Thanks for the replies. I did some internet searches too and found them to be comparable. That is why I was asking to see if first hand information showed any differences.

Optifast and blood sugar
sndycnrd replied to Sandman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should discuss this with your endocronologist (sp?) before hand. They may want to adjust your meds so that you do not go too low. Also, check your blood sugar level 4 to 5 times a day. Best of luck.:cursing: -
Welcome JOAG08. I hope you are feeling well after surgery. I am right behind you on the 29. Is there anything you want to share about the experience?

I got my date this morning – Jan 29. I have to go to the doctor’s office tomorrow to pick up my pre op diet stuff. Yum, shakes. I will meet with the surgeon on the 26th and we will go over stuff. I can ask all of my last minute questions at that time. When I started back in August, it seems like the band was sooooooo far off. I had to complete a 3 month diet as well as all of the usual testing. The whole process took approximately 5 months. Good luck to all. I hope everyone is doing well.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of IL- recent experiences?
sndycnrd commented on staccoop3's blog entry in Blog 82330
I have BCBS of IL and recently finished my 3 month diet. My file was submited and approved 2 weeks later. There was no problem at all. Just follow the program the doctors office lays out for you. Actually, the 3 month diet went well and I lost 30 lbs. -

South Suburban Chicago bandster - new here!
sndycnrd replied to kweb17's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Kristin, my name is Sandy and I am also going to the Kane Center. Dr Rantis is my surgeon. I have finished the 3 month diet requried by BCBS and am currently going through the last of the testing that is required before getting a date. I expect it will happen later this month. I attended the support group meeting this morning. Were you there? -
You are absolutely beautiful! You must be so proud. Congratulations:biggrin:

Short-Term Disability Approval/Denial
sndycnrd replied to alicia3138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a shame that the edit button allows such extreme editing as what the OP did to this post. I read the original posts as they were being posted and what remains now is nothing, I mean nothing, like the original posts. They have been cleaned up immensely which now makes the subsequent posts appear heartless. The original post showed clear intent to defraud the STD insurance. She then used stereotypical hate to justify her fraudulent intent. It now seems that the replies are out of proportion to the OP. Unfortunately, there is no way to judge one way or the other with what remains. :smile2: -
1/3 of the way there - It is a Happy New Year!
sndycnrd posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weighed myself this morning and, Holy Cow, I am a third of the way to my goal of losing 100 pounds!!:w00t::tongue2: I haven't been banded yet but that should happen later this month. I lost the 33 pounds since my initial consultation. I was required to do a 3 month medically supervised diet by my insurance company. I was disappointed at first because I wanted to move forward NOW. However, I am glad to have had the time to learn the bandster rules of eating through this forum and my supervised diet. I didn't think the supervised diet would be effective but I was wrong. It helped me to think about, and visualize what being banded is all about. They had me practice the banded lifestyle and make changes to my way of thinking. It also helped to form better habits. What I mean is that I have formed many of the eating habits that I will need before having to live with them. It has been a great help. I look forward to being banded and losing the next 67 pounds. I feel so much better now that I can't imagine how I will feel at goal. I have so much more energy and it is much easier to move. It can only get better.:smile2: -
I have never heard of that brand but would be interested in knowing the outcome of your fitting. Please post back with the results.

My wife is scheduled for surgery...concerned
sndycnrd replied to rej1977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be there for her. Hold her hand. Listen - don't talk, dont' scold, just listen. Don't be the food police. Listen. Let her tell you everything - don't judge - just listen. Oh, did I mention, just listen. Don't bring her trigger foods into the house. Tell her you love her no matter what. For, goodness sakes, LISTEN. -
My favorite are spanx. They are costly but they last forever. I get the ones that go up to my bra and have never had a rolling problem.

Random question...anyone have the Wii Fit?
sndycnrd replied to lydialynch's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a Wii fit plus for Xmas too. I just bought Jillian Michaels game and tried it for the first time today. She kicked my butt! It has made a difference - I am moving. I am exercising. That is a huge change! -
Congratulations! I bet that was a fun shopping trip.:smile:

LOL!!! My DH pulled the same "pantsing" on me. Oh my gosh, I was so embarassed that I went out the next day and bought not one but two pair of blue jeans. Since then, I have also started wearing a belt (just in case).:Dancing_wub:

from consultation to surgery
sndycnrd replied to Mel Mel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5 months from seminar to surgery. That includes a 3 month medically supervised diet and all the other requried tests. Insurance approval took exactly 2 weeks from the time it was submitted. I have BCBS. -
Call your insurance company and ask if they use the beginning weight or the weight at the time of surgery. I fell below a BMI of 35 (with comorbidities) on my 3 month medically supervised diet. My insurance, BCBS of IL uses my beginning BMI of 38 not my current BMI of 34.8. I just got approved 2 days ago so I know this is not a problem with my insurance. The insurance girl at my doctors office told me that Aetna is the only insurance that does not use the beginning weight but uses the weight at the time of paperwork submission. Just to put your mind at ease give your insurance a call.

Hi, I wanted to introduce myself, name is Sandy. I am 52 years old and live in the Chicago area. I am currently working through my 3 month diet and am looking forward to being banded late Dec or early Jan. My goal is to lose 100 lbs. I started training for a 5k run in April. LOL, it will probably take me that long to work up to it. It would be great to have someone to share the experience with. We can do this!

80 Pounds Gone- half way to goal:)
sndycnrd replied to mellabella78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love boots too however, one pair at the half way point just is not enough:w00t:. I suggest one pair at 25% another at 50% another at 75% and the whole dang outfit plus another pair at 100%. Of course you will also need a night out on the town to show off all of your new stuff as well as the new you! Plan big:thumbup:. -
Quandry.. for air travel.. what to eat
sndycnrd replied to Patterba's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been able to buy muscle milk at the gift shop. This is after the security check so it is ok to bring on board the airplane. The other thing I like to do is pack some turkey lunch meat and a slice of cheese in a cold pack container. I hope you enjoy your trip!
