    Surprise ! Surprise ! Surprise!

WOW what can one say? I started this journey with a view to not weighing myself between doctors visits so as to not sabotage myself with the daily fluctuations in weight (only one sneek peek to set up my ticker LOLL).... So off I went to see my Doctor yesterday for my first weigh in and to my surprise I had lost 10kg since being banded that makes a total of 18kg that is HUGE! I am pleased with that result but I am under no illusions that this amount of weight loss will keep up and it will begin to slow down but hey it took a lot longer to get there and stay there so slow and steady wins the race...... I had my first fill yesturday 1ml that makes a total of 4ml that was another surprise as I felt like I had no restriction and was only eating small portions and feeling hungry I didn't realise I had anything in the band.... anyway it has made a lot of difference to my appetite today and I am back to the Doc's every two weeks until christmas so that should keep me well on track..... :crying:

It's nice to know we are not isolated down under and we can meet people from near and far right here in our lounge rooms, that are going through the same experiences as us ..... good luck with your journey keep me posted with your progress we are at the same starting weight it would be good to compare notes and keep each other motivated on this fantastic journey we have begun. First day after Op 20th Oct 2009

HI DaniRea, I made a pact with myself not to weigh myself between doctors visits as I believe your weight fluctuates too much and you can loose cm's and not kg's.....I had surgery 3 weeks ago and my clothes are a getting looser by the week so if that is any indication I reckon I am doing well...... I have my first doctors visit next Tuesday wish me luck :crying: .... I reckon I am down between 10-15kg so far but I don't expect that that I will keep on loosing like this forever just that I like you have a lot to loose so it should come off in the begining.... good luck and keep us posted on your journey Dewberry  P.S I have walked everyday since my surgery steadily increasing, I am now up to 2km ......I know it's not a marathon but for someone who was actually born allergic to exercise (loll) I reckon I am doing okay:tongue2:

    Not done yet and scared???

Hi Jackie, I like you have struggled with my weight for many many years and it was a decision that was made after many questions and research and I do feel it was the best choice for me. I'm not sure what your surgeon does but mine is very big on educating you. Before you can make an appointment to see him you must attend an information session where they tell you all about the surgery show you the band etc and have people that have had the surgery speak and you can ask questions. They also have followup after surgery he wants you to commit to seeing him monthly for the first year after surgery and then he arranges what he thinks is best for you but he likes to see you at the very least every six months and this is a commitment for the rest of your life. I believe this is a great way for surgeons to help us their clients to get the best from our bands by way of being able to monitor how we are coping with our new way of life and being able to address problems if and when they arrise. Prof Paul O'Brien is my surgeon he has written a book that he gives out at his information sessions called The Lapband solution A patnership for weightloss He calles it your bible and requests you read and re read it time and time again it is a easy read and answers a lot of questions he also has a website www.lapbandaustralia.com I hope this is of some help best of luck with whatever decision you make. my incisions

My port hole incision opened up completly last Friday (2 weeks post op) I went to emergency department they put steristrips (like butterfly clasps) on it with a waterproof dressing over the top Doc had a look on Monday and it is healing fine ..... Now and in the past I have used Vitamin E oil on my scars it keeps the area supple and they heal very quickly, currently I am useing a an oil by the name of INVITE E but in the past I have bought Vitamin E capsules and squeezed the oil out of the capsule onto the scars. I had 2nd and 3rd degree burns and you can not see where it was at all now and the doctors were amazed at how well I healed and I sware by it ....good luck I hope you heal well

  13. I had been out shopping today when I got home I came in through my front door which is very unusual for us country folk we always use the back door ...anyway on the way in I brushed up against the door my shirt caught on the key so I brushed my hand down my front and relised I had opened up my port hole opening didn't hurt but shocked the pants off me  ....... anyway I got some sterile dressing clamped it closed and went off to the local Emergency Department as I live 2.5 hours from my surgeon......they fixed me up and sent me on my way..... I spoke with the surgeons office on the way to the hospital and they advised me this can sometimes happen so I am not stressed about it I will call them Monday to see if I need to go for a drive and have him look at it for me. On a lighter note I am doing really well I have vowed not to weigh myself until my doctors visit on yhe 27th October but the temptation is just about killing me .... my clothes are getting looser and looser people are already commenting so all is good this end.

    getting closer

Hi, I had my surgery 11 days ago I started walking around the ward 3 hours after surgery and have walked on my treadmill daily since now up to 2.5km a day, My surgeon advises to get up and about as soon as you can as it helps the healing process and he says that you can drive as soon as you are moving around freely.... I started driving 5 days post op. This may not be the same for everyone but in my case I think the walking has made a great contribution to the way I am healing as I feel great..... Best of luck Dewberry

  18. Hi I am day 10 post op and only had shoulder pain for a couple of days, totally gone now and hopefully a thing of the past. My surgeon promotes getting active ASAP and I have taken his advise on board and been walking on my treadmill daily and I believe this has really helped with the healing process as I feel great. I will quote some information on the shoulder pain from a book I was given before the proceedure which I refer to if I am unsure of what is going on inside my body..... it's called the Lapband Solution ....The shoulder pain actually comes from the diaphram, which is a large sheet of muscle that seperates the chest, with its heart and lungs, from the abdomen. It is called referred pain because it comes from the diaphram and the brain interprets it as coming from the left shoulder and you feel sore there. ........ I hope that is of some help to you and that your shoulder pain is relieved soon. Dewberry
  19. I am a little tender in the stomach and the leg numbness hasn't eased any which is frustrating me to no end.... No hunger today made some great fresh fruit juice and home made chicken soup in the blender this has kept me going all day it is truely amazing when you think about it how little food we actually need the human body is an amazing thing. I've been up and about today doing a little house work, I feel a little tired but overall I'm feeling great. I have been reading a lot of blogs and most people seem to be in a lot of discomfort and pain in the first few weeks and have trouble with liquids..... I must have a great surgeon or be very lucky and be blessed with a great pain threshhold to those in pain I wish you all well and hope it will soon pass ........ 1.2km today on the treadmill walking my way to good health  Dewberry

  23. Well what can I say I am 6 days post op and I never thought I would feel this good . I stayed with freinds the first few days as I live a few hours drive from Melbourne and felt the drive might be a bit to much to handle.... I was a little tender and emotional the first couple of days but since returning home to my own bed and surroundings I am getting on with it and can't believe my recovery I am really shocked at how good I feel.... When I returned home I started walking on my treadmill, I started off at only a 150 meters but have worked my way up to a Kilometre today this is actually amazing because I hate excercise as anyone of my friends will tell you "Born allergic" thats what I always say but my surgeon said the quicker you can get active the easier it will be on your recovery...well I am glad to report he really does know best and I am feeling amazing..... ThanX Doc The liquids only is going well ......I truely believe it is all a mind game we play with ourselves I don't feel hunger but would love to eat something because that is a habit I have had for a long long long time but a habit that I might just be able to break now....well I will have to eat something but you all know what I mean. Anyway thats me for now I am glad I found this forum to join even though I am in Australia I am sure our experiences will be the same and the sharing of stories and support will be appreciated. I have a question has anyone ever had leg numbness after surgery? My legs are numb from the top of my leg to my knee at the front .... Weird I know but just curios if anyone else has had this as it is really driving me nuts
  24. I had my band placed on the 28th Sept and I to live a few hours from where I had surgery... I stayed in hospital one night then with a friend the following night then we drove home...... I was a sore and tired when I got home but after some pain relief and a sleep I felt a whole lot better.... I too would like to eat something even though I don't feel hungry but that is just a old habit we have to break ..... goodluck with support from friends, family and this forum I am sure we will make it
