I did my pre-op today. I also got "the works". They also did an H. Plyori breath test and a metabolic screen- some kind of machine that you lay and breathe for 10 minutes thru a hose that looks like a nebulizer but it measures your caloric burn. The worst part was swallowing while your nose was clamped! The september group is well on the way!!

This poem was given to us when we lost our 16 year old black lab baby. It came out of a bird dog journal. We framed it with his picture. I hope this will help you in your grieving process- it is soooo hard. May I Go? I didnt want to go at first, I fought with all my might But something seems to draw me now to a warm and loving light. I want to go! I really do! Its difficult to stay, But I will try as best I can to live just one more day. To give you time to care for me and share your love and fear. I know you're sad and are afraid because I see your tears. I'll not be far, I promise that and hope you'll always know That my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go. Thank you so for loving me, you know I loved you too. That's why it's hard to say Good-bye and end this life with you. So hold me now, just one more time, and let me hear you say, Because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.

I am so sorry for your loss!! People who do not have fur babies can not comprehend the impact that these loving babies have. May time heal your broken heart. With deepest empathy and sympathy M.Ellen

Found this on the internet by one of the Dallas Top Surgeons. He has the most experiece in RNY and his surgical wait list is 1yr. (for whatever that info is worth) apparently the article is scanned in. Good read. best part is: "Researchers and physicians are beginning to realize that obesity is a chronic condition, like hypertension or diabetes, influenced by genetic, metabolic, and environmental factors. The pathogenesis of morbid obesity involves more than just a lack of willpower or a sedentary lifestyle." cut and pasted from the article! http://lapbandbyjc.blogspot.com/2006/05/more-lap-band-info-from-dk.html More lap band info from DK Tuesday, May 02, 2006 Subject: More lap band info Surgical Clinics of North America Volume 85 • Number 4 • August 2005 Copyright © 2005 W. Put me down for 9/14! Im so excited, trying not to read the negatives!
-
Absoutely I am a lap band preemie and I would love to have the positive of the lap band shouted from the forum!! The Negatives are so strong and EVERYWHERE you look and from everyone you talk to or who knows your considering it!! I would like to know it was worth it and people would do it again. I was suprised that the survey went from 88% to 82%. I havent checked today to see if it is lower. Im sure 80% is high to exceptional. It just scares me I dont want to be the 20% who is having problems. I need this to work this is my last chance!!

My husband had the RNY, he was 411 and now 260, Yes he takes B12 and chewable flintstones. He can eat normal portions, does not have dumping or diarrhea, can eat sweets, does drink diet soda. He just doesnt absorb all the calories he eats= very tempting. Im going band since I dont qualify for RNY. Maybe my band will get him back on track and he can loose his last 30 pounds. He had every complication= open surgery that 6days later at home ruptured open and everything came out and had to have emergency surgery to put him back together. I packed that wound for 6 weeks!! He said then and now he would do it all over again even with the complications!! It is actually less after care than the band- which ever the insurance will pay for is the one I would do, and not look back and never second guess your decision!! Good Luck~~

Question... what exactly IS PB-ing????
gonnabethin replied to Andi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok Ive got the PBing what about liquids... your not suppose to drink with meals and I get the whole siphon, washing it thru defeating the band idea- what if youve got dry chicken in your mouth- can you wet it just enough to moisten it? Is it a hard transition to eat without drinking- unconciously I drink to wash down what Ive eaten!! Ive paid special attention lately in efforts to break this prior to surgery! -
Insurance Covers , But Employer Excludes?????????????
gonnabethin replied to krysmaslily's topic in Insurance & Financing
Its all about "carve outs" and cost. Too expensive to cover, however if Obesity ever gets classified as a disease like alcoholism or depression or heart disease then it will be covered- HOWEVER expect premiums to sky rocket. As long as a company can decide their exclusions they can control the costs. Once they are no longer able to do that it will be passed to the consumer!! Insurance is BIG business and the insurance companies are currently in the drivers seat!! -

The video Tim shared shows they can do a port revision as an office procedure under a local in that area. Some leave it flipped if they are using fluro I guess its surgeons choice. Good Luck!!

The smoothie factory sells their low carb protein mix its "Gladiator" and it comes in choc, vanilla & strawberry. The strawberry is Great!! Ive had choc, vanilla in the store but not at home. It contains per 2 scoops 190cal 1.5carbs and 45g Protein!! I put 2 scoops per 8oz skim milk and a few ice cubes. There are 20 servings per container and its about $40- so $2 per serving but who's counting at this point! The 45g Protein is why I got it!!

I think by reading the boards, some surgeons require pre-op liquids & others do not. So it can't be the be the end all that the 30# dictator feels it is. Thats why they use a liver spreader! I truly buy into the if your nourished you heal better, but thats why Im a pedi not a surgeon!
