I am pre-banded right now and I find that everytime I try to tell anyone about having gastric banding done they automatically assume gastric bypass. I have an aunt who had gastric bypass done years ago and she ended up having a bad surgery and has had trouble ever since. So I naturally want everyone to know right off the bat that it is not anything like gastric bypass. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to tell friends and family without going right into explaining that this is not bypass?

Great ideas!thank you so much for your input. I will print some info today.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I also thought why not call from the neighbors to wake someone up to unlock the door before you got there? Well, at least you got home.

ROFLMAO.... Dawg I am sure P'Nut would not want you to look like that either. It would be a huge tranformation though!!

Hi all, I am not banded yet. I am waiting untill 09/11 for the next seminar to get the ball rolling. I have been looking here and getting some great information. As I look around I am wondering why two people can be banded on the same date and have as much as a 30lb difference in thier weightloss? I know that not everyone looses at the same rate but I thought is would at least be closer. I guess that my concern is that I want to loose as much as I can and I am wondering if there is somethings that works better than others. Thank you. -

Thank you both very much. Dawg, I am planning on attending the support groups that p'nut has been so gracious to invite me to. I am glad to see that there is support in Boise. I totally plan on exercise and self control. I was just curious as to why the huge difference. I can see what is meant by the 90lb vs. 200lb it makes sense. I have also read that the exercise and water can help with the skin sagging. Do you find this to be true? My whole plan is lots of water (as allowed), gym membership with personal trainer who is familiar with banding and healthier choices for meals. Anything else that is recommended. Thanks again for your help. -
How did you choose your goal weight?
idahobeauty replied to jillian's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have not been banded yet but from what I can gather, you need to calculate a your BMI and your ideal weight is at an acceptable BMI number. Like I said, I think this is the case. Hope this is right. -
Hello, I am new to your forum and think that this is the greatest source of information. I am considering having banding done. I will give you some background. I am 37 years old. I am 5'10" and weigh 246lbs. My bmi is 37.9 and I have obstructive sleep apnea and type 2 diabetes. I have had my tubes tied and therefore do not plan on anymore children. I am married with a 14 year old son. I have several reasons for wanting banding done. 1st and foremost, I am concerned about my health. 2nd, I feel hungry ALL the time. I do maintain a heathy diet about 90% of the time but because of the hunger I feel like a human garbage disposal. I have tried diet after diet after diet and nothing works long term. I am sure my story is not unlike most of everyone here. I would just like to know how you have progressed with banding and how it has worked for you. Thank you.

Linda, Eagle! lots of people close to me here. I would love to come and talk to you all!! I am going to be gone this thursday to Portland for work but I would love to catch the next one if is ok for a non-bander (yet) to attend. I am struggling with telling anyone in my family (except my husband of course) about my intentions because I am not sure I want to hear the opinion that they have. I guess it is all things I will have to deal with. Thank you again Susan

I am hoping that I can also get off insuling and my cpap machine once I loose this weight. I was told that my apnea was due to genetics but I am not sure how much of that I really believe. I tend to think that it would get better if I were thinner. If your daughter would like to send me a PM I would love to hear from her.

Susan, Thanks, I am really glad to have found this area. I am glad to see that there is someone else in Boise and that they have had great experiences with Dr. Cahn. I am sorry to hear about your experience with St. Als. I have a friend who does med transcription there. I have always gone to St. Lukes and have been thrilled with the care there. Like I said, I guess I will sign up for the seminar in Sept and see where that leads me. Thanks again for all your information so far. Susan
