Hi all, just wanted to get some advice from you other bandsters that have 'been there, got the t-shirt'. I have been having bad night time reflux for about a month now, did not start immediately after my last fill. It probably occurs about 80% of the time, I awake coughing and choking and have to go and be sick, last 2 nights only about 4 hours sleep before it started. If you have had this can you tell me how it was resolved, I am thinking it will have to be a de-fill but have been trying different things to make it go away ie liquid evening meal or not eating after 4pm, sometimes it works sometimes not, so I am wondering if there is any other solution other than the de-fill route, please pass on your wisdom to me and then I will have to maybe contact 'The Team'. Many thanks one and all -

Thanks Slinky, I lost my login for my ticker so need to do a new one, lost over 2 stone now so really concerned about regaining as banded in Nov, I think I will have to send an e-mail for advice from Dr Chris and team. I thinks its going to be inevitable that I will need a de-fill. thanks and great to follow you to see how you are doing x -

Hi Sammy, I have not been on for some time and thought I should really get on here for some advice. I am suffering with night time reflux, waking up coughing and choking nearly every night now, ending up on the sofa so as not to wake hubby. I guessed if I contacted Chris or Frederick for advice then they would recommend a defill and that is what I am frightened of. Is the defill a permanent thing or will you be able to get back up to where you were in time? I dont get it every night, but about 80% of the time. Can you explain more about what they advised, many thanks. -

Hi Baarbs, try not to worry and focus on it too much, this is a long journey, I lost a good amount initially and then began to put back on even before I got to the 1st fill. I have actually joined slimming world as I realised I was already falling into the trap of eating easy soft foods which were not always that healthy (ice-cream, chocolate, etc). I realised I needed boundaries of what to eat and since then I am back on track with regular weekly losses. I am planning on this all taking at least 1 year and figure by next Christmas that all will be well. Try not to worry, best wishes MiaBlue -

Hi Jeannie I was told that I would need 1 stitch out but all of mine were dissolvable, I even got my mum to check as she is a nurse, I did in the end help one of my dissolvables along by removing it after about 2 weeks, but it was definately a dissolvable one but it was making me itch so it had to go. In my literature it said the no-resolvable one was a dark blue colour but I definately did not have one of those. Maybe I'm a bit weird, lol. best wishes MiaBlue -

I wanted to ask you all, what friends reactions were to you when you told them about having the band fitted. I have only told family and a few very close friends and am apprehensive about telling too many people in these early days. (Even some family were very against it and tried to dissuade me from getting it done) I am sure once I am near target that I will want to shout it from the rooftops but wondered what reactions you had from others. best wishes MiaBlue -

Hi 2plus4, I just followed a low fat and as low a carb diet as I could bear, like a slimming world on a meat day kind of diet. To be fair, I was not that strict and only lost a couple of pounds, which was naughty on my part. I believe that you have to follow this diet in order to lose some of the fat that sits around your liver, making it easier for the surgeon when attaching the band. In the notes I was given to hand in to my GP on my return, it did say that I had a very fatty liver. Hope that helps best wishes MiaBlue -

No regrets from me, I may not have lost much but I know I am heading in the right direction. Because I know I will be at target in maybe a year, I feel I have had a terrible burden taken from me. I never belived that I could lose weight and keep it off and therefore had given up on trying, and given up a little bit on me too. I for one have regained my sense of self once more and know that I now have so much more to look forward too in life, the sky is the limit now. -

Hi 2plus4 the only insurance I could find was through a company with the following website, www.angelisgroup.com I think I paid about £82, that was for November 2009 banding. I hope that is helpful to you best wishes MiaBlue -

Hi Baarbs, I have stuck with Dr Chris's ream too, I had 3mls on the first fill, 2mls on the second and then had to have 1ml removed as after 2 days unable to swallow my own saliva. I was advised by the nurse doing the de-fill to drink at least 2 glasses of water at the clinic just after the de-fill as if you have been over filled, you may not notice with just one glass of water. Hope thats helpful, my weight loss has been very slow though so whether or not they take that into account, I am not sure. Just to re-assure you, it is a really simple procedure which I barely felt. best wishes MiaBlue -

Just wanted to tell you of my experience last week, just to be clear this is not scaremongering, I hope this information may be useful to others. Had 2nd fill of 2mls on Thursday at London clinic, had terrible reflux the first night, went to GP who prescribed something which resolved it immediately, then drank fluids all day and evening, had a great nights sleep. When I woke up I discovered that I could not drink fluids, constantly needing to spit saliva out and vomitted, fluid bu not stomach contents. Rang emergency number for advice, they advised to get up and about and just try water. Took the dogs out for a long walk, drank water, seemed to improve, got home and it started to get worse. Rang nurse back and she advised me no choice but to come down to London, glad I did as it just continued to worsen which is what she said would happen. Immediate relief once 1ml was taken out. I think what had happened is that the reflux had caused inflammation which did not really kick in until the Saturday. There are 2 things I have taken from this (for me), one is to have some good antacids available (which in future I will start to take the night before the first fill). Secondly as the nurse advised me drink 2 cups of water (minimum) at the clinic before leaving instead of the usual 1. She said that the first cup could sit above the band and you may not realise that it is not going down, if you decide you need some out then it does not cost anything if done there and then. I would just add that I am very prone to acid reflux, always had it when overeating, which before the band was pretty constant. So drink 2 glasses is mostly what I am saying. I hope this is helpful to those new to this like myself. Best Wishes to all, good luck to all those with operations pending. love MiaBlue -
