I preband but have met with the nutritionist twice, and based on what her expectations are- the cherrios have to go. They need to be replaced with a Protein of some sort: drink, tuna, bar, The general rule from her was: Protein first, veggies, fruit, avoid processed carb b/c of increased appetite they cause. Yeah I know they are whole grain- but you have to get protein first. Aim for 60+gm protein per day. Im sure you will get help from the experienced banders but I was on and though I would share what Im being taught. Good Luck!!

Being a professional germ a phobe- Im not sure I can give up my straw. Going out and the thought of drinking off the rim of a glass makes me nauseated!! A few life changes at a time and the straw may have to be the last- or not at all if I doesnt cause abdominal distress. Why do all the sites say during the first 5 weeks only liquids that go thru a straw?- yeah I get it the consistency descriptor however I want my straw

RUN!!! your surgeon will have name of theraists that they work with- That may be a better avenue. In addition to at least one on staff

Cell phones, computers, email- nothing is private. If you dont want it publicized-- Dont say it!! Formatting a computer doesnt erase the information. It just may make it take 8 hours instead of 1-2 to get info. I guess if you really want to get rid of something you better get a really big magnet and get busy. :bored

No its normal. The nurse review doesnt have the final say the Medical review does. the Nurse review is just to be sure all the criteria is met. Like bmi calculated properly, co-morbidities etc. Either way you can appeal with a letter if it does not come out in your favor!

Has Anyone Had Any Weird Cravings Since Being Banded????
gonnabethin replied to ThunderThighs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Some people chew ice just to chew it- however it is also considered a form of pica. A craving of non-nutritional food sources. Maybe your just more thirsty and you miss the chewing. If all of your lab work (hgb, thyroid panel, Mg, and electrolyte panel) was normal I wouldnt worry about it. If you start salting your ice then I would worry. -
I think that is so great!! Nice that your sister is also your friend!!

Puberty, Daughters, and Eating Disorders

You may feel that you are not ready to tell them now but if they ask you cannot lie. They are embarking on years of future trust issues. When they are 16 and you ask where they have been and they lie- the response will be well you did when....... They are old enough to understand even if you ask them not to make it public. I have found that information is powerful- and they will feel better if you include them in information loop. You are entering years of teaching them trust and adult responsibility. That includes communication. You will want them to come to you for information regarding sex, drugs and boyfriends- by including them you show them trust and importance of familyhood. To them this is on the same scale. I think you will be suprised that they will be very proud of you for taking action. -

I wont lie, but Im not volunteering! My close friend considers it cheating, my mother says we dont have obesity in the family- she is 5'3' 220ish- the people I work with have only had negative imput. So I figure I gave my support systems the chance to be inolved- they all made their choice. So too will I make mine.. Have the lapband done and not disclose what they dont want to hear. My dh is 100% onboard. I have found a new support system who is always up, Telly by herself could carry me through this- she is a riot!! I have made contacts with support groups in my area and I fully understand what Im undertaking! This will cut my breast cancer risk, decreased my LDL, increase my HDL, decrease cardiovascular, and stroke risk- It is a win win!!
