First Day of Pre-Op Diet
alicia3138 replied to alicia3138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today was my first and only final for the semester. Thank goodness! I don't know how I'd cope taking finals on this diet! Good luck to you too! -
So today is the first day of my pre-op diet. I'm allowed 3 protein shakes/bars a day as well as 4 oz of lean meat, all the veggies I want, and 1 serving of starch. Unfortunately I've been so busy studying for finals I haven't had time to go out and buy veggies and chicken. Hopefully after my final tonight I'll have time to hit up the grocery store to grab some stuff. Can't believe it's only 2 weeks until my surgery!! Good luck to everyone else starting today!

Chobani yogurt has 15g of protein in it. You can still have protein shakes to get your protein. Add some peanut butter to it.

Baby, it's cold outside (singing)...

Haha actually, I once wrote a paper on bulimia/anorexia and apparently what they do is take really cold showers to help burn calories. Interesting... -
Need ideas on food, etc. What are you eating?
alicia3138 replied to SwanGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, the carb thing makes sense. I was thinking the more-calories-in thing. And yes, you will lose restriction probably before you get a fill and will be able to eat normally. Your user name looks familiar- are you the one who was replying on the post about the chic on medicaid wanting to gain wait to get the surgery? Awesome... -
Check out this website!!!

They're only high in calories if you buy the ones that are high in calories.... -

Well, I know that in the beginning you should be focusing on healing your stomach, not losing weight. In fact, once you go from liquids/mushies to regular food, you are definitely going to gain weight. Right now your concern should be getting in calories and healing your stomach. Once you are eating regular foods and can do some regular exercise, that's when you should be concerned about weight loss. -
New Whey Liquid Protein Shots!

Are you talking about the bullets? My nutritionist said they're a no no. I don't remember why but she gave me a flyer with all kinds of stuff from bariatriceating.com and circled the bullet and put an X through it. hahah. -
Should we get our hopes up???
alicia3138 replied to ready4nume's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd be cautious. Insurance companies can be weird and even though you qualify, you may get denied. Doesn't mean you can't appeal and then get approved, just know that it's a possibility. -
Hey good luck! I actually start my pre-op diet on the day of my first and only final - I'm hoping I won't be starving! I can actually have some food so I'm thinking I'll have that meal during the day before the final instead of for dinner. Good luck!!

Post op liquid diet Starving! Help!
alicia3138 replied to NoName-AZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find it crazy that people are on clear liquids for weeks after surgery. I really find it unnecessary. I'll be leaving the hospital at stage 3 - full liquids. If you can have a clear liquid why can't you have a full liquid? It's still liquid! -
Surgery without general anesthesia?
alicia3138 replied to Yvette1026's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, women get C-sections and they're awake, and I think completely cutting across your abdomen and yanking that bugger out is much worse than a few incisions. =) -
Help! I effed up and I'm in pain!

It's impossible for there to be digestive juices in the pouch. How would it stay in there? -

Company asked to Reschedule Surgery so it's more convenient for them

There is work and there is life. Life ALWAYS comes first. Unless by being gone from a job someone will die, it is NOT that important. I never let work dictate my life for me. I come first. -
No Birth Controll 90 days before and after Surgery ... PANICK BUTTON
alicia3138 replied to wickedredhead09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to stop 2 months before and 2 months after. It increases the risk of blood clots, which is the main cause of death in this type of surgery. This is something I wouldn't mess with. I'd rather be an emotional wreck than get a blood clot and die. -
Who did you tell? Everyone?
alicia3138 replied to jvw2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At first only my mother and brother knew. I decided to tell a few friends. One was extremely supportive, another was pretty ok, one other friend was telling me how she wished she could get it (she's like a size 4), and another "friend" said "lazy...have you been going to the gym?". needless to say i won't be talking to her much anymore. basically, i wish i hadn't told any of my friends. not really worth it, although i supposed you figure out who your real friends are. -
Surprise! I'm skinny and had lap band surgery.... 6 months ago
alicia3138 replied to AlienBandit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My immediate family knows, but I told 4 friends. 2 of them could not understand and i got some negative comments from one of them. So I won't be telling anyone else. If someone hasn't had weight problems their whole life, they won't understand. So I'm not telling anyone else. -
Mandatory to loose weight prior to surgery?
alicia3138 replied to Northern Mist's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program requires us to lose 10 lbs to shrink the liver, and puts everyone on a 2-week pre-op diet consisting of 3 replacement meal shakes/bars and a small meal of lean meat and veggies. -
my primary doctor said this ...
alicia3138 replied to fatgirlnomore7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to agree with everyone else. I am depressed and have anxiety and my psych eval was only 15 min. They just want to make sure you're not a harm to yourself or others and you're able to make decisions. Plus, I'm sure there are a number of depressed overweight people, and if they said no to them all, there wouldn't be a lot of WLS candidates! -
So besides my mother and brother, I told a few of friends about the surgery. One friend was really great and supportive. Another told me about how she wished she could have the surgery (she's like a size 6 and clearly has no idea what goes into the surgery and how lucky she is NOT to need it). Another friend said to me, "lazy...have you been going to the gym?". oh yes, that's what she said to me. that is the last person i tell!

How soon did you return to work?
alicia3138 replied to 1SkinnyChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I plan on taking 6 weeks. -
I decided to tell a few friends. One was very supportive. Another one told me she wished she could get it (she's probably a size six), another friend said "lazy...have you been going to the gym?" they're all thin, and don't have weight problems. i won't be telling anyone else!

I bet if you said something about her being Jamaican she would have run straight to the principal. Tell them to cut the crap or you file a report. -
Surgery date is 12/28 for me! Woo!
