wouldnt that be nice!!!

Glad things went well. NEVER admit to not staying on the bandwagon, everyone falters from time to time- even him!! Besides its not like you were eating 16oz ribeye and banana split every meal!! People perceive fat people as shoving food in, I think our bodies are just better at utilizing what we give them.

HELP!!!! I have lunch in one hour!!!!

They wont even notice- IF they do tell them the queesie stomach and thats why your only eating mashed potatoes. It ALWAYS smells better than it tastes!! Dont risk your hard earned surgery!!! -
Be it caucasian, black- african american, hispanic, asian, middle eastern the race card is alive and well. Why be promoted because you are NOT caucasian if both are equally qualified- Thats racism. At a county hospital here if you are caucasian you will not be served if there are black folks in line. The black population is given priority by the black servers. So to mistakely assume that it is white (caucasian) against everyone else is a huge mistake!! I dont owe anyone anything. Unfortunately entitlement is the mentality and loudly verbalized opinion of the lower socio-economic class in this cities particular area. So is it class discrimination or racism? Unfortunately the racism toward caucasians is growing in our area as a knee jerk reaction to the whole race card. The politicians and press in our area are just as guilty. The FIRST Thing that they do if there is a shooting or incident is go find and air someone touting the race card or go ask the NAACP, or LULAC group what they think- WHO CARES what they think!!! A local University (UTA) has a hispanic professor who said the hispanic community needs to follow Hitlers lead and overtake the caucasians- He is still teaching and the university said his statement was said outside of the school and they have no recourse and their purpose is to provoke thought in an educational setting. So racism starts at all levels and has MANY faces!! I had a 4 year old tell me that the Brown lady needed a nap since she was fussy. She is not a racist she is noting an obvious difference from her since she has lighter skin and is asian. So I think it is there and will always be there like it or not!! How we choose to handle the situations makes the difference.

Discrimination Over Your Weight
gonnabethin replied to j_war06's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The best one Ive seen is the woman who wore a fat suit for several days and she was actually reduced to tears by how people treated her. The only positive is she got to take it off and return to skinny life. -
Pill swallowing and degree of restriction
gonnabethin replied to GettingHealthyAgain's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pills terrify me. Im 4 weeks out and I am still breaking, chewing, and opening capsules to prevent pain with meds. I take vytorin which is a small caplet but I break it. Prevacid is a capsule and I open it. I am going to have the next refill of prevacid done with the oral dissolve tabs. My surgeon put a mental fear that anything larger than an asprin has to be broken, opened or chewed. -
My Nightmare at the ER in Atlanta, GA.
gonnabethin replied to Iluvmyboys's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You need to give serious thought to reporting him- Dr. Patel to the medical board in GA. File a grievance or complaint with them so it is on record. That will be the only thing that gets his attention. At minimum consider filing the complaint/copying that complaint to the Physician relations and the Chief Medical officer at the hospital. Also file a complaint with your insurance company and they will address it also. Those are the only routes a patient has to combat such arrogant, personally biased, and hostile care!! -
I am only 1 month out and I would do it all over tomorrow!! I am acutely aware of the POTENTIAL complications. I feel the benefit for me outweighs those risks for complications right now.

If your surgeons PA is like the one in my surgeons office they do as many fills as the surgeon. PA's work under the MD's lisc. So the surgeons probably dont hire someone they dont trust since IT DIRECTLY comes back on and under their Medical lisc. If you dont trust the PA you need to sit and discuss views/opinions with that person and learn to trust if you will be relying on them to deliver information to you. Good Luck to you!

Your Favorite Protein Supplements, Please
gonnabethin replied to derbygirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
IVE TRIED THEM ALL!! I cant say I LOVE any of them. Currently the easiest to stomach after 3 weeks of constant liquid is the pre mixed Slim fast low carb chocolate, and the any whey powder protein. My tastes changed so much pre and post op. The ones I liked pre op I couldnt stomach post op. Maybe later I'll try them again! Dont buy too many of any kind pre-op, seeing as I have several post op that I gag to look at!! -
Mushies: tofu faux egg salad, true egg salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, cottage cheese, chili, sugar free pudding and protein powder, apple sauce with protein. Good Luck- anything I could put into the processor became mushie!!

I think the question is a great one!! Especially for those who are obese, no complications and less than 100# over ideal weight. I barely made BMI to get banded- even after gaining to make the minimum, had no ill effects from my 70# excess. SO No, if I didnt live in the upwardly mobile, thin obscessed society where everyone is 120#, plays tennis and scoffs at the slightly to obviously obese person, then No I would not have gone to the extremes that I went to. Maybe 10-15 years from now when I was having more trouble or put more weight on then It would have been a more logical step. I feel the pressure from society to be THIN - DAILY!!! Now having said that.... The reason I decided to be banded is that the complications from obesity run in my family. Have MO aunt on dialysis, mother with diabetes and father with cardiac complic and diabetes. So for those reasons Im thrilled I decided to get healthier and get banded. Even though Im only 4 weeks into the journey- Id do it all over again!!!

Ok for the books: Monday 10/9 I weigh 194 Down 2# this week!! When do people notice weight loss? Im down 26# and NO ONE has said a word. I figure they are just jealous. I find it hard to believe they havent noticed- possibly not, though. Well if it is another 25# by christmas then they better notice Or I will show them!!:clap2:

Today was my band day!! Surgery and post op went very well. Had 3 IV attempts prior to the nurses deciding a smaller cath (20g instead of 18g) was better. I look incredibly beat up. Had that ouchie shot (lovanox) in the flank for thrombis protection. Had surgery at 0930, in room by 1100, and walked the hall by 1215!! Was able to get swallow study with THAT ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GASTROGAFFIN done about 1430. was discharged about 1630 home by 1700.!! No real pain-but VERY sore on left side. One HUGE episode of nausea to the 'oh shit please dont vomit 'stage- laid down, wash cloth, fan and less clothes and it passed. Took 4mg of zofran and will take it again in am for prevention!! I really feel like I sat too long (visiting with friend who brought dinner for dh and broth for me). Although it may have been the liquid tylenol with 1oz water chaser. THICK stuff!! Gonna get fast melts tomorrow!! Have, but did not fill rx-i dont do well with nasty liquid. Got a 9.5cm, 4cc Inamed band. REALLY like Dr. Hamn- he was wonderful today pre-op!! He was friendly, funny and interactive!! That makes 3 times I saw him pre-op- kutia never saw Dr.J pre or post!!! I feel very fortunate!!! I now can get healthier, thinner and move on without the daily obsession of weight loss and doing more about it!!:clap2:

So what is the challenge? For the record Im 196 and want to be 170 but 180 is more realistic by Christmas. count me in!

SHARE... what you've learned after Banding
gonnabethin replied to NewSho's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That the resources on this board cannot be matched anywhere else including the surgeons office!! I do follow their advice and validate what Ive learned here. That I have a long way to go in the process of learning to live with my band and with the aid of my support here I can do it! Im not alone. -
Anyone with imput? The bariatric office nurse told me I have this feeling because Im drinking too fast- since Im still on liquids and super mushie mushies. Told me to use gas x and it should improve.
-
Called Terry at the office and she told me the pain is from drinking too fast or if it gets severe (like sat pm) its my gall bladder. She said not a slip since that requires vomiting. I am eating gas x, rolaids.
