    New LBT...not liking it

Hang in there! It's always going to be something...a holiday, a birthday, anniversary, etc....and part of being banding is learning how your own body is going to react under all circumstances. It was so easy for me to put on weight - when I was happy, I ate - when I was unhappy, I ate - when I was stress-free, I ate, when I was stressed to my limits, I ate....mad, sad, ecstatic, you name the emotion, I celebrated it with food. However, I am now a better person for learning how to NOT use food as my crutch, my comfort, my weapon of choice. I made the choice to be healthier ....and no, it's not always fun to sit around a Thanksgiving table heavy with food at watch other people eat. I do, however, like to get up from that table and feel so good about myself. I like not having to unbutton my pants to accomodate my swollen stomach. I like having the energy to take a post-dinner walk with my family. I like making memories that do not revolve around food. Hang in there - this is a beginning of a whole new you! Healthier, smaller, more confident....I wish you a wonderful holiday season!

    Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to you! We all have so much to be thankful for this year! I wish you continued success!
  3. I am doing well. I so understand about the eating....putting my fork down between bites really slowed me down, and made me more aware of how fast, and how much I was eating.

  4. how are you? Hope you are recovering well!

  6. the biggest challenge for me was knowing when to stop eating...for so many years, I just ate and ate and ate. Now, that is not a possibility, even tho my brain still thinks I can eat whatever I want! However, I will never regret havng this surgery - I am so happy with the new me, and I wish I had done this sooner! At my last visit, I was down a total of 108lbs from my heaviest weight.

    When was your surgery?

Make sure you are getting enough water to drink!

  7. Hi there! Yes, I am in CT - I live in Waterford, had my surgery at St Raphaels in Oct 2009. How are you doing since the surgery?

Lesson Learned: Don't Take Anything for Granted

I am sorry that you had issues with the eye surgery - but your message you shared is so true...never take any part of this life for granted. Heal well!
  10. I find that weighing myself everyday was not good for me....however, I know several people who do weigh in daily, and they are fine. I jump on the scale on the 19th of the month, and track from there, since the 19th is the day of the month I had my surgery.

    Help!!!! I'm starving!!!!

you need be on this diet for many reasons, first and foremost, to protect your liver during surgery! The liver sits very close to the top of the stomach, in the area that will be banded - and the smaller the liver is, the less pain you have with band placement! We all have to make accomodations to the way we eat when we are banded - however, the change in our diets is what is best for our bodies! Don't fight the diet - work with it, with the realization that you are making the choice of a lifetime for yourself! Best wishes! You can do it!
