I have been overweight my entire life. When I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes it was a devistating blow. I have tried to lose weight forever. I also have PCOS which gets in the way of everything I have tried for weight loss. It is what probably brought about the diabetes. Finally, I had a doctor take an interest in my weight. She referred me for bariatric surgery. I had the choice of which to have. I chose the lap band because I didn't want my body not to function normally. I went to the seminar in Atlanta in July 2008. I dragged my heels and finally decided in November of 2008 that I would do this. I had all of my appointments to get the clearances completed by January 2009. Then I dragged my heels about mailing everything off. I sent it all in in June of 2009 and began the office visits prior to surgery. I had visits on Sept. 1, 8, and on the 17th had the endoscopy. My surgery date was October 7, 2009.Before the surgery my highest weight was 309. I had managed to get down to 298.5 and stayed in the 290s for over a year. Once going on the pre-surgical diet, I went down to 284.5. That was my weight when I went in for surgery.I hope I made the right decision. I want to be here for my family. I want to see my son mature into the wonderful man that I know he will be. I want to participate in life, not just watch it go by.
