    Gym Work-Out Routine, need suggestions

I like to do circuit training. You can find a lot of circuit training programs, some that you need a gym for and some that you don't. The point is to do strength training and aerobic activity at the same time, moving quickly from one exercise to the other. For instance, today I did this circuit: 10 min warm up on elliptical shoulder press rows squats 3 min on bike bench press lateral raises dumbell flies leg extentions 3 min jogging on treadmill 10 min cool down on treadmill stretching I do about 20 reps of each, then move on to the rest. I try to do the circuit twice. I wear a heart rate monitor and I burned 500 calories in 45 minutes!

    T-minus 12 days

Load up on vitamin c and stay as far away from sick people as possible! I practically kept myself in a bubble the 2 weeks before surgery--its one of the downfalls of having surgery in the cold and flu season! Best of luck with the pre-op diet (if you have one)!

    Port Pain and Cough Damage

Wherever you feel the pain when you cough is most likely where the port it. Sometimes it helps to use a pillow or even your hand to apply pressure to the area where the port is while you cough.

    Post surgey pain

I have a rash around all of my incitions, its a reaction to the tape. If tis red, bumpy, and itch, its a rash. If the incision itself is swollen, warm, red, and oozing anything, get it checked out--that may be an infection. It sounds like you are not getting enough calories or Protein, you may need to speak with your dietician and make sure that you are eating (or drinking) correctly.

    New Year, New You Challenge!

I'm in--I just don't really know what a realistic goal is since I'm so recently banded. I'll just aim high and do my best to achieve it!

    puree phase

I made some chicken noodle soup today and it pureed pretty well. I've also been eating yogurt and blended cottage cheese. A couple of nights ago, my boyfriend blended me 1/2 a hamburger with some schedded cheese and mashed potatos. I thinned it out with a little bit of chicken broth and it make like 3 delicous meals. Also, I made a pumpkin dessert that was pretty good: 1/2 of a 15 oz can of pumpkin, 1 pk. fat free sugar free pudding mix, 4 oz fat free cream cheese, 1 scoop protein powder, and 1/2 cup sim milk. It was good for satisfying my sweet tooth and had lots of protein.

    Sex???

One week postop it was a little painful around the port--it sounds like that won't be long-term according to these folks!
  9. Cacique (part of Lane Bryant) is my favorite place for bras! They have bras of all types in bigger sizes and a lot of times they are buy 1 get one half off or buy 2 get 2 free!

    Post-Op Diet

Also, the surgical method used has changed. Now many surgeons take a few extra steps to prevent band slipage. I've been on pureed foods since 1 week post-op and I have had NO problem tollerating anything. I see my dietitian Friday (2 weeks postop) and I've been told that if you are doing well on pureeds she lets you move on to soft foods after 2 weeks.

    protien tolerance

I'm a week and a half postop and I'm also having trouble with my protein shakes but its not the protein its the milk. Apparently lactose intollerence is very common after abdominal surgery. I switched to a lactose free, fat free milk (or light soy milk--whichever is on sale) and my Unjury mixes great and I tollerate it MUCH better. I had tons of gas pain and belching with skim milk. Yogurt and cheese have less lactose than milk-so thankfully they shouldn't bother me too much!
  13. I did a 1 mile walk for charity the day after surgery and I was fine! You will have some gas and may belch, so if that would embarrass you, you may want to stay in!
  14. I'm one week post op so I am on pureed foods. I have having a lot of trouble eating and drinking slowly. My dietitian says that we should be sipping 4 oz over 30 minutes and 1/4 cup of pureed foods over 30 minutes. I have baby spoons, but I still can't eat/drink THAT slow. Any suggestions?
  15. I'm an ICU nurse, but enjoying my time off right now!

I'm still on pureeds, so I've been having baby food, pureed soups, I pureed some jamalaya the other day and it was nice to have some flavor (even though Im really not supposed to have spicey food yet!). I made some spinach and herb dip from tastefully simple with plan greek yogurt instead of mayo and I plan on mixing it with some canned chicken in my magic bullet. I've also had smooth peanut butter, yogert, cream of wheat, and my fave is a high protein pumpkin dessert I made with 15 oz pumpkin, 2 pks sugar free fat free vanilla pudding mix, 2 scoops protein powder, 1 cup skim milk, and 8 oz fat free cream cheese. I should have halved it b/c it made 4 cups and I can only eat 1/4 cup at a time! I figured that 1/2 cup has about 100 cal, almost no fat, and like 11 grams of protein.

  16. My job is pretty physical (non to mention I don't want to be exposed to H1N1) so I'm taking 3 full weeks off, then I'm going to go back and work a 4 hour shift and 2 8 hour shifts on the 4th week postop. I'll be working my normal hours by my 5th week postop.

Protein bullet - where to buy

Do you mean the bullet mixers to make protein shakes in? If so, I have the Magic Bullet and I love it. Its great for protein shakes and for pureeing food once you are on mushies. I priced it a few places before I got it, the best price I found was at Bed Bath and Beyond. Plus, they have coupons out a lot for 20% off any item. So I got mine for around $40.

    Gas Pain

Try squatting down with so your knees are close to your chest, I foind it helps to push some of the gas out. Also, when I belched, I would kind of push on the upper part of my abdomen to help get more air out. Gas X helps a lot too, I used the chewable ones.
  19. Congrats! This surgery wasn't nearly as bad as I expected! The hardest part for me is eating and drinking SLOWLY. I'm on pureed foods now, so its nice to have a little more variety. The Florence Mall is fairly nice, not the best in the area but not bad either, and they still have the Florence Y'all Tower!!!

  20. I'm one week post op (doing great!) and I'm on pureed foods. I have a Tastefully Simple Party tonight and a birthday party and Halloween party tomorrow night--guess I better bring some protein shakes!!!

    Is anyone else.....?

I tend to weight myself daily, but I also keep in mind that a lot of things in your body are constantly changing and your weight normally fluctuates. I never get bummed with the results. But, its very encouraging to see the numbers trending down! I need that encouragement to keep me going when things are hard!
  22. A gram of carbs has 4 calories, so 130 grams a day of carbs is 520 calories. A gram of Protein is also 4 calories, so 70 grams of protein a day (which is an average recommendaion) would be 280 calories. That makes 800 calories a day, plus however much fat you consume. A gram of fat has 9 calories, so if you eat 10 grams of fat a day, that is an extra 90 calories, 20 grams is an extra 180 calories. Whatever is working for each person is great--this is some good info to keep in mind when you aren't achieving the weight loss you want!
  23. Does anyone have this? Are the recipes good/simple?

    Dr. Charging a program fee

My surgeon required a program fee before surgery. It was $500 total, and I had to pay half after my consult and before I moved on to my other appointments. The other half was due after I had insurance approval and before they would book my surgery. Also, since I had a 3 month medically managed weight loss program, I had to pay $75 before I started that. All of these fees cover things that insurance doesn't cover, such as appts with the dietitican, exercise physiologist, and mental health worker. I didn't mind paying the fee, it was comforting for me to know that the program is so holistic. Obesity is not just an eatting problem, and to really have successuful long term weight loss, you have to be able to attack it from all aspects!
