  4. Hi Snoopy!

I have been looking for someone like me to connect with. I was banded 2 days after you. My starting weight was 324, my heaviest 356. At 249 on 6/3/08; Was up to 285 2 weeks ago and now at 275. I too eat all the wrong things and way to much of it. I easily overeat my band by drinking with meals. I don't want to stop at a small amount. Just because I feel restriction doesn't mean I am full. My mind is still saying I'm hungry and want to eat more and taste the food.

I'm sure your husband is frustrated for you . Talk to your doctor about that or get a new doctor. Sometimes I have good restriction and alot of times it seems little at all, baffling to me and frustrating!

I hope that we can keep in touch and maybe help each other out. It's comforting to hear from someone struggling like myself and banded at the same time. I hope to hear back from you soon:blush:

Not so good news post 4 years

Hello, I am sorry sorry to hear of your complications and I can only imagine the frustration you must be feeling. It does sound like possibly the doctor is at fault and it may be a malpractice issue. Possibly another opinion from a different bariatric surgeon--that's what I'd do for sure. Or maybe meet with a lawyer, some have free consultations, to see if your doctor is at fault. Maybe you can recoop some of your money or get it fixed for free, the way it should've been in the first place. I'm praying for you that you get this figured out and back on a healthy track. Best of luck!

    June 2007 Bandsters

Hello, I just found this website (although I was banded 6/29/07) and am still trying to navigate my way around it. It is nice to hear the stories from some of you that got banded the same time I did. I too have been struggling. My surgery weight was 324 and that was not my highest. A year later I hit 249 for like 1 day, until a trip to Vegas, then I got off track and have struggled the last 15 months. I was back up to 283-285 until 2 weeks ago when I finally started to pull it back together. I've been utilizing another site for food journeling and it has helped me get back on track. I've lost 10 pounds the first week which gave me great hope, now none this last week. I'm so frustrated!! It is sooooo hard to stay on track when you are not losing! Getting back into exercising is a BIG challenge for me. Any suggestions? I'd love to hear from some of those of you who are or have struggled like myself.

    It's a lie

Good point but be careful! My "extended vacation", 15 months of emotional eating, poor choices and drinking while I ate again got me no where but a 30 pound weight gain. The band doesn't fix it all unfortunately. I hate to put a negative spin on things but I don't want others to make the same mistake as myself.

    Emotional Eating

This is a tough one. I am an OB nurse and can testify on how hard it is to watch the death of a baby. I have seen alot in the past 12 years, more grief struck parents and grandparents than I care to count. It is even harder when it happens to someone close to you. One never wants to watch those we love experience pain of any sort, especially this kind. I too am a very emotional eater and have struggled greatly with binge eating since my band. I understand all too well. For me, the food makes me feel better but only temporarily. Then the guilt and remorse sets in. You are not alone. Just try to get back on the horse and push on.
  11. Hang in there! Just think, if this is all it takes to get you healthy and to be able to live a long, full life then isn't it worth it? Even though it was very unfortunate and unplanned, worse could've happened and it WILL pay off! Keep your chin up:):frown:

    Six days postop

Michelle, Hang in there! The first week is the hardest BY FAR!! I remember feeling like there was a monster inside of me, the hunger pains got soooo bad they would wake me up at night by the middle of my first week. I was so tired of all the liquids. I thought at my first week appointment that if my doctor didn't let me eat SOMETHING I would go insane! But he did and no one had to die. LOL. Don't give up, it WILL be okay. And once you can have the shakes it will be better. I had the chocolate powder from GNC and mixed it with skim milk--it was good.

so what good is the band if....

The band is a "tool" meaning it is NOT a quick fix. But it DOES make a smaller "pouch" which is your "new stomach" in a sense, meaning you will eat alot less and fill up alot quicker. Yes, you can overeat by drinking with meals, etc. You have to learn to discipline yourself and work with the band, not against it. To make better food choices. To exercise. These things aren't fun. But this is your life we are talking about. You've GOT to make a change if you want to get healthy and live. Believe me, most of us had the same questions before hand and the same fears. You are NOT alone. Just trust in yourself and your will.
