Dr. George Kerlakian - Has anyone in the Cincinnati area had LapBand Surgery with Dr Kerlakian
AngieW_RN replied to murphy5's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm a nurse and I take care of a handful of Dr. Kerlakian's patients. He's a great surgeon with a great bedside manner. When I decided to have a lap band, he was the only choice for me. Everyone in his office has been helpful and supportive. I've having my band next Friday on October 9th and I can't wait! -

Doing horrible on the pre-op diet...Anyone else?
AngieW_RN replied to LAURIE290's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
According to my surgeon's office, all that matters is that you lose and do not gain during the pre-op medically managed weight loss program. I worked with my dietitian to make a list of goals and decide which ones to work on at which times. For instance, I needed to give up drainking diet soda, so for the first month I limited it to one a day, then one on days that I work, and then finally none. I didn't lose much weight, but it eased me inot the lifestyle changes that I needed to make before my surgery, and I think that is the point of the 3 or 6 month waiting period. I only lost 5 pounds in 4 months and my insurance approved me within a day of getting my info. So, 12 pounds in 4 months sounds great! My advice to you is to make a list of goals, and decide what you can do before surgery to achieve them. -
Surgery Is Getting Closer...and Pre-Op Diet is Going Great!
AngieW_RN posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Everyone! I'm Angie and I'm a 25 year old RN. I started my lap-band process in May and I'm getting banded 10-9-09! My surgeon requires a 2 week pre-op diet and its going great--I'm never really full, but I'm not starving either and I've lost 8 pounds in 4 days!!!!!:seeya: -
Hey everyone! I'm so glad I found this thread. My surgery date is October 9th--I can't wait. It'll be nice to have a place to chat with people who have surgery the same time as me and understand what I'm going through! Today is day 4 of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet, its not fun, but tollerable...and the weight is melting off!!!

I'm scheduled for October 9th--can't wait!!! -
I'm on day 4 of my 2 week pre-op diet and I've lost 8 pounds! I have 4 Unjury protein shakes per day (2 with 1 cup of skim milk and 2 with water or crystal light), 1 cup V8 juice, 1 pk low-sugar oatmeal, 1/2 cup fat free sugar free pudding, 6-8 oz sugar free fat free yogurt, 1/2 cup fo fruit or 1 cup berries, and 1 cup of vegetable soup (I've been having 1/2 a can of Progresso Light). I'm hungry, but I'm not starving by any means. And watching the weight dop so quickly is a great motivation!!!! In another week, my attitude toward the liquid diet may not be as good though!

Tired of People Saying: "You Really Don't Look Lika You Need That!!"
AngieW_RN replied to ncarreras's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going through the same thing! A lot of people keep telling me that I'm not big enough for the surgery or that I should just try diet and exercise first--as if I haven't tried that!!!
