  1. Clear liquids the day of surgery and the day after. Then 2-3 days on each of the other phases. I was back to regular foods at 2 weeks. .

    shrinking

LOL...gotta love the compliments. Last night my husband reached over and pulled me into a snuggle. After about a very quiet minute he said, "definitely less upholstery."
  3. I'm a milk hater too but after reading all the benefits of drinking a glass of milk each day, I've decided to make sure I get in an 8 oz glass. I just put it in a blender with my Protein powder and half a banana. It's not thick at all, but it's smooth and creamy. You might also try to warm it up and mix it with your sugar free hot cocoa instead of Water. .

    Before and after Food Budgets

Before the band, I spent a several hundred dollars a month eating out. In the last 6 weeks, nothing. If this keeps up, I'll probably save around $3k this next year. Whoa! .

    i need help

As Happy said...just do it. You know you can...prior experience says you can. Good luck. .
  6. J-I, Small clarification. Disagreement is not flaming. Flaming is a deliberate, hostile act of a personal nature...which my post was not. .
  7. When someone 'caves' this early, what does it say? It says that they're healing from their surgery and back to normal...nothing more. 'Caving' in now says 'nothing' about how she'll do 6 months from now when her band is working for her. Only the band was inserted at surgery...not willpower or self-control or a lack of hunger or even renewed motivation. .
  8. I wouldn't worry about it. Some people go home on mushies which says that the rules are arbitrary and vary between doctors. I went home on liquids and then spent 2-3 days on each stage and full diet at 2 weeks.
  9. Hang in there. Your pain will eventually go away...try Liquid tylenol. I held my port when I bent over for about two weeks, then that went away too. Jello isn't a problem. I had to eat something in the hospital before they'd discharge me on the day of my surgery and jello was one of the foods I had to eat. Ok...my .02 on the 'full' thing. We're so used to being 'stuffed' that we need to rethink what 'full' means. A cup of creamed soup, a container of yogurt, an 8 oz Protein Shake...all these things should keep you from being hungry for at least an hour. You can do this Laurita. .
  10. Hi Laurita, You're doing great! Don't worry about gaining a bit when you transition through the phases after surgery, it's normal. I had my surgery 11/3 and my first fill was 12/3 (I think). I go for my second fill on Thursday. No restriction yet. .
  11. Right now I have a 3 cc fill and am getting my second fill on Thursday. I do not have restriction but since the first fill, I can no longer eat the european style breads (chewy with a crunchy crust). They stick. Oh...and this morning I made scrambled eggs and they went down a bit hard even though I've never had problems with them before. .
  12. Of course not...but it will stop you from eating half the cake. Yes, you can eat chocolate cake and anything else you want *but* if the band is doing its job, you won't be able to eat those things in excess. The band will stop you...either because you will end up in serious discomfort or pain because you've eatent too much and have to stop or because you will learn the signs for 'full' and stop prior to that point because you know what will happen if you don't. As one poster said in another thread...now she eats just one piece of pizza instead of half a pizza.
  13. Actually, what you eat the first 24 hours after a fill varies according to doctors. Mine has no restrictions but common sense...good choices, chew thoroughly, take small bites, stop eating that food if you're having difficulty and eat something softer. Another person on this forum said she's on liquids for 2-3 days, then mushies for 3 days.
  14. To answer your question, you need to honestly ask yourself why you haven't lost more than 35 lbs in 3 years. Is it because your band wasn't doing its job...or you weren't doing yours? As for having it repaired...stats say that 44% of bands fail within 10 years. I've already said that if I'm one of that 44%, I will change over to a gastric sleeve rather than looking at more potential surgeries in the future.
  15. I eat 6 meals a day (every 3 hours). During the week, I do Protein shakes for all but 1 (dinner) meal. On the weekends, I usually have two eggs and two slices of turkey bacon for Breakfast, a 'salad' type lunch with protein in my salad or tuna salad (yes I use real mayo) in a tomato or something similar and a regular dinner of about 4 oz protein, a cup of steamed vegies and 1/4 cup of potatoes, rice or Pasta. The other 3 'in-between' meals are a low carb/low cal Protein Drink. It helps keep my blood sugar stable. I guess some people would call them Snacks. These in between meals can also be a hardboiled egg, 2 oz of cheese, 1/4 cup cottage cheese. Basically something with protein that would help keep the blood sugar stable. .

    can I drink sugar-free cocoa

There shouldn't be a problem with sugar free cocoa. I can't help with the pureed foods. I only had to be on them for 2 days and I chose to just drink protein shakes since nothing pureed appealed to me at all. .
  17. Umm...I think that's exactly what the band was designed to do...keep us from eating too much. That's exactly how it worked for me when I had restriction (due to still being a bit swollen) after surgery. I was able to eat solid foods 2 weeks after surgery, but the band kept me from overdoing it. I pretty much had to bypass bread completely. Even now, with no restriction but 3 cc's in my band, french bread is a no-no. When I had restriction, I would stop after a small meal because of the fullness/sense of pressure caused by the band. It really has nothing to do with hunger for me because I've never had a hungry day in my life. It's more of quantity control. Something needs to remind me to stop or there will be *immediate* consequences to pay. .

    spouse sabotage!

I would just confront him with it and say, "Honey, I know you love me so why do you keep bringing me things I can't and shouldn't have?" Make him verbalize and justify his actions. There could be many reasons. Has he been your eating buddy in the past? It may be that he's mourning the loss of that relationship. Some spouses fear their partner will change as a result of losing weight and are fearful of losing them...so subconciously try to maintain the status quo. Some of us truly have a problem with equating food with comfort. You said when you're sad or upset he brings you food. Sounds like he's trying to comfort you and knows this worked in the past. I like Astrasmom's suggestion. Give him a list of food you know you can have (sugar free Jello, etc.) if he really feels the need. .
  19. Wondering if anyone has had or is having the same problem I am. I had my surgery on 11/3 and did extremely well postop. Yesterday, keeping in mind I'm almost 6 weeks postop, I was pulling a book out of a box of books on a shelf over my head and tilted the box a bit too far. The whole thing did a gradual slide off the shelf into my arms causing me to take on about 50 pounds. I felt the stress in my port area as the muscles bunched and could do little more than turn with the box in my arms and drop it onto the roller table. Since then though, the soreness around my port area has been getting worse. Today, any movement involving those muscles is a bit painful...sitting, standing, lifting particularly. Bending forward...forget it. I think the area may be just a bit inflamed but am wondering if there's a way to deal with this. It's not an emergency so I don't want to bother my doc or staff over the weekend and will call them on Monday, but until then...any ideas are welcome for how to deal with what is most likely just inflammation. .
  20. Just curious, but why would they totall unfill you? Or do you mean they took all of the .4cc back out? .
  21. Ditto. I'll consider it a successful holiday season, weight wise, if I don't regain anything I've lost to this point. Bonus if I actually lose, but not setting any goals. Good luck to all of you! .
  22. I went back to work the next day (desk work) and then worked in my warehouse from the 2nd day on, although within my lifting restrictions. My husband took my day of surgery off, but that was it. I really didn't need any 'caretaking'. .
  23. How long did it take you to eat that sandwich? If it took you more than 30 minutes, I'd (my .02 only) classify that as 'grazing' and the band won't stop us from doing that. If you could tuck it all in during the 20-30 minute meal time without feeling any sense of fullness, I'd call and talk to your doc and ask him why you have no problem with eating food, but you're having difficulty swallowing your own saliva. It may have nothing to do with your band being 'too tight'. .
