  1. WHEET!!!!!! You're back! Man, I've missed you! Thanks for telling us some little known Wheet facts. Fascinating!! No wonder you and I usually agree on politics and other things - you're BRILLIANT!! :clap2: I too belong to the mile high club, Green. Well worth the effort, I'd say. But then, any sex is better than no sex, right? :eyebrows: Just kidding. There certainly is such a thing as bad sex. Anyway, on what kind of airliner, or plane did you defile someone? Mine was a little four-seater and I made the pilot wear a blindfold. :bandit That's a joke. Glad you're back, Wheet, don't ever leave me like that again!

    Whats the worst you've heard?

L!NDS@Y: I totally agree with you. The purpose of this thread was to tell about the worst things we've had to put up with from people. I had just read so much of it I finally had to spout off. People can be completely heartless when it comes to how they treat fat people. And no one should be treated that way. Some people who have normal matabolisms and energy levels and do not have problems with insulin and all the other imbalances that many obese people suffer from have absolutely no idea what it is like to be fat and they have no idea how difficult it is for us to fight all the medical problems that make it extremely hard for us to be maintain a normal weight. They honestly think it is simple: they think that we are just lazy and have no self-control. No wonder they ridicule us. That's why I am so anxious for the medical profession and pharmaceuticals to do the research. I also know it's going to take a very long time for it to happen. So, we just have to dig in our heels and put up a fight if we need to and try our darndest not to let those insensitive creeps get us down! We're cool, you didn't offend me and I sure hope I didn't offend you! lauraj23: Remember the Beatles song where they sing, "instant karma's gonna getcha"? Sounds like your friend of a friend of a friend has been hit with some serious karma of her own. Bless her heart. (That's what we say in Texas when we feel kinda sorry for someone, but not really.) :rolleyes

I Am 60!!! Years Oldand Things are Bleak

Oooh I have to tell you that I keep tweezers handy too although I only have the occasional wild chin hair here and there. After seeing one of my relatives, I realize how bad it can get! I went to a gathering of family and had not seen this one gal in a very, very long time. SHE WAS THE BEARDED LADY!!! I kid you not! She had a full beard and it was pretty long! I have never been so shocked about the transformation of a person in all my life. She's only a few years older than I and I have no doubt that she could work for Ringling Bros if she wanted to. I just don't get it. She bragged about how she doesn't take any HRT (hormone replacement therapy - as if you don't know about that). Doctors and the media have put the fear in us about the relationship between breast cancer and HRT. However what they don't speak to is the fact that there are certain hormones that we absolutely need for optimal health as aging women. If your doctor will take the time to do the blood work and research, they can find the proper dosage of those critical hormones that will keep you from losing the good stuff but not put you in peril for getting cancer. My sister and mother both died from breast cancer and I do take HRT. But I have done enough reading and research myself, as has my doctor, that I am certain that the dose and kind of HRT that I take is not setting me up for breast cancer. And I can keep up with my chin hairs and even more importantly, I still have a very active and healthy sex life. My bones are still great and my heart is strong. There are other things going on in my body that aren't so obvious but which are vital to my overall health, that rely on the proper dosages of hormones. BTW, I had a complete hysterectomy when I was in my 40s, and I have no doubt that if I had not been able to trust my doctor and figure out the proper meds for me, I would have a beard down to my knees by now. My relative is a shining example. kacee I am glad that you are happy and proud of your full head of white hair! I have a little grey at the temples and a few wild ones here and there scattered around on the top of my head. However they are not pretty, they do not complement my normal hair color and I have no choice but to let the hairdresser do her thing every 5 or 6 weeks. My husband started greying in his late 30's and now has a beautiful thick head of white hair. Other balding men his age are very envious. My DH is quite the distinguished fellow. Lots of women tell me how attractive he is. If I had his hair, I'd be one happy camper. So I congratulate you and think you're very sharp to appreciate your beautiful, thick tresses!

    Whats the worst you've heard?

No matter how much we try to justify obesity and prove that it isn't unattractive, it is unattractive and that's why people discriminate against fat people. Fat in and of itself isn't pretty. It represents an unhealthy state of being and I'm willing to bet that most fat women don't find fat men all that tempting to jump in the sack with. Let's face it, we might find a fat guy less threatening and consequently attractive from that standpoint, but if we want to have a super-hot encounter, with all the bells and whistles (so to speak) we would undoubtedly prefer Brad Pitt to John Candy. (If John Candy were alive, of course.) So why do some women try to fool themselves into thinking that being a Plus Sized Woman should be attractive to men? Of course lots of fat women are pretty in spite of their obesity, but they are NOT pretty because they are large. I think obesity is a very complicated issue though. I don't believe that for many people it is as simple as getting on a diet and exercising. For some people that definitely does the trick and they can fight their way out of the fat suit they've put on. For others however, there are some very complicated physiological/biophysical and probably certain brain chemicals involved. If it were simple, we would all be able to adopt some behavior that "heals" us and allows us to get on with our lives. Fact is, the medical profession and pharmacuitical industry have found band-aides that work for some people but that do not work, long-term, for most of us. I look forward to the day when enough research has been done to actually crack the code of the obesity downward spiral and when all people can lead lives of optimal health and happiness.

I Am 60!!! Years Oldand Things are Bleak

green: That's a great idea. Bitter if you could get your mom interested in recording her memories for posterity, she might have a really fun stroll down memory lane. Plus like Green and her folks, I wish I could ask my parents many things now that they're gone. Before they died, I got tired of hearing the same stories over and over, bless their souls. One time I drove my Dad home to Oklahoma from Florida so he could see my sister who was gravely ill with cancer. I dreaded being cooped up in the car with him for 2 days because I knew he would tell me the same tired stories that I'd heard my entire life. I bought some books on tape and first thing on the second day, I popped one in. I was enjoying it immensely when we stopped for lunch. When we finished and got back in the car, he very quietly asked me if we could talk for a while. I think his hearing was bad enough that he had trouble understanding the tape. I said sure, we can talk awhile. All the rest of the trip my dad came up with the most entertaining stories I'd ever heard. I couldn't believe it... fantastic, wonderful tales that he had never told me before. Don't ask me how or why it happened, but it turned into a trip that I will always be thankful that I made with him. Boring it was NOT! Now that both he and my mom are gone, questions come up on a weekly basis that I wish I could ask them. You never know Bitter, it just might work! Most people love to talk about the things that they've experienced. Congrats on the new rack. Sounds terrific!

    Whats the worst you've heard?

ginger: what stupid idiots to say, "was it the knife and fork that did you in?" If they are referring to a person's weight, they should be smart enough to know that the knife and fork didn't do it, the food did.

    September Bandsters

I've been in Philly on a business trip. I've missed reading this thread and hearing from you all. I've been banded a year and I just found out that I've been fighting my band instead of using it. I've been over-filled for months. I honestly thought that the tighter you could stand the band, the faster you'd lose weight. I was completely disappointed that I wasn't losing and was so danged hungry all the time. I couldn't eat real food hardly at all and I would get so hungry that I would allow myself some ice cream or chocolate. What a mistake that was! I've only lose 40 lbs. over the entire year. I have lost and regained 5 lbs. off and on for months! I have a personal trainer and have been working much harder on both cardio as well as toning and muscle building. My arms are getting huge because I'm still so big. I weigh 179 today and I am proud to say that I ate 3 meals today. Skipping meals is not a good thing, no matter how cool it makes you feel. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that I have finally figured out how to make my band work for me and use it to help me reach my goal. When MiNi (I think) said she gives her port an affectionate pat and that she's best friends with her band just made me sad some months back. I felt like I was at odds with my band. MiNi, kareyquilts and all you others who have lost lots of weight and are feeling great - a big congratulations!! You continue to inspire me. For all of you just jumping on the bandwagon, best wishes for a great outcome.
  9. Denise: You didn't ask me but I'm going to jump in here anyway. You are too restricted. You won't necessarily lose weight if you are too restricted because if you are that tight you won't be able to eat nutritious food and you may wind up eating things that you can get down that will cause you to be extremely hungry. Like ice cream and chocolate. If you are too restricted, you can harm yourself by PB'ing and coughing so much that your band slips. This is not something that is good to just tough your way through. I finally found out that my band was too restrictive and that's the main reason I have not been able to lose weight. I thought that the more restricted you were, the quicker you'd lose weight. It just doesn't work that way for most people. And having too much restriction is very hard on you. Don't be afraid to have some of your fill removed. You won't get so dehydrated and hungry and you won't set yourself up for band slippage. Your band should not hurt or cause pain in your esophogus.
  10. Woo hoo! Resurrected the thread. Far out. Let's go! Bring on the 1/5 person of color argument.
  11. Sure it does. Allowing the mother to decide about her "baby" is fair and decent and needed.

I Am 60!!! Years Oldand Things are Bleak

A good friend of mine, Liz, has a husband with a really large schnozz. She says it's great because one day they may need it when his you-know-what gives out. Gross!!! You gotta know Liz to love her. She's a mess. Devana I have never heard the parasite thing. I'm willing to try anything!! Can you get it at a drugstore or do you have to find it online or someplace? Green, what procedure is your doc going to use to get rid of the rosacea for you?

I Am 60!!! Years Oldand Things are Bleak

green, you funny. Last night we decided to watch a very old 1957 Perry Mason episode. We couldn't get past the hilarious pointy girls on the herione. I mean they could have put an eye out!! That was sexy?? They certainly were attention getters! I have a feeling she had invested in Playtex Cross Your Heart boobie slings. Bitter: The stuff is new, or so my dermotologist said, and it is: Finacea gel, 15% (azelaic acid). I have dry skin so I have to be careful what I use and it does dry my face somewhat, but it is the first thing that has been prescribed for my rosacea that has produced any positive results. And I have used everything on the market I think. Even oral antibiotics he prescribed for it haven't helped. Green: mine started out as just red cheeks and over the past 10 years has progressed to the spotty swelling on my nose (just the past 6 months). Very weird stuff. And I had heard that was W.C.'s problem too. Also, did you notice that when the Monica Lewinsky affair was raging, Bill Clinton's nose became red and puffy? He has rosacea too. Poor bastard. A friend of mine had it many years ago and she said that after about 15 years, it just went away. Lets keep our fingers crossed, ladies!!
  14. Denise: That has happened to me before. In fact it happened the last time I got a fill. I asked about it once a while back and the fact is that he does remove everything that's in there before he adds it back. So time before last he said he put in 3 cc. and when he took it out during this last fill, he said I still had 3 cc. and that he'd add just a little more. However, it seems like I have less restriction, not more. I talked to the dietician today and she said there is just no figuring out how the fills are going to work for you. Stress is involved, as well as lots of other physical things can have an influence. I don't mean to overstep bounds here, but she said that if you are the least bit constipated, it can have an effect as well as being bloated from certain foods or even if you are dehydrated. This complicated fill thing is pretty disappointing. It's hard to lose weight regularly when there are so many components that have an impact on your restriction and appetite.
  15. In college a good friend of mine decided to learn to use a parachute and sky dive. Her first jump she broke her ankle. She was on crutches for a long time. It made me back off from the idea, but I've always been sorry that I didn't go with her and at least try it once. I have a feeling that although the broken ankle was unfortunate and uncomfortable, the thrill of the actual jump was worth it! Go for it laurend and Bubble!

Who have you had enough of ??

I have a sneaking suspicion that there is no code. The police and senator made it all up.

Who have you had enough of ??

I have a question. The news media has alluded to the tap, tap, tapping of ones foot to indicate sexual readiness, could someone enlighten me as to the code? Also, are there other indicators so one can identify a willing partner in the scenario du jour?

  23. I thought Moulin Rouge was bizzare when I started watching it and pretty much scratched my head throughout the first viewing. Then I watched it again and fell in love. It was great! I even cried. When you aren't freaked out by the nutty production, you enjoy the story, performances and music. It is probably the only movie I have ever seen that gets better every time I see it. No, unfortunately I wasn't kidding about coke, Voodoo. If it had been available and I thought it would do the trick, I probably would have tried it several years ago. Now of course, I have the band. You should understand though that I would do almost anything to be thin - stopping short of not eating, that is. This obesity thing is really wacko. Unless one has been through it, one cannot begin to understand how complex it is. I have had a really good friend who was psychic. She lives many, many miles away and we've lost touch, but having her as a friend was great. She helped me so much and was so upbeat that even though she was very unusual, I loved being around her as much as possible.
