My name is Rachel and I am 25 years old.  As a little girl, I was also small.  I didn't have a weight problem until about 5th or 6th grade.  I wasn't that much overweight during those years, maybe 5-8 pounds, but the doctor considered that too much for a little girl.  That's when I started going on diets.  As years went on, I would gain a little bit more weight every year, but i would always go on and off diets.  I would lose the weight but just gain it back again.  Going into high school, I was probably about 25 pounds overweight, which obviously made me insecure, especially during those high school years.  After high school is when I really got to where I am now.  My highest weight was 232 lbs which was when I was about 19 or 20.  When I was 20, I started LPN school and I went on a strict diet.  The combination of the stress of school and the healthy eating got me to lose 60 pounds.  I was so happy and loved myself.  After I graduated and moved out of my mom's house I slowly started gaining the weight back.  Now here I am, 25 years old and weighing 220 lbs.  I recently starting nursing school again to be an RN and I just cannot handle this battle anymore.  I feel so insecure, depressed , and defeated.  I recently got engaged but I feel like I can't even be excited about it because I hate the way I look.  About 2-3 months ago I started looking into the lapband procedure and finally went for a consult in the beginning of september 2009.  So now, here I am with my surgery date of December 22, 2009, looking foward to a new life and a new future of happiness.  I know the road ahead will not be easy, but I am ready to take the challenge and make my life my own and not be a slave to my weight.
