comfort zone. Some things you may not have liked before may become appealing to you.

    Need some encouragement

Thank you Catherine, VLP and Ginger! Catherine, I'm not into blogging but have followed your blog  I recently become a Zumba Instructor and take classes at least 3 times a week. I'm going to follow all of your advise and THANK YOU very much

Any Good Fill Lap Band Dr's On Long Island, Ny

I was seeing Dory Ferraro at LIBC in Levittown but she has changed her hours and isn't as available as she used to be. I love her and her staff and hate to change doctors but don't know what to do. I'd like to see someone at least once a month and go to support group meetings. Does anyone know of a good surgeon/doctor in Nassau County or Queens that is accepting new patients? LIBC-Band Adjustments
  7. Hey ya'll.. so sorry I missed your post. I didn't go on the cruise :( Everything is going great with my band, how is everything with you?

Am I really at THIS point?

Hey There Bigbipper: I was there too.. I'm 4'11" and was 197lbs before I considered WLS. I said to myself, how the heck did I get here? I tried every diet out there and it hurt too much to excersize so that was out of the question. This wasn't exactly the easy road to take but I would certainly do it again. You'll need to keep in mind that you will need to excersize and make smart food choices otherwise the WLS would be for nothing. It's just a tool and you have to use it correctly in order for it to work. I've seen many people going into this thinking it's the magic cure for obesity and it's not. I learned 1 month post-op that I wouldn't have restriction for a while and would need to control my portions myself. I also noticed that when I don't limit my carbs, I don't lose weight. So, please follow your doctors instructions and GOOD LUCK!

In need of answers and support please....

My weightloss was at a standstill until I started seriously limiting my carbs and excersizing. I work out a minimum of 3 times per week for 1 hour and only eat carbs (an english muffin) with my breakfast. My restriction isn't always there but I limit my portion sizes.

    Anyone do Zumba?

I do Zumba at least 3 days a week and love it! It's fun but can be a bit intimidating at first. My instructors always say that if you can't do what they're doing just keep moving, it's not about what they're doing that it's about moving. I purchased the DVDs and I find that they are much harder then the classes because there is no outside motivation to keep you going like in the classes. I'd say try it... you have nothing to lose but weight! :smile2:
  13. It took me 30lbs to lose one size.

wisdom you wish you knew prior to surgery

I agree with what everyone has said here but to add to the list: You will have some sort of port incision pain and it may be hard to sleep because of it. Do not be afraid to ask for pain meds to take before bedtime because they will help ALOT. You may become cranky due to lack of food and you may feel hunger, just drink lots of fluids and the hunger-pangs will go away. The crankiness will subside eventually too. The doctors, nurses and people here will tell you to walk as much as you can. DO IT! It'll make you feel loads better. Take measurements and photos before surgery. You will lose inches even if you don't lose pounds. These make for great NSVs (Non scale Victories) Buy a magic bullet.. the best thing to make your shakes in. Try different brands of Protein, they aren't all bad. Follow the doctor's post-op instructions.. he/she knows whats best for his/her patients. :Dancing_biggrin: Good luck on your journey!

does the band absorb the fluid?

No, the liquid doesn't disappear. The fat stores around your stomach shrink and the band gets looser which is why we need fills every so often.
  16. XxMariposaxX

what do you do for exercise?

I take a Zumba class 3-4 times a week and use free weights 2 times a week. I also walk whenever I can.

    So flippin' tired of puking

I was told that ANYTIME I have a PB or stuck episode I should go on liquids for 2 days then progress to soft foods then solids because the stomach could get irritated. Have your doctors checked you for a slippage because it sounds like you could possibly have one?

How long post-op was your first fill?

My first fill was 1 month post-op and it took me a while to get to my sweet spot. Everyone (and doctor) is different and there are different guidlines for everyone.

    Sometimes I can, Sometimes I can't

I find that I am really tight in the morning as well. I have coffee on the way to work and a formal breakfast around 10AM.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Hey everyone! Glad to see everyone is doing well! I'm feeling great as well but my weightloss has stopped. :scared2: I went in to see the doctor last night and the NUT and Dr. think I may be eatting too many carbs which is totally possible! I got another fill and I'm up to 7ccs in an 11cc band. I work out everyday and take most weekends off except when I have a 5K planned. I can't say enough about how great I feel. I wish everyone a great May and I'll see you all soon.

    EMERGENCY! Need advice!!

I used the excuse Humming Bird gave for when I went to a party 1 week before my surgery. When I went to a party with many of the same attendees 1 month after surgery, I said the same thing again and they were no longer skeptical because they had noticed the changes.

    Under 30 Lapbanders

I'm 29, was banded 2/5/10 and have lost 26lbs to date. I am very happy with my decision. The social aspect was difficult at first because I wasn't eating solid foods but after that, everything is back to normal.. I just can't eat as much.

    What do you all think?

Hey there Nursy! Welcome to the forum! I had the same feelings as you before I had my surgery. I'm 4'11 and was approaching 200lbs so at that weight I finally made the decision to have lap-band surgery. My goal weight is 120 which gives me about 77lbs to lose and while it's on the low-side for many bandsters it's on the high-side for me. My insurance has an exception for WLS so I self-paid and it was the best decision I have made in my life! I'm a bit over 2 months post-op and have lost 26lbs. I have never had more energy and I actually look forward to working out. I hope that answers your question Nursy, feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat or have more questions.
  24. Last night I had baked pork chops with steamed asparagus. I had one chop and about 7 asparagus stalks. About 20 minutes afterwards I had a pain in my chest which felt like a huge bubble right under my chest bone. Along with periods of shortness of breath. It felt like I needed to vomit but couldn't? The pain lasted a good hour before I went out and bought pineapple juice and didn't go away until about 1 hour after drinking the juice. Was I stuck? What do you do when you get stuck and does it happen right after the meal or 20 minutes after you've eaten something?
  25. XxMariposaxX

    Was I stuck?

Thank you Coco, I also do the same with my pork chops.. applesauce makes it WAY better!
