  1. Thats right! We will be doing this together. But you are much closer to goal then me! Look at you only 4 lbs left!!!!!
  2. Ok I had an apointment with my surgeon today and we where talking about leaks. She said that the main things that put otherwise healthy people at rist for leaks is smoking cigaretts, consistent drinkers, and marajuan users. It went right over my head at the time since that doesn't apply to me. But when I went to talk to my cousin who is also considering the sleeve about it she became concerned since she is a habitual pot smoker! LOL (I tolder her that is probably why she isn't loseing weight :001_tongue:). Dose anyone know why that is? I mean why it can cause a higher risk of leaks? It kind of seems weird to me lol!

    Supper Silly Q's...

Thank you all! This is good to know and the information makes sense.
  4. Congrats on the weight loss Tamra!!!!!
  5. I went to my apt. today and it was a bundeled appointment with the Nutritionist first, then Dr. Chu (My Sergeon), and then my Case Mgr. It lasted 3 hrs. My Nutritionist was impressed by my food logs which I just printed from myfitnesspal.com, and also was empressed that I lost 7 lbs since my orrientation on 11/22/09. She wants me to eat more carbs though! When I saw Dr. Chu, she said that my goal weight was 225, which means that I have 18 more lbs. to go. Not bad, may take some time, but not a bad goal. So here is the big news she gave me though, I can not have RYN or the Band. Because I am alergic to acetaminophen, and must use a NSAIDs for any pain manegment, which will cause ulcers for the RYN (which I new) and also give me a high risk for errosion as well as ulcers for the band (did not know), that my only option is the sleeve at this point. It was overall a good day and I think that I am going to do it. I got all of my recomended Vitamins and I'm getting ready to set my mind to it...

Now I was leaning that way before but I was still in a limbo up untill she made me aware of this. I had gotten different answers on this board and other boards so I was not sure. But at any rate, this is what I needed to make up my mind. I realy like all of you and hope that you don't mind me staying as well I think that all of you have a lot of experience and knowledge to offer a newbie like me! Thanks for listening

  8. Good Mornin' Everyone!!! Ok so I let my TOM get to me last night and had some brownies!!!! EEEEKKKKKK! I'm so bad... Ok it's a new day! Riley - You look soo great in that picture! If I did not read this thread and saw that pic, I would have never known you had been anything but the skinny cute chick I see  Ok I found out about this blog through RYN-ers, and the writer is a RYN-er, but she has great ways to get in protine (SP)... theworldaccordingtoeggface Nicole- She even has a cheese cake recipie on her site! Lee- How are you doing? B-fast is the same as yesterday .... 1/2 c. cottage cheese 1/2 canned peaches Oh... Gona do some Wii fit today so yeah for me!
  9. And it's on Wed. too so I will see how it is and let you all know!
  10. They bundle them up in Fremont I supose, when I called and asked for my surg. consult apt after orrientation, they said that I will have all three and to bring a 3 day food log...
  11. Thanks Tiffy!!!! Behemoth- I feel as though I am in the same boat as you. I am 5'-4" and 250 lbs 2.5 weeks ago (been trying to lose my pre-op weight.) I am an otherwise healthy person. I do have fertility issues, but I have nothing to complain about since I have 2 wonderful boys that are 3 & 1.5 years old. I'm about to be in my mid 20's also. So I too have a long lifetime to live for and I am concerned about the longevity of the WLS with VSG. I plan on living till I'm 80ypu know lol! I have so many questions that swarm my head... "What if I get stomach cancer and I only have a small stomach, they will have to remove the whole thing!" or "Can I realy live a full life with a limited portion of food? Without the fear of gaining the weight back since this is a once in a lifetime procedure?" I know that I want to weigh less to enjoy my life with my boys, prevent myself from getting other problems due to my obesity, ect. But part of me can't help but think of the fact that I am risking my life and the happiness of my boys lives. I supose that I would not be human if I did not feel that way right? Are there any other parents out there that have felt this way, do feel this way? oWhat are you doing or have you done to cope with this?
  12. Tamra- I'm rooting for you!!! I checked my weight on my Wii Fit board and it says 243, so thats -7lbs from Kaiser's orrientation... Not bad considering it the first day of my TOM too.... Hmm whats with us all have this issue the same week? LOL! I did good so far, I did snack on 1.5 oz dry roasted peanuts & a handfull of goldfishies too but dinner will be a success I can feel it ....
  13. I wish my scale was 1+ lbs more lol!!! Ok here is my lunch: 2 Salmon Burger Patties 1/2 tomato 1/2 Cup Pinto Beans
  14. Tiffykins, Do you have any links to the articles that you have found with partial gastrectomies not related to WLS? I would love the information on the longevity of a partial stomach. Thanks!
  15. Oh and so far today I had for B-fast: 1/2 a cup Cottage Cheese 1/2 a cup peaches (from a can but in water and juice not syrup)
  16. Ok so I messed up with my food on Sunday!!!! But I am doing better today :willy_nilly: I'm tryin to be at least under 5 lbs by wed. for my apt....my scales says 6lbs lost but I know that the Kaiser ones always weigh me at more...
  17. Oh and they did not have a scale at the meeting! LOL so now I have to wait till my surgeon apt on Wed. I want to lose a few more lbs by then... Suggestions?
  18. Hi Ladies, I went to the Fremont WLS support group last night. every post op there was RYN. One of the post-ops runs a yahoo group for the Fremont Kaiser WLS group. She said that they have 2 sleevsters in the group but they were not there for me to ask questions. She said that there is 7 years of research for it in the US though and I am going to ask her to help me find that information before I make my mind up. Also no one there was banded. Of the pre-ops that where there, no one wanted the band, it was all RYN and 1 person who was set on the sleeve. It was awkard, I was the youngest there and I was asking so many questions! LOL! I'm going to the Antioch one on the 23rd. When is the next one in Richmond? Lee- The Cranberry Pomegranete Juice is 2 carbs and 5 calories. I watered mine down and only used half of the recomended serving size too. I am so happy for you
  19. lee, I am so happy for you! I'm replying on my Black berry so I will talk to you latter!
  20. Lee- I am so excited for you!!!! you will be in my thoughts all day so please post when you get back. I posted on the LapBand board yesterday, but I have been so busy lately! I have been doing my best with my diet, I just haven't been able to stay under 1200 cal. consistently. But I am doing good with avoiding bad carbs. My scale says that I am down 9lbs. but I think it's a liar lol! I am going to the Fremont Kaiser WLS support group meeting tonight, so I know they might have a scale and we will see! Hopefully I will get some more questions answered! Keep me updated
  21. Hi everyone... I've been busy and have only had time to read your post but no replies lol! Everyone seems to be doing great  Good luck Lee on your apt in the AM!!!! I have my fingers crossed for you! I don't know if my scale is a liar but it says I am down 9 lbs since orientation. I guess I will see tomorrow night since I am going to the Fremont WLS meeting @ 6....Maybe they will have a scale. Fremont is an hr away from me but I need to go to meetings and see what they are all about!
  22. Push for what you want Lee! I was told by the receptionist at the Fremont Kaiser that they don't just give the sleeve to anyone either, but if you know it's the best for you then I say go for it-Put up a good fight! Hey check out this link, it's letting me know that I am consuming way more carbs then I need to lol!!! Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com ...It's helping me keep a log, I have to bring one on the 16th.
  23. Hi Lee! Glad to hear you are back and safely at that! I hear you about the weight gain!!!!! But I suppose who on this site doesn't. I'm excited that your appointment is coming so soon. I have been doing well on my diet during the day but I get caught up at night!!!! I really want to go into my appointment with a 5lb. weight loss...I can do that right? Hehehe!! I think that I am sold on the sleeve too. I just can't see getting the band and expecting problems within 5 years or less you know? And I can't have RYN so that leaves the sleeve huh! Well we can do this! Lets keep each other posted and accountable for our pre-op weight loss ok! Talk to you soon
  24. Hi my Kaiser Buddies!!!! I have my Consult apt. for my Surgen, Nutritionist, and Psych. on the 16th. for Fremont Kaiser. I called and asked the receptionist which surgen has done the most VSG. She said that it was Dr. Christine Chu. Then she told me that they don't just give the VSG to anyone. So I told her that since I can not have the RYN because of my alergy to Tylenol and how I'm not fond of the band anyways that this is what I'm looking for. She said I could get my apt. schedualed if I wanted to so I said yes! She said it would be 3 hrs. long and I needed to bring a 3 day food log, all my viatamines, and my meds. So today I have started my diet, mostly low carbs since it is hard for me to follow the low 1200 cal. one. I also took my boys for a walk (650 steps/.25 mile) and I will do 45 min on my Wii EA Sporst active today as well. For Breakfast I ate 3.5 hard boiled eggs, 1 low fat string cheese and 1/4 bannana. So far so good right? I'm thinking that they will say I need to lose 25 lbs which is 10% of my weight. How is everyone doing?

    About Me:

My name is Ashley and like many others I have been over-weight for most of my life. I have lost count on the amount of diets that I have been on. I have been think and researching weight loss surgery with Kaiser for over 3.5 years now. Initial Kaiser only offered RYN. Right now they offer RYN, Lap Band and the Sleeve. I wanted the band at first, but I started to get hesitant once I trully researched all the complications and Band to Sleeve revision stories. Since I am so extreemly worried about leaving my 2 baby boys with out a mother, I was leaning towards RYN because it has been arround for so long and Kaiser has done so many of them successfully. But after my required orrientation, I realized that I can not do the RYN. You see I am alergic to acetometiphine. After a patient has an RYN, they can no longer take NASQIDS for pain relife and must use acetometophin because of ulcers. Kaiser, my insurance, has sent me to their Fremont facility (one of the 4 Northern California facilities other then Richmond, S, SF, and Fresno.) At the orrientation the surgen stated that he has only done 7 VSG but with NO leaks. He also said that they preform all surgeries with 2 surgens present. They have 3 surgens on staff in the WLS department. I know that each surgery has it's complications and posses a risk, but I am concerned that I will either put my family through too much or die. These thoughts overwhelem me daily and I don't think that I would be a good mother if I wasn't concerned. I know there is alot more to the depth of these issues and I am sure that I will get to them in my own tim. Right now I plan on working on my 10% and reaching that goal as best I can. I also want to continue to reasearch VSG as it may be my only WLS option. I also will look into the all the surgens statistics at the Fremont facility so that I can make the most educated decision I can. These are my goals that I will start working on by Monday! PS. I am the worst speller ever and I don't want to donload the spell checker!!! LOL
