    Lower BMI Bandsters!

I started with a bmi of 35. My first 20 pounds came off easily in the first two months. I have since had to work for every pound!! Ive had one fill and could tell a slight difference. I get food stuck if I eat too fast. I am not going to get another fill unless I slow down- since I HATE that golf ball feel and seem to visit it weekly. I have 40-50 or so pounds to loose. My surgeon said IT DOES take the lower BMI pt the longer time to loose and not to expect it to fall off. 1-2 pounds a week and at the end of 2 years I will have most of it off. Im just thrilled so far and am SOOOO pleased that I have been able to not gain thru the holidays and actually loose even though it is S L O W!!! <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    3 days post-op & questions!

Heaves can increase risk of slippage. I went home the same day- I had very little pain- I did great on tylenol rapid melts. I was hungry the first week and too afraid to push to hard. Clear liquid was the hardest for me- the full liquid was much easier!! Since you started out heaving (my opinion here) you need to be very careful and do your liquids for the entire time. Your band will need extra time and care to settle. What ever it takes try not to heave or vomit!!! Get zofran or phenergan if you need it. Welcome to band land!!

    Why not admit to surgery...

AMEN!! Im am thrilled Ive kept it to myself. I tell the truth if someone specifically asks did you have surgery or lapband. Otherwise its really none of their business. No one at my place of employment has noticed, only one of my friends has asked- she was curious, everyone else is on a need to know basis. I have no one to answer to other than the surgeon. I dont have extra help watching me and nagging me. IF I were to do it again- I would be even MORE careful not to tell. It would be me and my husband- no one else.

Reading the post have freaked me out ..help

Mine is NOT a choking feeling it is a golf ball in the center of my chest and it is USUALLY 3-4 bites after I start eating IF I have FAILED to follow the rules of eat S L O W, take TINY bites!! It is self induced- and quite frankly it takes the joy out of eating- so that helps in the whole picture. When I follow the rules I HAVE NO PROBLEMS!!! Dont panic, you will figure it out. It sounds like you need to screen what you read. The worst of everthing has to be included for the incredibly sue happy society we live in!

    Eating in a Restaurant

I just order off the regular menu. I had the band for me- the resturants are in the busines of selling huge portions. So I just look at it as another meal I dont have to fix. I take whats left home for lunch the next day or so. If I go with someone who wants to split a plate I do that otherwise I never attempt to order off the smaller menu. The child and senior plate is still too big and not enough to bother with the left overs!! Go for the healthier main menu items and enjoy whats left! Good Luck

    Someone Noticed!!!!

YEAH!!!! It feels great!! Enjoy it!!! Savor every second!! I think that even if they dont say anything they still notice they just are not going to praise for weight loss- its a weird girl thing in my office. It would KILL them to say wow your losing weight!! The only one who has said anything is the only male who works at my office!!

    Any Regrets

NOT A SINGLE ONE!!! Would do it again tomorrow!! Will take my band to my grave after I use it for the next 45 years!!! Sitting in the surgeons office waiting for a fill I met 10 patients who had their bands all for more than 4 years!! They were all thrilled. I was the baby bandster and the virgin for a fill. I feel very fortunate to have been able to talk to those individuals for the hour we all waited together. I am not considering that I could have complications- I know that exists as a possiblilty, Im not stupid however the power of positive thinking will prevail!! Dont dwell on the negative. Do it for the positive, move on and take each day as it comes. The incidence of complications is less than 4%- except on this board where it will be higher because those people have sought out info. NONE of the individuals I spoke with were aware of this board!

    love it or leave it?

love It!!! Never Want To Be Without It!!

    Having my band removed

If you leave it in and dont get a fill then you can live with it for a few months/years to decide if you wish to have fills or live with it unfilled. My band unfilled is like I never had one!! PLEASE STOP and reconsider the removal so soon. Live with it unfilled and then later when you are thrilled its still there and you are ready to use it as it is intended- (counseling behind you and with each step forward you take) you can move forward!! I would seek counseling ASAP!! Your surgeon can get you in touch with someone- if you need help this board is GREAT!! Good Luck- DONT make any hasty decisions!!

    What Foods Cant You Eat?

PORK, bread, pasta are out for me!! Too scared to try rice. Meats go better with sauce of some kind!!

    My First Fill

The expected is 1-2 # per week you've lost 26# in 5weeks- get ready for it to slow down. It will at some point. The first fill is exciting!! MIne was last week. The foods you can and cant eat will vary, you have thus far experienced the "normal". Good Luck!!

    Your favorite banded breakfast.....

Timing Breakfast is hard for me so I make it easy and Drink lo carb slimfast. I am tighter in the evenings so I have to be careful what I eat. Lunch is in front of an audience- so slow and easy at lunch. Try to stick with yogurt, cottage cheese, soup or soft non-hard protein that can get stuck!!

5 things that get you through a craving

I do the same as Wheetsin- I just have a little, realize it didnt taste as good as I had hoped and toss the rest!! I limit 2-4 bites. ( Not preband bites)
  22. ABSOLUTELY for life!!! Im not giving mine up!! Once the weight is off the habit isnt necessarily fixed. I want the back up!! Geezer Sue is correct- IF you choose to eat the crap on a daily basis then the band isnt going to help!!
  23. No- This is a off for good solution. You can go off the healthy eating but the band prevents you from gorging yourself. My weight is slow coming off but I know that If I make a bad choice- it is for that one meal and its not the entire 2#bag, or entire bag of chips or the entire pizza- that is now physically impossible!! Thanks to my band! It is a safety net that it wont come back. Losing the weight is NOT the entire problem, its sticking to it and not regaining!! We've all done it- this time I will be successful!!

Had a good week with the fill. No more golfball or PB. Am slowly getting the fact of MUST SLOW DOWN. Its worst when Im hungry and I start eating too fast. If I eat smaller meals 5 times, I dont have any trouble. Thanksgiving is this week; Im thankful for my band!!!! I love every thing about it!!
